The Cubs’ haul from the trades of Dempster, Paul Maholm, Reed Johnson and Geovany Soto over the past few days netted one major prospect in Arodys Vizcaino, who once healthy will be the best pitching prospect in their system, as well as a solid quantity of organizational prospect depth. – Keith Law

I’ve never seen so many people this excited over the aquistion of a #4 starter and a bench bat.
Keith Law is exactly right, the Braves are only just a little better.
It’s not like we landed any superstars here.

Because the depth they add was a dire need.
Sheets was a huge addition ,Bench bat that can play any OF position is a big pick up.A solid starter for the middle of the rotation…..Great job Frank!!!!

Wren put the GM speak on the trade but truth be told this is NOT the trade he or any of the Braves envisioned. Not even close. We settled for what we could get. Will it be enough? The next two months will tell. We gave up basically nothing despite what many on this blog suggest as the next coming of Cy Young. It was a great trade for Wren but not the #1 we need. Again, maybe it’s enough this year. It won’t be enough going forward.

Saw this from someone’s post earlier who dug it up. Thought it was worth repeating. Maholm is 5-0 against the NL EAST so far this year, but has not faced the Nationals yet. He allowed no HRs and only 3 runs in those 5 starts. However, for some reason he is 6-7 against the rest of the NL. Good thing is that the Braves have more games left against the NL East than vs the rest of the league.
