What we need is the 2010 version of Brooks Conrad! Don’t use him in the field much, but bring him off the bench when you need a charge put into the baseball.

I don’t think our success as a franchise depends on Bourn. In fact, with current ownership and TV contract, our success might depend on NOT signing him. I would love to have him on next year’s team, but I’m open to personnel strategies that don’t involve him. We only have so much money. And will he play this well when it’s not a contract year?

Wayne, good points. My gut feeling is we won’t be able to sign Bourn and I’ve come to really like the dude, I hope he stays. And we certainly need to lock up Marteeen. I wish Bethancourt hit like Mac, it would make that decision a lot easier.

As much as I’d love to have Bourn next year, it’s the subsequent years that scares the heck out of me with him. He’s in the middle of a slow stretch right now, and he K’s a heckuva lot.
I wonder which current regular has the highest number of runners LOB? Seems like Bourn comes thru from time to time, but he also strands a LOT of runners.

I’m done even saying anyhting about him. Its too easy and too frustrating because we could win so much more if he were not in the lineup but I’ll wait on the few backers that keep defending him to flip over with the rest of those in the “reality” world. Every time he strand a runner in scoring position or K’s I’ll just let it go, sit back and read the others.

If we could get Sea Bass as a back-up for around 1M, I’d have no problem with that. He’ll give you as much offense as any other back-up SS out there, and he’d be a viable option to start if Simmons has to miss more games.

Woody – going to Big Isl, a few days on my mom’s isl. Kauai, then on to Hono to visit relatives. My Dad was stationed at Schofield, I went to 8 th gr and high school in Hono. My husband has only been thru on his trips out to the Marshall Isl. so I’m looking forward to being his tour guide!

We need a list of potential good gloved CF’ers that might be attainable. I’m thinking that if we get a good bat in ONE of the positions (CF or LF), then we could do with a lesser bat and a good glove in the other position.
Chase Headley comes to mind for LF. Hamilton, but I think he is out of our $$ range.
CF’ers: Chris Young, Michael Saunders, Denard Span, Colby Rasmus, BJ Upton, Peter Bourjos…..
Any others I’m not thinking of?

DS1 – Funny you mention soft drinks because during Lent last year my son quit drinking Sodas and i did that with him and we just decided to keep it going together. So, been a while for me too.
Bad thing is that some things just don’t taste good without sodas so I don’t like peanuts, peanut butter cheese crackers, value meals from anywhere…near like I used too.

Why not? The man was up waay late (probably til around 3 in the morning) trying to find out what was going on on the trade scene. Then he had to do that all morning/afternoon today. I’m not annoyed by his comment at all. Lighten up on DOB guys. He’s amazing.

Yes, chopp, Honolulu. When you get here, JJ Dolans downtown on bethel has MLB and great pizza. Lulu’s in Waikiki if you’re feeling touristy. They do a good breakfast on Sunday morning for those 730am starts. Good location at the corner of Kapahulu and Kalakaua.
Sounds like a great trip. Love Hilo and kAuai. Kona not so much, but waimea is cool.

I think Jason could play there, but the baseball minds that I respect like his arm for RF. Plus he’s comfortable there now. Don’t want to throw too many variables his way.
How about Hamilton in CF and Gattis in LF? Use RJohnson as your backup and call it good!
But I sure like Chase Headley. Offer them Hanson (and maybe a minor leaguer) and see if they bite.

I know Reed Johnson has played a decent amount of CF, but is his defense out there just not every day caliber? I know that offensively he might be a step down from Bourn, but if we improve at other spots, we might save money there.

Anyone who’d actually take umbrage to my booing of the tarp coming off hasn’t a clue.
A couple of us were here at the ballpark till almost 2 a.m. last night, back up and at it at 8 a.m. today with the trade deadline approach. I had a game story completed with a five-inning complete game for Medlen while ago, just in case game got banged because our desk would need the story right away if that happened.
So when the tarp was removed, that meant the game won’t make it in tomorrow’s paper, that story is now worthless and will be rewritten, and we’ll be here at the ballpark for another couple of hours instead of leaving here at, say, 10:30 after a nice rain-shortened Braves win.
And if you think ANY sportswriter would have been wishing for anything but a rainout in that situation, given the circumstances I just described, it’s because you have no earthly idea what you’re talking about. Period, end of story.
