What we need is the 2010 version of Brooks Conrad! Don’t use him in the field much, but bring him off the bench when you need a charge put into the baseball.
July 31st, 20129:57 pm
I don’t think our success as a franchise depends on Bourn. In fact, with current ownership and TV contract, our success might depend on NOT signing him. I would love to have him on next year’s team, but I’m open to personnel strategies that don’t involve him. We only have so much money. And will he play this well when it’s not a contract year?
July 31st, 20129:58 pm
If this game were to be called without play resuming, Medlen would be credited with the first “complete game” of his career
Wayne, I think Mark has me beat in regards to Uggla.
I know this will not be popular, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Sea Bass return in a backup role, if we could get a little salary relief from the brews.
We could have a Hampton-like contract right now–Uggla. I hope not, but we could.
July 31st, 20129:59 pm
Or is hae a free agent?
Old man, thanks. That is exactly what I mean. Nolie, like I said, if I could get a bat like Pence, I see Francisco developing somewhere else. But if We don’t get that kind of bat, i will like to give him a shot.
That’d be cool.

Wow. Uggla is batting .209. Simply unbelievable.
July 31st, 201210:01 pm
I have no problem with watching gymnastics, not this year. Especially since Gabby Douglas is a hometown hero.
Wayne, good points. My gut feeling is we won’t be able to sign Bourn and I’ve come to really like the dude, I hope he stays. And we certainly need to lock up Marteeen. I wish Bethancourt hit like Mac, it would make that decision a lot easier.
As much as I’d love to have Bourn next year, it’s the subsequent years that scares the heck out of me with him. He’s in the middle of a slow stretch right now, and he K’s a heckuva lot.
I wonder which current regular has the highest number of runners LOB? Seems like Bourn comes thru from time to time, but he also strands a LOT of runners.
Cubs have no hits through 6. AJ with 74 pitches though and they made him work a bit in the 6th …. AJ might not like it but they might have to go for the combined no hitter attempt if they keep it going

He does Strike out a lot, DS1. He sure scores a lot though.
I’m done even saying anyhting about him. Its too easy and too frustrating because we could win so much more if he were not in the lineup but I’ll wait on the few backers that keep defending him to flip over with the rest of those in the “reality” world. Every time he strand a runner in scoring position or K’s I’ll just let it go, sit back and read the others.
My last Uggla post unless he actually does something good! Feels good
Nat Lost 8-0…..
DS1, I think you’re confusing me with someone else. All I’ve done tonight is whinge about gymnastics.
(DAM, my brother!)
Strasburg & the Nats got smoked…
Strasburg: 4 IP, 8 H, 6 ER, 3K, 1BB, 2 HR allowed
July 31st, 201210:04 pm
My buddy tells me it’s still pouring at the ballyard
That’s something we can definitely agree on! Mark is actually interesting to post w/ when he gets off his one trick pony.
(Mark, you listening?)
Hugo Z Hackenbush
Gattis triples. OPS now 1.027. Left field at Turner beckons…
HA! That made my evening.
Woody Woodward -
We’re headed out your way on Thurs. for a couple of weeks. Will we be able to see any of the LA or San Diego games in the Islands? Having to watch the Marlins broadcast, then thinking about another 2 wk Braves drought has me jonesing already!!
July 31st, 201210:05 pm
Nats say they’ll let stras pitch into October, right? Hope it’s this stras.
July 31st, 201210:06 pm
If we could get Sea Bass as a back-up for around 1M, I’d have no problem with that. He’ll give you as much offense as any other back-up SS out there, and he’d be a viable option to start if Simmons has to miss more games.
Chopp–LA, yes, SD, no. Don’t ask why. It’s screwy. You staying in Waikiki?
July 31st, 201210:08 pm
How serious is gonzos injury?
July 31st, 201210:09 pm
Sorry about that, I think I was referring to somebody else talking about Bourn.
The jury’s still out buddy! It’s darned hard to drop a bad habit. I know, it is still hard for me to pass up a Diet Dr Pepper (I quit almost 11 months ago). But I’ll be pulling for ya!
I’m done with him.
July 31st, 201210:11 pm
Oh, and he has a $4M option that vests with 525 PAs this year, which isn’t gonna happen, so he’ll be a FA.

I wonder if any of our Braves are tweeting with the Netherlands Women’s Soccer club?
DS1–anyone still make original recipe DP? can still get original Coke via Mexico bottlers. Big difference.
The A Bomb
July 31st, 201210:13 pm
With the rain delay watching this Jeopardy Kids Week stuff.
Wow. Surprised Scott Boras hasn’t tried to get ahold of these 10-year-olds.
I’d like to see it happen, GT. we should have a car wash to help frankie defray the costs.
July 31st, 201210:14 pm
Take bets. I have my faults but not keeping my word isn’t one of them.
Pull the plug on this game, and let’s slumber off!
Rain’s stopped. We might get the rest of this thing in after all.
MLB keeps telling me to “stay tuned,” ABomb. So I am.
@Ace….Is the organist playing “Abraham, Marlin and John?” By Dion…. (Sanders??)
July 31st, 201210:15 pm
I saw that right after my post was entered…………
Don’t know. Though I’ve been off the stuff for 11 months, I still crave it from time to time when I’m out on the open road.

can still get original Coke via Mexico bottlers
It’s because they use cane sugar and not fructose in the manufacturing.
Someone told me a bottler in Texas still makes it. I’m not much for soda, but I do love the occasional DP.
July 31st, 201210:18 pm
Yeah, thats what I hear Gil. It’s a superior taste. ’specially w spiced rum.
Tarp’s coming off the field, folks. Boooo!
July 31st, 201210:19 pm
Arodys Vizcaino. “@clvolckmann: @keithlaw who was the highest rated prospect dealt at the deadline?”
Remember the old Morton Salt tarp?
I like it.
July 31st, 201210:20 pm
Did Braves spit in Keith Law’s oatmeal or something?
July 31st, 201210:21 pm
Agon is out for the year, guys. Torn knee ligament. Surgery.
Woody, that is what all Cokes use to taste like. Can get it on every island in the Caribbean
July 31st, 201210:22 pm
I can get it in the grocery store here, but it’s expensive. If you don’t drink it every day, it’s worth it.
Woody – going to Big Isl, a few days on my mom’s isl. Kauai, then on to Hono to visit relatives. My Dad was stationed at Schofield, I went to 8 th gr and high school in Hono. My husband has only been thru on his trips out to the Marshall Isl. so I’m looking forward to being his tour guide!
Do I remember you’re in Hono?
Law’s always been in love with Viz. Think I read somewhere he had him rated higher than Teheran. Obviously, the Braves’ FO disagrees.
July 31st, 201210:23 pm
restart at 10:40…or so we’ve been told
We need a list of potential good gloved CF’ers that might be attainable. I’m thinking that if we get a good bat in ONE of the positions (CF or LF), then we could do with a lesser bat and a good glove in the other position.
Chase Headley comes to mind for LF. Hamilton, but I think he is out of our $$ range.
CF’ers: Chris Young, Michael Saunders, Denard Span, Colby Rasmus, BJ Upton, Peter Bourjos…..
Any others I’m not thinking of?
Atlanta Braves @Braves
Estimated time for restart approximately 10:40 p.m.
Only problem with Brooks was he only did that 2 or 3 times a year. Very dramatic but very seldom
AJ Burnett has a No-No through 7.
July 31st, 201210:24 pm
Metro ATL T-Splost road tax looks like a big loser tonight. I’m glad I don’t have to drive inside the Perimeter everyday anymore.
Gil, when I first drank it a year or so ago, tasted like boyhood memories. Do happen to know when they made the switch to corn syrup?
DS1 – Funny you mention soft drinks because during Lent last year my son quit drinking Sodas and i did that with him and we just decided to keep it going together. So, been a while for me too.
Bad thing is that some things just don’t taste good without sodas so I don’t like peanuts, peanut butter cheese crackers, value meals from anywhere…near like I used too.
Sorry DOB. They should’ve called this by now.
Man alive grapes make my stomach turn. Problem is I can eat grapes by the pound.
July 31st, 201210:25 pm
A legitimate, dedicated sportswriter would not “boo” at the tarp coming off the field.
July 31st, 201210:26 pm
Yeah! As long as it’s in September and in a backup role next year
“Sorry DOB. They should’ve called this by now.”
Why? It’s only been a little over an hour. Going to be about a 90 min delay. I’ve seen some 3 and 4 hour delays before. This is very minimal.
July 31st, 201210:27 pm
Wayne: “Any others I’m not thinking of?”
Yeah, his name is Jason Hayward. Then, we just need 2 corner guys.
bring back blauser
juan pierre even though he has no arm
Finishing this game isn’t good for the Braves. Another 4 innings from the ‘pen. Would’ve been nice to be able to give the whole ‘pen a rest.
July 31st, 201210:28 pm
PowerBall is 158 million tomorrow night. Don’t normally play, but might be forced to spend a couple bucks this time. If I win, we’re having a party at the Ted and EVERYBODY’s invited, except Dentz!
Hell, we’ll even feed DOB and Carroll and that other dude that comes on from time to time!
July 31st, 201210:29 pm
So, Viz was the top prospect yet him+ Delgado and others wasn’t offered/enough to get Greinke…. methinks Law might be wrong there.
Cool BMac pic.
Why not? The man was up waay late (probably til around 3 in the morning) trying to find out what was going on on the trade scene. Then he had to do that all morning/afternoon today. I’m not annoyed by his comment at all. Lighten up on DOB guys. He’s amazing.
Wayne: meant to put a smiley face in my last post, sorry.
Yes, chopp, Honolulu. When you get here, JJ Dolans downtown on bethel has MLB and great pizza. Lulu’s in Waikiki if you’re feeling touristy. They do a good breakfast on Sunday morning for those 730am starts. Good location at the corner of Kapahulu and Kalakaua.
Sounds like a great trip. Love Hilo and kAuai. Kona not so much, but waimea is cool.
July 31st, 201210:32 pm
Tuff, I hope you’re being sarcastic to DOB. Please man. Dedication has got nothing to do with it. Weather is annoying and the man does this day after night after day after night …
And he is dedicated. He goes above and beyond what I imagine he really needs to do just for us pis* ant, whiny bloggers.
The Dude Abides... Still
Would you be surprised to see Johson after the delay? I wouldnt
I think Jason could play there, but the baseball minds that I respect like his arm for RF. Plus he’s comfortable there now. Don’t want to throw too many variables his way.
How about Hamilton in CF and Gattis in LF? Use RJohnson as your backup and call it good!
But I sure like Chase Headley. Offer them Hanson (and maybe a minor leaguer) and see if they bite.
Starting in 10 minutes
July 31st, 201210:34 pm
Trust me, DOB, was not looking at it from the Braves’ perspective, only from a personal viewpoint, AND he gets paid big bucks to do what would be fun for most people. No sympathy here for the DOB!
You folks in ATL doing the rain dance? If not, you should be.
July 31st, 201210:35 pm
Ready for the game to start. I am tired of watching Storage Wars and Hardcore Pawn. Lets go.
And that too GT Alum. It’s only, what, a 3 run lead? You just hope Gearrin or whoever they put out there doesn’t stink and force Fredi to bring the better RP. Marlins may be beat down, but Reyes, Lee and that CF they got out there can still put a whoopin on you at any time.
If Uggla struggles and hits .200 for his nightly 1 for 5 performance you guys keep ripping him and tetll us how he needs to be traded, released, DFAed, waived whateveer. But I don’t want to hear anything from you whey he goes 2 for 5 with a HR and 3 rbis.
DAN UGGLA CARRIED THIS TEAM DURING THE 33 GAME HITTING STREAK. i JUST WANT YOU WHINERS TO SIT ON THE GROUND AND PICK YOUR TOES OR SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE TO A TOE PICKER. I do not want you being in on cheering a man that stands for everything you reject in like. The inner drive a man like him has can not compute to a toe picker.
he makes that when he is in the majors I know, but I don’t know if he has a major league contract or not. I’m pretty sure that when they signed him last year it was to a minor league contract, don’t remember reading of an upgrade but I might have missed it
Who we talking about, Nolie?
Gotta forgive DOB for wanting this one done. Little Man Meds is a likable young man!
July 31st, 201210:36 pm
“CTB” you mean when CR is not “filling in” which is quite often actually. What is this, a “Pity Party” for a highly-paid AJC sportswriter? Somebody looking for free tickets or something?
Dang it! Burnett throwing great tonight and I chose not to start him… what was I thinking?!?
I know Reed Johnson has played a decent amount of CF, but is his defense out there just not every day caliber? I know that offensively he might be a step down from Bourn, but if we improve at other spots, we might save money there.
July 31st, 201210:37 pm
Mike Trout is a beast.
July 31st, 201210:38 pm
That shot of Beachy just now showed him looking a lot skinnier than I remember. Guess he can’t work out normal or something.
I support Evan Gattis as a write-in candidate for President.
nolie was referring to Constanza.
July 31st, 201210:39 pm
They don’t want to call the game because there is no oppportunity to make it up.
July 31st, 201210:40 pm
Burnett just lost his no-hitter – fun to watch during the delay though
Anyone who’d actually take umbrage to my booing of the tarp coming off hasn’t a clue.
A couple of us were here at the ballpark till almost 2 a.m. last night, back up and at it at 8 a.m. today with the trade deadline approach. I had a game story completed with a five-inning complete game for Medlen while ago, just in case game got banged because our desk would need the story right away if that happened.
So when the tarp was removed, that meant the game won’t make it in tomorrow’s paper, that story is now worthless and will be rewritten, and we’ll be here at the ballpark for another couple of hours instead of leaving here at, say, 10:30 after a nice rain-shortened Braves win.
And if you think ANY sportswriter would have been wishing for anything but a rainout in that situation, given the circumstances I just described, it’s because you have no earthly idea what you’re talking about. Period, end of story.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
