According to Cot’s, Constanza is signed for basically half a mil. And it doesn’t say anything about a minor league contract like it does about his contract last year, so I’m pretty sure he makes that regardless of where he’s playing.
They don’t have to make it up- it’s already an official game

Gearrin takes over for Braves to start the 6th inning after 1-hour, 53-min rain delay
July 31st, 201210:42 pm
Nervous about Gearrin.
The Dude Abides... Still
DOB… I will trade jobs with you any day you are ready to make the switch and I do quite well.
BESIDES, all those fans there paid good money to see a complete game, not just 5 innings. If some of you had been sitting there waiting for it to restart, you would be the first ones complaining if they called it. Be sensible, dadgumit!

Oahu Waimea is awesome, had some crazy surfer friends that paddled out during the winter surf there. And that was before jet skis towed you out past the break. I kept to the 5 ft and beaches, loved Barbers Point and Chun’s Reef. Looking forward to seeing Volcano Pk for the first time.
Thanks for the JJ Dolans tip. And I don’t mind if I have to set my alarm to catch a few early games either.
Don’t have to make it up. It’s official.
July 31st, 201210:44 pm
Great inning, Cory!!!
A lefty up for Marlins
Maybe Reed Johnson’s Braves Debut?
Rest easy BF… Rest Easy
Damn, Gearrin looked pretty damn good in the 6th.

Man alive grapes make my stomach turn. Problem is I can eat grapes by the pound.
Fine eating them. Much prefer drinking fermented ones.
DOB, been there man. No really… Three years… Tulsa World Sports Dept….
July 31st, 201210:46 pm
You’ll love Volcano, Chopp.
West Side, Ewa, prolly totally different that you remember. Terrible traffic.
Pastornicky PH? Why?

No, thanks. I love my job.
Besides, can you write game stories under extreme deadline? If so, where’d you learn to do that?
Do I hear violins playing in the background? Lots of out of work people right now would not be complaining if they had a job, period! Get yer whining, you’re getting paid for it. Beginning to sound like highly-overpaid spoiled rotten major league baseball players. Been around them too much I guess!
Who’s coming in next? I’m guessing the Durbinator? Eric O in the 8th and Kimbrel in the 9th?
Nice one, Rev.
Well I just ate a slice of crow pie there.
Wow – the Rev goes DEEEEEP – there’s a shock
The Rev has called down the brimstone
Pastornicky’s second homer, first career pinch-hit homer. And it was a shot.
July 31st, 201210:48 pm
Jerry- Yes, he did. Rev, that’ll preach!!!
Thats why BF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was wondering the samr thing though
pinch hitter extrodanair….Tyler Pastonicky!!!!!!!!
Unless we score another run or two……….
July 31st, 201210:49 pm
Now can I have those tickets, DOB?
In the years before blogging, I might’ve agreed with you. But now you have to deal with a bunch of snotty know-it-alls giving you crap about everything. Given, there are some writers that deserve it, but not DOB.

‘Bout time for you to hit the hay, my man. You’re losing it.
thanks for everything DOB – hope there is a nice, relaxing motorcycle ride or something in your near future.
Reminds me of a bad call night but back to back nights. Ouch
That crow is better with some Texas Pete hot sauce.
July 31st, 201210:50 pm
Announcer really kissing Pastornicky’s ass. Never do I ever wanna see him at short again. That homer isn’t gonna make me forget how shytty he is defensively. No siree Bob!
July 31st, 201210:51 pm
Don’t pay those azz holes any never mind!
Lee in S GA
this team is really starting to look sharp or maybe should I say sharper these days….i think the trade was great and don’t understand why some on here fell it was not…although those people r far and few between…Tyler really has helped the bench also…
July 31st, 201210:52 pm
thanks for everything DOB – hope there is a nice, relaxing motorcycle ride or something in your near future — brian
Thanks, man. Actually there was a nice ride home last night from ballpark at 2 a.m. Open highway, great night to ride. Rode to the ballpark each of the past three days before today, forecast was for rain today (sure glad I paid attention to that one).
If Pastornicky can hit decent, he’ll have a career as a utility guy. Especially if he can pinch hit and learn to play outfield.
Bourn single and now a dropped throw on would-be force … Marlins coming apart.
July 31st, 201210:53 pm
What’s your ride when you ain’t on the bike?
July 31st, 201210:54 pm
Long one here from Jason gets Jurrjens in the game maybe?
July 31st, 201210:55 pm
Heyward staying hot, RBI single for 6-1 lead.
By the way, The Rev is now 3-for-9 as a pinch-hitter.
Nice rope by Heyward!
Not sure a better throw would have gotten bourn.
I am a discipline Assistant Principal at a decent sized High School up here in NC…. So the games are always extreme and I am used to making deadlines. I feel your pain about getting out of routine.
Nice job JHey.
Tuffstuff won’t be invited to my tailgate party at the Ted (if I win the powerball).
July 31st, 201210:56 pm
Been back about 4 times since my military brat days – for a couple of class reunions, funerals and weddings. I can remember when the drive from Schofied to Hono was thru the cane and pineapple fields, nothing else. Traffic there now is as bad as ATL. It’s a crying shame what’s happened to those beautiful islands.
Woo hoo – our boys pick up right where we left off. We don’t mind no stinkin’ rain delay.
But – watch out, here we come in our rental car!
On the DP try, I mean
What’s your call on what happens to Jurrjens? I’m guessing he goes to Gwinnett when Maholm gets here.
July 31st, 201210:57 pm
I like the Rev and think he will be a solid super utility guy. Just needs some seasoning and confidence.
Of course, Simmons could be a franchise SS. Looking forward to his return
We score 2 more here and I’m with you there. JJ to save the pen.
I’d get Mac and bourn out also to give Ross and Johnson some time.
Know the game isn’t over but Marlins are uninspired to say the least.
The A Bomb
July 31st, 201210:58 pm
Really a shame Heyward is turning into what he should be.
Each day I see Efrim posting his latest numbers and it seems like it’s with great surprise.
I’m sure it echoes a ton of people around here who just can’t stand it that they can’t pull out the WAYWARD, HURTWARD, 4-3WARD lunacy.
Guy’s not even close to prime yet.
July 31st, 201210:59 pm
This ump is taking the bat outta the Braves’ hands…
Jerry … “No siree Bob!”
You talk alot.
Getting close to dinner time here on the north-left coast. Thank goodness for XM in the car.
DOB thanks for the Haggard tune. I bought this CD when it was released. Same time as my 1st divorce. Enjoyed my beer better listening to the Hag sing all about it.
July 31st, 201211:00 pm
Dan Uggla is truly useless right now… :/
I missed Pastornicky’s HR because the wife wants to watch the Russian women fail at gymnastics tonight.
We need at least one more HDTV in this house.
Uggla had one good at-bat, when he walked his first time up. The other 3 haven’t been so good though
July 31st, 201211:01 pm
Here’s a thought for some of you. The National’s brass says now that they will allow Strasburg to pitch into October. I see that as a big mistake and not because he isn’t that far removed from Tommy John. I don’t think he has ever pitched that far into a baseball schedule before and the fact that he is a power pitcher might just make him weaker and more hittable. Like to hear what nolie has to say about that.
Dan needs to sit for a couple of days. Get some work with Walker and Fletcher. He’s snake bit right now.
July 31st, 201211:02 pm
Hey, watch that Buddy. I nearly had a panic attack having someone agreee with me. Ease those on me in the future! :mrgreeen:
LAG. Get an iPad. Take the game into the bathroom if ya want.
He had a good swing at a 2-0 fastball that time. Just got under it.
Huh, Huh How about that DS
Speed never slumps, It’s unbelievable, stupid, embarrassing that a manager would not use Constanza. This team must be special to keep winning despite having an idiot for a manager. Speed off the bench is a great weapon in a one run game. Heyward is the type of runner that intimidates a pitcher and I think this has helped McCann. Constanza is cut from the same mold.

July 31st, 2012
I expected “Who’s Bob?”
That’s a hard one to call. I guess we will have to wait and see on Strasburg. When he is on, kid is dynamite!
July 31st, 201211:04 pm
someone goes beyond his normal job requirements, does a great job running one of the best baseball blogs, barely complains about all extra work put in and express a slight and very valid annoyance caused by circumstances and and anonymous interweb douches crap all over him. if someone is really ready to trade job, why don’t they give out their real name, job description and income? must be real friggin tough job to learn if a beat writer and blogger can just switch over and take it over.
Heyward looks like he is really having a good time playing right now!
However, I have no reason to think that he would not produce better than Uggla
OBP would not be close. In case you have already forgotten, the top 5 scoring teams in the NL are the top 5 OBP teams in the NL, nothing else correlates to runs scored like OBP
July 31st, 201211:05 pm
GT Alum – Nah, I didn’t spring for the DVR.
Woody Woodward – I live in Braves territory. They black out the game online.
July 31st, 201211:06 pm
Constanza cut from the same mold as Heyward you say? The only thing they have in common is that both are homo sapien.
July 31st, 201211:08 pm
Wow… what a play by Bourn!
Wow – beautiful catch Bourn!
I think cowdogit and Georgie are secret lovers
Not worth re-signing. Yuck.
Off subject: I’d sure love to see Buddy Carlyle come up when the rosters are expanded.
Bourn to run!
Bourn with yet another ESPN Play of the Day. Makes those look routine, like Andruw used to on all those diving catches he made coming in.
July 31st, 201211:09 pm
“Period, end of story.”
Technically, shouldn’t that be -30- ?
Appreciate all you do for us, DOB. Hope the AJC is compensating you commensurately.
July 31st, 201211:10 pm
DS1 – Constanza cut from the same mold as Heyward you say? The only thing they have in common is that both are homo sapien.
Well, they’re also both left-handed OF… but that’s where it ends.
July 31st, 201211:11 pm
I have nightmares that somebody is going to hire DOB out from under the AJC some day, and we will be stuck with a less than awesome beat writer.
July 31st, 201211:12 pm
Actually Constanza and Heyward could star in a remake of Twins.
Jerry … “I expected “Who’s Bob?”
I was a little off on the script. Also, I just like the little girl’s sarcasm. “That’s not working.”
July 31st, 201211:13 pm
Uh oh. Francisco lovers in 3, 2, 1……….
Juan is gonna be hitting 300 before long……..
Quote from Marlins announcers – “Juan Francisco can flat out hit.”
Capt. "Fly" Mudd
He has become a hitter with a golden gait
Can anybody see Francisco becoming the next Melky Cabrera and dedicating himself to getting in shape to be at his best?
Uggla needs to talk to Juan bout some hitting. Go the other way!
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
