About the Braves:
Batting: Chipper Jones went 2-for-4 with a home run Sunday to make him 12-for-35 (.343) over his past 10 games, with three doubles, three home runs and nine RBIs. Juan Francisco hit a 435-foot second-deck home run on Wednesday in Miami, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. He’ll likely start at third base the second game of the series, giving Jones a rest day. Jason Heyward has homered twice in the past four games, including Wednesday in Miami off Wade LeBlanc.
Pitching: In his last start Wednesday against the Marlins, Hanson became the first pitcher to record seven or more walks (seven), seven or more stolen bases (seven), seven or more strikeouts (seven) and still earn a win since Bob Feller did it for the Indians (with 17 strikeouts in nine innings) in 1936. Hanson is going for a career-high 12th win. Kris Medlen will make his first start of the season in place of struggling Jair Jurrjens on Tuesday.
Miscellaneous: The Braves are 6-2 against the Marlins this season, including 2-1 last week in Miami. The Braves are 0-12 on Mondays.
About the Marlins:
Batting: Shortstop Jose Reyes is riding a 16-game hitting streak, while batting .339 (21-for-62) with three doubles, one triple, four home runs, seven RBIs and four stolen bases. Emilio Bonifacio hit his first home run of the year to drive in the game-winning run in a 2-1 win over the Braves last Monday. He is hitting .273 (9-for-33) with four runs and six stolen bases in the past nine games.
Pitching: The Braves will miss ace Josh Johnson, who one-hit them for six innings on nine strikeouts last Monday, this series. Buehrle gave up three runs (two earned) in five innings in a 4-3 Braves win on Tuesday, giving up four walks and five hits. After giving up only one earned run in 14 2/3 innings to win his first two starts of the month, Buehrle has given up six earned runs in 10 innings over his last two, taking a loss and a no-decision.
Miscellaneous: Left fielder Logan Morrison was placed on the disabled list Sunday with right knee inflammation and could require season-ending surgery. After losing a series at home to the Braves, the Marlins took two of three from the Padres, including a 10-inning, 5-4 win on Sunday.
