I as really surprised Fredi yanked JOnny tht quick, especially after the last two performances. He’s not returned completely to last years form, but he’s been much better. Must’ve seen something right away they didn’t like, rather than a lefty righty move. The guy hit the ball hard.

Power rankings mean nothing until the end of September.

But the Braves being in the top 5 is deserved.

I would rank the LAA higher. Still not sold on Oakland and the White Sox. The White Sox might win that weakish division, they got a gift in the disappointing season that Detroit has had.

Correia is a ten year vet and 31 years old, still putting up numbers that y’all rant about Delgado putting up at age 22. Low K rate, low K to BB rate, mediocre WHIP and a plus 4 ERA, both for the year and his career.

@Lew — I hope they pass on Correia. I’d rather keep what we have. I have not heard Correia rumors.

The way things have gone now and the way Sheets has been, I’d rather take my chances on making a run the way they are now. Why not, there is no Bob Gibson, Tom Seaver or Sandy Koufax out there & that is the kind of pitcher I want to mortage the future for.

Braves are doing pretty good with what they have.

And as for the Spann talk, that is something they might want to entertain in the off season if need be. Do not move Bourn now, worse come to worse take back the picks and make the best of em.

Centerfielder with a good contract. Better player than you think. Not the defender Bourn is – but a near equal offensive player and since we aren’t allocating a ridiculous amount of funds into Bourn(we had better not), we need affordable options.

If we cannot do it with Bourn, than Spann is a decent target. And cheaper.

That would give them flexibility to extend Mc Cann and Prado, both of whom I want to keep.

Would want to keep Bourn too, but hey, we know the budget around here. But if we keep two out of the three that is not so bad.

Before adding this and that, I would rather keep the guys like Mac and Marteen who have done something for us.

no to Shields if the cost will be higher than Greinke. We do not need a #4 or #5 starter unless he is a significant upgrade over Medlen or delgado. Not worth the trade.

Span’s contract: 13:$4.75M, 14:$6.5M, 15:$9M club option ($0.5M buyout) – 11.75 million in 2013 and 2014. I have trouble finding a better suited replacement for Bourn than Span. And we match up perfectly for Span. They need major league pitching, and we have that. I don’t think we’d need to give up Teheran for him either. Not saying this trade needs to happen now – but this offseason? Absolutely.

@Ray — And that is fine and makes some business sense but by all means pursue extensions for both Mac and Prado this off season.

There is sometihing about keeping a clubhouse together as much as you can and keeping guys around who have done something for you. Teams who have won have done that like we did in the 90;s you never heard of the Braves losing players that they really needed when TEd was in control.

It is not like that now, but you have to keep somebody around.

I give the Phillies credit for keeping their pieces around and as bad as they have been this yr, this season is an aberration and they cannot be as bad next yr.

I;d love to have Mac and Prado with a team with Freeman, Simmons and Heyward entering their prine and the kid pitchers comming into their own. I see that happening by ‘14.

There is alot to look forward to if we are smart. And Spann would be a good addition assuming it can be worked out.

Away: .234/.272/.288/.560 184 ABs, 43 Hits, 7 doubles, 10 BB, 29 SO

His numbers for his career mirror this as well.

Speaking of lead off hitters. Yes we will need to replace Bourn at the top of our batting order. However, his replacement doesn’t necessarily have to be a center fielder.

Well, the best team in baseball at the moment (the Reds) also have a very nice problem. His name is Billy Hamilton and they have nowhere to put the kid. Hamilton’s a SS by trade but the consensus is he’s headed for 2B, and Brandon Phillips isn’t going anywhere.
