No way would I want to give up either Delgado and Teheran for Headley.

Some people are infatuated by the OBP and cost control with Headley, but face is he is a .260 something hitter with not alot of HRS and RBI’s

I’d rather have Marteen over Headley anyday. Maybe the Braves cannot afford to sign Bourn but they betterr lock it up with both Prado and Mc Cann.

Headley is an average player. You can find a .267 hitter with average power anyday.

tony austin, I can’t imagine Wren ever confirming the details of a trade that was never consummated.

Sort of team policy.

In 1993, when the Braves agreed to send Brian Hunter (and someone else) to Montreal for Dennis Martinez, only to have Martinez veto the trade, John Schuerholz refused comment because the trade didn’t go down.

•#Braves bullpen has pitched 19 innings in the past five games, giving up only one earned run (and one unearned) 14 hours ago

First of all, great job by the bullpen. Second, this is a misleading line. Medlen was pulled after 5IP with only 57 pitches being thrown. Last night was a rained shortened outing. Minor, Sheets, and Huddy have been getting the job done.

In fairness to Headley he is having bis best yr this yr and this time around he might get in the high teens in HRS and 80 RBI. This woould be the 1st yr he would be an .800 plus OPS guy.

If he can produce like that, he might be good for LF, but sill hesitate giving Delgado and Teheran for hm.

Might offer Gilmartin and another prospect. I don’t know what SD would want. They need alot.

This is a case where it’s really helpful to look at OPS+, which incorporates park factor. Headley’s .803 OPS would only be 4th among Braves’ regulars, but his 126 OPS+ would be second, better than Heyward and behind only Chipper.

Dan Uggla has as many RBIs in his last five games (5) as he did in his previous 38 games before that. I think he’ll be a big part of the Braves’ success in these last two months.

probably not a way you could be more shallow or short sighted about a player.

headly is a switch hitter who has shown very good OBP skills, and decent power numbers playing his home games in a cavernous stadium, where it is very difficult to hit homers. RBIs? his team stinks. its not his fault he hasnt knocked in 100.

Brian from SC

Martin Prado, Michael Bourn, and Jason Heyward are all on pace for at least 260 total bases this season.

The Royals had three outfielders reach that mark last year (Francoeur, Melky, Alex Gordon), but overall it’s not a very common feat. Only ten teams in the last 20 years have had three outfielders reach 260 total bases. One of them was the 2003 Braves (Sheffield, Jones, Jones).

Have you had a chance to see Alex Wood yet? Does he project to be a starter or reliever at the mlb level?

Mike Newman: I saw him last weekend actually. I liked the fastball quite a bit, but am not sure how the breaking stuff is going to play at the upper levels. He’s like the Anti-Sean Gilmartin.

With Hanson’s propensity in giving up the long-ball, Petco might just be the place for him.

Disgusted, did anyone say that they would do that?

I do think ideally the Braves should put Prado at third and find a leftfielder rather than spend resources on a thirdbaseman. I think Prado will have the more value at third than at other positions, going forward.

But Chase Headley is a very good player. Check out Headley’s career number away from Petco.

Also, batting average is secondary to getting on base and total bases. We are way past the point where batting average should be looked at over those other things. And a hitter’s RBI totals depend on all sorts of factors that don’t directly relate to whether he’s actually a good hitter. Again, we are way past the point where anyone should look at RBI on anything other than a team level. Which players rack up RBI for a team don’t tell you which players are the best hitters. Just like a pitcher who pitches 3 2/3 innings and allows no runs might not get a win while a pitcher that goes 3 innings and allows a run in the same game gets the win. You can’t just look at stats. You need to look at what the stats are measuring and what they mean.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Juan Francisco back as a left-handed pinch-hitting option and a backup at third and first.

I was at the G-Braves game that Gilmartin pitched. I actually bumped into Randall Delgado in the bathroom. He was in street clothes sitting behind home plate with another guy from the team. Must have been on pitch tracking duty.

Thought about saying something to him, but the always funny “what you got there” at the urinals probably would have been a little awkward.

I didn’t think Gilmartin was throwing particularly hard. But he was mixing it up pretty well and only gave up a few solid hits. Made a couple of bad pitches with runners on, otherwise, he looked pretty good for his first AAA start.

Baseball America Prospect Not-so-Hot Sheet

Edward Salcedo, 3b, Braves: Salcedo was a league-average performer in the first half, batting .262/.306/.413 in the high Class A Carolina League, but the second half has not been kind to the 20-year-old. This week he struck out in more than half of his at-bats, including six straight. He mustered just three hits, though two were doubles, to sink his second half line to .224/.302/.353.
