When packing his #Cubs locker, Reed Johnson realized he had the wrong blue. He grabbed his glove and left. He’s wearing Uggla’s shoes now.
The Cubs’ haul from the trades of Dempster, Paul Maholm, Reed Johnson and Geovany Soto over the past few days netted one major prospect in Arodys Vizcaino, who once healthy will be the best pitching prospect in their system, as well as a solid quantity of organizational prospect depth. – Keith Law
I’ve never seen so many people this excited over the aquistion of a #4 starter and a bench bat.
Keith Law is exactly right, the Braves are only just a little better.
It’s not like we landed any superstars here.
Because the depth they add was a dire need.
Sheets was a huge addition ,Bench bat that can play any OF position is a big pick up.A solid starter for the middle of the rotation…..Great job Frank!!!!
Lordy! you guys have a tortured existance, Chip Caray,Fredi Gonzalez,Joe Simpleton, Ron Gant speak clearly, and that Dipstick Jaroooome Jurrrrrrrenob.i.t.ch
Wren put the GM speak on the trade but truth be told this is NOT the trade he or any of the Braves envisioned. Not even close. We settled for what we could get. Will it be enough? The next two months will tell. We gave up basically nothing despite what many on this blog suggest as the next coming of Cy Young. It was a great trade for Wren but not the #1 we need. Again, maybe it’s enough this year. It won’t be enough going forward.
Dadgum, it might not be enough for the future, but that’s why Wren has many really good pitching prospects at his disposal for trade in the offseason. He can go out and get a top starter then.
nolie, hope you didn’t take me too seriously earlier. My apologies if my comments were out of place. I just can’t stand trading one of the Latin trio….
Saw this from someone’s post earlier who dug it up. Thought it was worth repeating. Maholm is 5-0 against the NL EAST so far this year, but has not faced the Nationals yet. He allowed no HRs and only 3 runs in those 5 starts. However, for some reason he is 6-7 against the rest of the NL. Good thing is that the Braves have more games left against the NL East than vs the rest of the league.
Keith Law is exactly right, the Braves are only just a little better.
It’s not like we landed any superstars here.
I think the best part of the trade is Maholm’s option for next year. Gives us depth and opportunity to trade Hanson if he has a solid six weeks to close the season……
I see that public school system in DC has paid dividends too.
True, but Natomaniax is getting PAID $5.25/hr for attending summer school – let’s hope it helps. He’s using the $ at his favorite internet cafe to TROLL on a baseball blog :maniac:

TheOnlyBravesFan, that’s probably true. Hell, his district can barely keep a team. Anyway, he could have gotten a DP, still, but it’s harder if the only force out was at first, lol.
