In the old days we would have reruns of the Andy Griffith Show. How I miss Andy and Barney.
Or can Juan play left?
I doubt he could… not mobile enough.
Don’t you mean Willie McGee?
Them field crew dudes should be wearing them new fangled swimmin’ suits like the Olympics.
He just lets his hips fly open before anyhting else happens so he can attempt to pull every thrown ball. Bust him in so far he can’t hit it fair then then soft away – Geez he kills me.
July 31st, 20128:53 pm
Yeah those re-runs are much easier to watch for the hundreth time than the Justice interview.
July 31st, 20128:54 pm
Yeah, it’s mighty far from the dugout, too..
Joe in SoCal
Jerry..the one and only..ugliest dude to ever grace the diamond. ET McGee…a cardinal favorite.
So…ugh…does Meds get a CG notch if they call this thing?
July 31st, 20128:56 pm
Mark–I hear you about acting to pull. Even that hit he got yesterday was outside and he hit it to left. He’s a mess right now. But he is still walking…
Hugo Z Hackenbush
July 31st, 20128:57 pm
Gattis walks. OPS hits 1.000. Major league pitchers quiver with fear…
Wanting, not acting.
July 31st, 20128:58 pm
Joe–uglier than Kent Tekulve?
Woody…you were right the first time.. He certainly ACTS like he wants to pull it.
July 31st, 20128:59 pm
fairly sure Constanza is making nowhere near 400 thou in the minors
Some team took Tekulve’s chin instead of a player to be named later.
July 31st, 20129:00 pm
Woody..hands down..not even close. ET McGee. He had the same neck as the movie version. Incredible.
July 31st, 20129:02 pm
You people with no memory – Don Mossi…
July 31st, 20129:03 pm
You may be right but then the website with contract status would be wrong.
July 31st, 20129:05 pm
VJ..had to google Mossi…first thing I see is…Don Mossi Ugly..I swear.
I’m in and out, so pardon any repetition–
Rainout, and a 57 pitch complete game victory by Meds–also excellent. That would be a kick, wouldn’t it?
July 31st, 20129:06 pm
just “dropped in” here tonight.so maybe someone has already noticed this but……Gattis hit a two run homer tonight.
bring back blauser
don mossi was a pretty good pitcher for the tigers
he makes that when he is in the majors I know, but I don’t know if he has a major league contract or not. I’m pretty sure that when they signed him last year it was to a minor league contract, don’t remember reading of an upgrade but I might have missed it
perhaps things have changed from the old days. DOB might know
two early games of interest:
-Jered Weaver no-no/perfecto through 4
-A.J. Burnett no-no/perfecto through 3
would be awesome to have 2 in one day (so here’s my anti-jinx line)
Joe – I am not surprised…
Don’t know if you saw it, but Francisco has 7 HR in just 29 games, that’s an amazing ratio. No question if this kid gets a regular shot he will not be the best defender in the game but he sure will hit over 20 HR and drive a ton of runs. He has learned to hit the ball the other way even. At least he becomes an improved Adam Dunn, and look at what kind of money he got. I say, unless we get a right handed bat like Pence that fits us perfectly, give Juan a shot next year and if by mid season he has not produced then trade for a bat with all of the pitchers we’ll have with Beachy coming back around that time. But we need HR power, and he has that indeed.
July 31st, 20129:07 pm
try walt dropo for ugly or ted kluzewski
July 31st, 20129:08 pm
Dunn makes way fewer outs than Francisco, not gonna be any improvement there most likely.
July 31st, 2012
Yiu Braves fans are just plain ol numbtards
who is this idiot?
or Jeffrey d….
July 31st, 20129:10 pm
nellie fox was no beauty either but he could sure play a mean second base
Whistle just blew…time for me to slide down the brontosaurus neck and call it a day..good day folks..nice job Meds. 2.5 out and closin fast! Until next time.
J.R. Graham so thrilled that he wasn’t shipped off to Chicagoland that he promptly allows two runs in three innings…
at least he becomes an improved Adam Dunn
Juan would have to learn to take walks for that to happen.

Cliff Lee is dealing.
Phils are going to have a lot to say about this before it’s over. Dangerous team on any given night.
Neftali Feliz out for the rest of the season (Tommy John Surgery you read that here first

Radar show nasty thurdenstorm coming from the North of Atlanta.

nolie: Kevin McAlpin @KevinMcAlpin
And as soon as I said the rain was slowing down, it’s now pouring and a huge bolt of lightning just flashed across the sky
Jeff Schultz @JeffSchultzAJC
Rain had let up at Turner Field, tarp was squeeged and then … CRACK. Thunder. Skies opened again.
The rain let up, the cleared the tarp, and the rain started again…. so a no-go for now.
I’m ok if they call it a game

John Danks (Chic. W.Sox) out for the rest of the season (Shoulder surgery)
you read that here First
July 31st, 20129:20 pm
Nolie, respect your comments, but you would not even give the kid a shot, knowing that even without Chipper we can probably win the wild card if our pitching is stable? come on… We’ve won a ton of games this year with Constanza, Diaz and others in the lineup regularly.
July 31st, 20129:21 pm
Be good at this point. Could save the pen guys and the Marlins look like they could care less anyway.
July 31st, 20129:22 pm
i like that name mlb espn 2010
i only watch espn for games. only news important for them is from philly, boston, or new york. all other cities do not exist
July 31st, 20129:23 pm
The game can be called anytime now guys – let the pen rest. With Sheets pitching tomorrow, they’ll probably have to pick up 3 innings – 4 yesterday, and Durbin warmed up a couple of times – Gearin was warm today. A day off for the pen is going to pay off later.
I hope Gearrin doesn’t come in once delay is over.
July 31st, 20129:24 pm
Randall Delgado looked good tonight. 6 innings 5 hits 1 run 3 walks and 10 strikeouts
July 31st, 20129:25 pm
Look those thunderstrm explote near Sandy Spring and coming strait down to center to the city & Turner Field
Good for Randall he will be back.
July 31st, 20129:27 pm
not a shot as a starter. I want someone this winter that I can count on not hope they produce once in a while. Francisco may be a decent back up but is poor defensively and only plays third. low on versatility. . I want Prado at third and a left fielder who can hit. Johnson re-signed over Diaz, and Georgie gone anywhere. we all think differently , I have almost no tolerance for hitters with low OBPs
July 31st, 20129:30 pm
Not a HINSKI fan then I gather?
July 31st, 20129:33 pm
When do they pull the plug on this thing? I remember games delayed by weather here in RICHMOND that occasionally would end up tied after an 11:-00 p.m. re-start, and go 13-14 innings finishing at 3:30-4:00 A.M. Brutal!
not so much any more rich, but open minded IF he can pick it up, but if he falters in the second half yet again, I’d replace him if I could
July 31st, 20129:34 pm
official game and not a tie. I’m all for taking the win and going home
Hinske looks like he’s been bellying up to the buffet this year. I swear looks like he’s gained 20.
July 31st, 20129:36 pm
I imagine they will wait several hours if it looks like a window for play will open up
Long as we’re talking post season, what to do about a backup SS?
July 31st, 20129:37 pm
unless Rev does something to look a lot better in the field, I’m thinking it won’t be him
July 31st, 20129:38 pm
richbrave, what part of richmond do you live? my younger brother lives in chesterfield
while visions of Conrad dance in Wren’s head…..
July 31st, 20129:39 pm
Actually noles, we can’t root for the game to end now… we haven’t gotten to see our new guy yet
At least he’s getting to bond with them in the clubhouse right now though…
Think the guys will play pinochle in the clubhouse ?
July 31st, 20129:40 pm
I sure hope not rev, noles
eating chicken and drinking beer
Live a few miles from the stadium. Rain had slacked off again, but picked right back up. Don’t know that it’s worth waiting to start this one back up, but we’ll see.
Bob Wickmans navel lint
July 31st, 20129:41 pm
I won the black bean contest and E5 and Panda both passed out after I blew out the flame. I am pushing 390 lbs, so I can pick up some innings for the pen. Just pay me in Stroh’s Lite. Burp!
Potato salad, too. German.
That’s a 39 HR pace over a 162 game season for Francisco. But he has hit 8 HRs, not 7, so that would be a 44 HR pace over a full season. I’m assuming you are talking about 29 starts, not games. He has 135 ABs. A full season as a full time starter would be something like 600 ABs, so that translates into 36 HRs over a season.
If I was Wren, I would give this guy some attention, make sure he gets some coaching and encouragement. I admit he doesn’t inspire confidence with his goofy cap position, his lack of conditioning, etc., but we give our young pitchers time to mature, so why not Francisco?
July 31st, 20129:42 pm
Rain delay at a hour now.
July 31st, 20129:43 pm
Delgado will be back here soon, right?
German potato salad is one of my favorites
July 31st, 20129:44 pm
We weren’t patient with melky. He was 25. And dusty was none too patient with Juan either. He’s iffy…
I haven’t had much time to pour over the major league rosters, but who’s out there (attainable) that could be that lefty off the bench for us to replace Hinske? I love Hinske, but he is killing us w/ the bat. And his D is almost as bad as JF’s.
I could see both being jettisoned over the winter, if not this fall.
July 31st, 20129:45 pm
Do the braves have a strength and conditioning coach? if not why not?
Put a little wasabi in it for some kick, cab
July 31st, 20129:46 pm
Willie McGee may have been ugly, but he was a heck of a baseball player. I had him on my fantasy team for over 10 years and I won the championship 5 or 6 times. He was a winner.
I’m pretty sure Janish. He’s actually been an improvement over Wilson offensively. Not much difference in the avg or the power, but he’s taking walks and his OBP is more than 100 points higher. And he’s been better with the glove. Wilson probably gets DFA if he comes off the DL. And on the playoff roster, back-up SS is more about defense. If Simmons has to miss a full round, it would be interesting to see what the Braves do.
Didn’t the reds have any other players they didn’t want?
July 31st, 20129:47 pm
nolie, we’ve got more money to spend this winter, surely Frank can find a stud left fielder until Gattis gets here.
July 31st, 20129:48 pm
That sounds perfect! I love wasabi
July 31st, 20129:49 pm
Badlands you gotta live it everyday let the broken hearts stand as the price you gotta pay.
Simmons said gripping the bat will take longer after the cast comes off. He said his defense should be ready sooner.
Looking at the radar, this game will continue. I’m just hoping that we get a chance to see Johnson hit before the game ends.
Not a Francisco fan because of the Ks and not good defensively.
However, I have no reason to think that he would not produce better than Uggla(ZERO Confidence in him) so I’d move Prado to 2B(Have the best all around 2Bman in the league then) Flabby to 3B and have to find a LF thats a righty that can hit and a CF to replce Bourn.
Everywhere else is good.
Regarding Uggla – He is done guys! He’ll never have another year even as good as the ones in Miami. He is done. Argue, talk about walks, he’ll get hot…
Archive this and pull it out one day if he gets 2 hits in a game and I’ll admit I was wrong for a day but he will not string together productive games again.
July 31st, 20129:50 pm
Looking ahead (provided we hold on here),
7 game winning streak
5 games over .500 at home
15 games over .500 for the season
24-16 in the Division
Braves are getting better at just the right time. Play Marlins two more times, then get Houson (34 games under .500). Might sweep the homestand – wouldn’t that be something
What do we owe Janish after this season?
July 31st, 20129:51 pm
thome could be a good choice as left hander off bench
Depends on if we sign Bourn. If we do, we’re going to be fresh out of cash for much of anybody else this winter. Raises for quite a few players coming.
They need to concentrate on locking up Prado. Not sure if we will be able to afford O’Flaherty next year. If Venters was pitching like 2011, then we coulda dealt Eric O for a decent prospect or two.
July 31st, 20129:52 pm
looking at weather.com that rain cloud over Atlanta doesn’t look like it’s planning on moving anytime soon
Even Melky admitted he hadn’t really committed himself to the game. He might’ve been one of those guys that had to bounce around enough to realize he couldn’t just coast on his talent and be the kind of player he wanted to be. No guarantee it would’ve happened if we had kept running him out there.
July 31st, 20129:53 pm
We’ll be 9-3 since the come from behind game against the Nats
July 31st, 20129:54 pm
Janish is 1st year arb eligible after this year so technically we owe him nothing
Picture this: Mark wakes up in the middle of the night and yells: “Uggla is THRU!!!”
Then lays back down and continues to sleep.
I checked in on page 3 and Mark was talking about how Uggla sux. Then I fast forward to the current page and guess what I see…………
I’d take 9-3 the rest of the way – .750 ball? That’d definitely win the division, only 3.5 back now, 2.5 if things stay the way they are now (gNats down 6-0 in the 9th).
July 31st, 20129:55 pm
This rain delay has removed any remaining excuses and I am now forced to watch gymnastics with my wife.
I hate rain delays.
Agree, GT. sometimes a,guy has to make a choice.
Then there’s kemp. I wonder if he would have busted out under torre? I think mattingly has made a difference. Might see the same thing with Hanley Ramirez.
