I couldn’t find the Feller video on You Tube, but it could be there, searching that place is hit and miss sometimes. I did find a Walter Johnson pitching video…he threw sidearm from a double windup and his arm looked like a big whip. He must have been terrifying for right handed batters. If I had a time machine, I would spend all of my time going back to watch old time baseball games and players like Johnson, Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb, Shoeless Joe, etc. We’ll never know if they could compete today and at what level.
August 2nd, 20125:20 pm
Bob Feller before radar guns.
You couldn’t pay me enough to take Goldschmidt over Freeman moving forward. I know it’s just this year though.
August 2nd, 20125:22 pm
Bob Feller firstname.lastname@example.org on an army ordinance speed measuring device.
They’re agreement with MLB is up. They can spend whatever they wish next year.
What was teh agreement again? Had to keep it above 85 million?

That would be way cool….and you could grab one of them sports alminacs and get rich too.
scoots – did you see my post earlier about Heyward swining and missing at balls within the strikezone a bit more this year? Could just be me though….seems like it’s happening more.
August 2nd, 20125:24 pm
If you could only have one player,…
My jury is still out on this. I’m waiting for a full season.
As a note, personally I don’t take much pleasure in watching the greatest ball player ever sit on the DL frequently when he’s young. I loved watching Chipper, Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz and so forth because in their 20’s they played every day. And they played very, very well. And that sentiment is spoke from a fan/spectator of the game. I like watching guys play the game every day. I grant that there are some players who can play so well, that even when they miss half the season, they produce more than other good players. I just don’t take pleasure in waiting around to see which half of the season they’ll play.
Had to keep it above 85 million?
Something like that.
I bet it was scarier for hitters not knowing how hard he threw, LOL. Verlander might sling it at 97, but you can see the radar gun reading on the Jumbotron, and know kinda how much you have to gear up. Before the gun, not so much. Other than, “I gotta start swinging yesterday.”
Glad to see that Prado is getting a night off. It was difficult watching him play last night. Probably the worst he’s played all year in every aspect. But as I said last night, he’s entitled to have that kind of game every now and then. Hope we get back to winning tonight.
August 2nd, 20125:27 pm
I wonder if maybe Gattis gets a resonable shot to make the team out of spring training next year. Could be a huge addition if Prado moves to third.
August 2nd, 20125:28 pm
I’m waiting for a full season.
Fair enough. Let’s hope they both have great August and Septembers to make your decision a little tougher.
August 2nd, 2012
His wind-up and delivery is scary enough in the video,i couldn’t imagine standing in the batters box against him.
August 2nd, 20125:31 pm
Glad to see that Prado is getting a night off. It was difficult watching him play last night.
He hasn’t been injured this year, but I do wonder if he can make it through a full season without hitting the disabled list for some reason. I think some were throwing about 12 million a year over five years for Prado, and I thought that was absurd. He’s a good player – and I still want to extend him at seasons end – but for the three years, 27 million range on top of around 7 million he’ll get in his third year arb. so the total value is around 34 million. That’s at least what I’m hoping for.
August 2nd, 20125:32 pm
Legend has it that an umpire once called a strike on a hitter with Feller on the mound. The batter turned to the ump and said “It sounded a little high”.
David Wright at .334/.427/.557 for the season. Great player. Mets need to lock him up. Hot topic this offseason here in the Northeast.
August 2nd, 20125:33 pm
What will 2013 look like? I believe pretty similar to this year. I really believe we resign bourn. Despite what it’ll cost he is a MUST. Unfortunately I think that will mean a fill in type at third or left with Prado at other. We will most likely move Hanson potentially looking to get that guy aka a sub left fielder or third baseman. Also he will be due a big raise this year. I think we bring back Sheets on a one or two year deal and re up Huddy with the last three spots being taken by a combo of Medlen, Minor, Delgado, Teheran. 2014 will be the year I think we make a splash with a big bat or ace pitcher with Hudson and Mac off the books. Your thoughts?
August 2nd, 20125:35 pm
I would be shocked if Huddy & Mac are off the books in 2013 and Bourn is.
August 2nd, 20125:36 pm
Ben Ingram @IngramRadio
From what I can tell, this is Martin Prado’s 1st off day since May 4th. In 77 straight games, he’s hit .306, scored 41 runs with just 33 K’s
August 2nd, 20125:37 pm
that lineup is a lot tougher against pitchers who are not pounding strikes all the time
August 2nd, 20125:44 pm
that is one thing that I miss about the old days, all the great wind ups.

Bruce Bochy is hilarious -
On whether he thought Sandoval’s risk would go up playing first base: “No, really, I didn’t. It’s usually where like in Little League, you put the fat guy over there and you didn’t worry about injuries. But he did a pretty good split. I guess anytime you make a change with a player, there’s a slight risk there.”
August 2nd, 20125:46 pm
Bravefaninok: Thanks, I could spend all day on You Tube looking at those old videos.
August 2nd, 20125:52 pm
nolie, that was funny. Seems like Clem Labine of the Dodgers had a long convoluted windup.
Talk about strict parenting.
New Zealand kayaker Mike Dawson made the semifinals of the kayak slalom at the Olympics despite being given a two-second penalty by his mother Kay — who is a judge at the games.
Dawson touched the fifth gate when going down the 18-gate Olympic course on Sunday, and his mother didn’t hesitate to penalize her son. It was one of two two-second penalties Dawson received, but he still advanced to the semifinals.
Dawson joked that he was tempted to get his coach to put in a protest.
That would have made dinner time at the Dawsons even more awkward. His coach is his father, Les.
Dawson says his mother’s penalty shows that she’s not biased. And he says, “I wouldn’t have it any other way.

We have the same problem,I watch the video I went to see then the links on the right take me to a bunch of stuff that looks even more interesting.
I think some were throwing about 12 million a year over five years for Prado, and I thought that was absurd. Efrim
I agree with you. That’s a lot of money to throw out to a young player like Prado, especially when he’s in his arb years. No point in rushing into anything yet.
August 2nd, 20125:59 pm
Buddy and Mac off the books AFTER next year. We aren’t giving eighteen mill a yr for a catcher in the NL who will be 31
Jerry – This is Prado’s final arb year – if signed to a four year deal, he’ll be signing away an arb year and three FA years. Now is definitely the time to sign him.
Huddy not buddy ha

It’s time to bring Lowe back and let JJ go! Lowe can help the bullpen depth.
August 2nd, 20126:10 pm
Not the TV network – the one offered on computer.
August 2nd, 20126:12 pm
without looking give me your best guess at how many wins the mariners have…
August 2nd, 20126:14 pm
It is pouring at the Ted.
August 2nd, 20126:16 pm
In his last start for the Indians, Lowe gave up 7 runs in 2.2 IP. Since the end of May he has fuve starts giving up 7 or more Earned Runs. No way we want him in the pen or the rotation.
August 2nd, 20126:17 pm
trade JJ for Lowe – we are already paying him $10 million for the season. Throw him in the bullpen unless he is a clubhouse distraction
Coach (2012 Fredi's Beisbol Fandango)
August 2nd, 20126:20 pm
Jack Wilson, thanks for playing Dude. Paul Janish is now our back up SS, and for reasons which will escape most. First of all, Janish can cover SS and 2nd base, even 3rd if need be. Wilson’s a SS. Janish can at least hit his weight, which we can’t say about Wilson.
Which leads me to the million dollar question…..why was Wilson our back up in the first place?
As for our offense. Feast or famine. Go deep or go home. When will Fredi G. and his players learn? They have played some really good fundamental baseball at times, moving runners over, stealing bases, drawing walks but it seems Fredi’s troops get enamored with the long ball a little too much.
Off the beaten path………WTF? The Pirates have a better record than our Braves, not to mention being better than twenty-five other teams. The last time the buco’s won, Bonds was a Pirate.
August 2nd, 20126:22 pm
The Pirates have not had a winning season since Sid Slid.
August 2nd, 20126:25 pm
Walter Johnson’s fastball was legendary. History has it that his heater topped out of one hundred miles an hour, combined with his side arm delivery it was unhittable.
Nothing wrong with small ball.

Why is it raining at Turner Field but not where I live? Boo…
August 2nd, 20126:29 pm
Yeah, I misread what I was looking at. I thought we had Prado for 2 more years of arbitration, but you are right. Next year is his last year. And I would be willing to bet that before his final arbitration hearing comes up next year, he will sign an extension. That is unless he just wants to explore the free agent market, and we have no idea what he’s thinking in that regard.
August 2nd, 20126:30 pm
Coach: Strongly disagree on Wilson, but agree on Walter Johnson and I already posted those facts, but that’s OK. I made peace with ACE and I’m trying with you, too. FWIW.
August 2nd, 20126:31 pm
I am east of Atlanta and it’s thundering and lightening to beat the band here. It’s always like this during the summer. So hot and muggy during the day and late in the afternoon, these cloudbursts pop up. And then, as soon as they come, they are gone.
August 2nd, 20126:33 pm
Derek Lowe is toast, JJ is injured. There’s a difference. Lowe is 39, JJ is 26. You do the math.
August 2nd, 20126:36 pm
Just looked at the radar and there are strong thunderstorm in Atlanta and just south of the city. The problem right now is that they don’t appear to be moving away because there is no wind movement.
We’re facing a guy we’ve never faced. BALLGAME!
August 2nd, 20126:37 pm
Well the reality is, Jack Wilson can’t hit the ball through the infield anymore, at all. As evidenced by his three extra base hits including last season. Janish already has three doubles in fifty-five at bats.
Small thunderstorm over Atlanta. If it’ll just move east just a little bit, that should be it for awhile.

August 2nd, 20126:40 pm
At any rate, I can’t wait until Simmons gets back.
around the MLB
August 2nd, 20126:45 pm
Hi Carroll or DOB ,,,any chance of the braves take D-Lowe ??? I mean the braves are paying 2/3 of his sallary,,so at least use him in our bullpen and not in other team…..
Ken, at least we can make peace over women. Don’t have to agree on everything with our braves except that we want to see another WS win. Those guys last night were way over the top. VJ took them out with the garbage.
August 2nd, 20126:47 pm
A name like “Coach” screams “LISTEN TO ME, I AM KNOWLEDGEABLE”.
Some team will pick up Lowe for bullpen help etc.
I think the return of Simmons will make a huge difference for the big push to the playoffs.
August 2nd, 20126:49 pm
@Lew: remember Lowe performance is better early in the season and in mid-august and september..
Take Lowe for our bullpen ,,they are paying 2/3 of his sallary!!! Play him here!!!
ACE: as T’Hawkin says, co-sign.
August 2nd, 20126:50 pm
Just keep running Uggla out there, to hell with a Division Championship/
August 2nd, 20126:51 pm
Who decided that bright green shirts would be a good idea for Jerome and Brian?
August 2nd, 20126:57 pm
Since May 26, Lowe is 2-9. He has given up 7, 8, or 9 runs in five of those starts – two of which he gave up either 7 or 8 ER in less than 3 IP.
His ERA is about where it was when everyone wanted him ridden out on a rail last year.
Are y’all masochists or just delusional for refusing to see that he’s done?
August 2nd, 20126:59 pm
Ralph – You did see that Prado – supposedly the one who would replace Uggla at2B is getting the night off? With Reed Johnson here, Prado will give Uggla a day off, too. Just not tonight.
August 2nd, 20127:00 pm
Who do y’all want to replace with Lowe, anyway?
August 2nd, 20127:01 pm
Why are we discussing Derek Lowe anyway?
August 2nd, 20127:02 pm
The 15 million that Lowe is making should make him feel better.
Apparently, some refuse to remember the travesty that was Derek Lowe last year when we couldn’t but a win. I’d be comfortable with Gearrin instead of going down that road.
August 2nd, 20127:04 pm
Lowe did eat up some innings and win some games but for the most part he pitched great in sept 2010 for 60 million.
Why are we discussing Derek Lowe anyway? — jeffrey d
Probably because they feel it’s too ridiculous to discuss McLouth.
August 2nd, 20127:06 pm
Here’s a topic of discussion – and I’m just throwing this out there – Craig Wilson.
August 2nd, 20127:07 pm
phillies lineup looks a little different
August 2nd, 20127:08 pm
If you had to pick your 1-3 starters in the playoffs what order would it be? Put aside the 1 game wc playoff game.
August 2nd, 20127:15 pm
It is good to be back in the top 25.
August 2nd, 20127:18 pm
ncscoots – 4:17 pm – “Being an addict is a little different from being an ***hole. From some reports, Yunel is not yet even a recovering ***hole.”
No more true words were ever written (sorry, but I just got online). As for Lowe, why are so many keystrokes still being wasted over him? There’s so much better stuff to move onto…

August 2nd, 20127:23 pm
Michael Bourn has really struggled lately. I hope he can avoid repeating his August/September of 2011 with the Braves.
August 2nd, 20127:24 pm
I loves me some trade deadline additions. Can’t wait for Maholm’s start…and I can’t wait for a certain side-armed Aussie reliever to return…
love the hit by Reed Johnson to right center then taking 3rd on the Heyward single (way to go J-Hey)
August 2nd, 20127:26 pm
Great half of the first for Minor and it’s looking good so far in the bottom.
Bring back Lowe?? Are ya’all insane??? He is AWFUL. Since mid may he has an era over 10!! Why the he!! would we want that, in the bullpen or anywhere near Atlanta. And apparently you don’t recall the rift between he and Wren. Never ever ever will it happen
