The Doc is giving out the medicine…
Uggla with a hit. Go buy your lottery tickets today!!!
Daniel Cooley Uggla with a productive AB against his favorite pitcher.
Gotta let him play through it,Just what the doctor ordered.
The Dude Abides... Still
uggla doing everything he can to get his at bat over as soon as possible. I am posting after the double. He just goes up there swinging at every pitch praying it get hit somehow.
Be A Grinderer
About time. Save that ball for Uggla.
Chris from the Rock
Halladay clearly isn’t himself. Not that I’m going to lose any sleep over it.
Outstanding. That buys Uggla 10 more starts, 40 more at-bats, probably 3 more hits.
Okay Uggla, I’m now bending over so you can kick me square in the ass. I’ll accept it. Good job. Hope it’s the start we’ve been looking for.
July 29th, 20121:56 pm
Halladay looks real average right now.
Uggla snapped 0-for-21 with that 2-out RBI double
DAN UGGLA- THANK GOD, I AM FREE AT LAST!
Hey, keep bitching about Uggla.. It’s working!
Say what you want about Uggla, but he’s a team player. Mired in his terrible slump, he was the first guy to congratulate Heyward in the dugout. And after that last hit, maybe the sleeping giant will awake.
Don’t be bunting now with Janish coming up with 2 out!
What did you say…..just so glad you are not the Braves manager……
who was that guy who hit that double?
His name is Dan Uggla.
July 29th, 20121:57 pm
This may be the start for Uggla. His 33 game hitting streak was in July and Aug last year.
And to think I let Halladay start on my fantasy team.
that ball was in the dirt…
that was terrible Ross
25 pitch first inning for Halladay – and he doesn’t like the heat! We may not see too much more of him today. Wait, controversy already????
July 29th, 20121:58 pm
Or…with a Braves fan’s cup half full…..it puts Uggla into a 32 game hitting streak.
The braves are riley
Should’ve been the third out. I didn’t see it hit the ground.
July 29th, 20121:59 pm
Yawn is so overmatched
No one ever answers the question about a second base replacement for uggly. Doesn’t Gwinnett have a player at that position? gonzalez has blind faith in this guy and he doesn’t deserve it. this has been going on long enough and requires a change. he is a drag on the team and they win in spite of him. get someone else in there and do it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Caught a break there, didn’t matter, but maybe the Phillies get a bit frustrated – nice 1st for the Braves.
Well, that was fun while it lasted.
Funny how Halladay recorded his 2000th K but it didn’t result in an out.
Good job Ross…. Way to clear the Janish this inning.
July 29th, 20122:00 pm
Awful lot of bitchin went on between his last hit and that one. I think the last one was about 3 inches inside the left field line but its been a while and my memory could be playing tricks on me.
Nice one. You are probably right on there!
Love these early runs. The Braves starters do so much better when they don’t have to be so fine. For a while there, they were always behind.
Come back now Simmons. Janish hitting. 150 and strands 3 runners.
Mike – Uggla has half our RBIs so far today. Just enjoy the game.
July 29th, 20122:01 pm
woulda been nice to get those other two
Chipper shoulda scored on the double.
July 29th, 20122:03 pm
RE: trades…How about Braves receive Shawn Camp and Reed Johnson for Tommy LaStella, Yohan Flande and Chasen Shreve.
Ump is really tight today. Plate has no corners. Unless the heat gets to the ump and corners come into play could be a few hits and runs scored today.
July 29th, 20122:05 pm
Huddy is getting ill
July 29th, 20122:06 pm
Did you see my post at 1:49?
huh? Chipper did score
UGGLA RBI DOUBLE
Any thoughts on who the Braves may be targeting for a relief pitcher?
Go Braves – SWEEEP!!
July 29th, 20122:08 pm
I hate this SunTrust commercial, but have to confess I’ve gone back to SunTrust myself. Our local branch is fantastic. And since PNC Bank decided they don’t want me as an employee, I see no reason to keep my $$ with PNC.
sorry Jer, somehow I missed it. I would seriously consider that and would definitely do it if they could extend Dempster. Like you, I see it as either way i guess
July 29th, 20122:09 pm
Wow Huddy, trying to take out your competition I see
July 29th, 20122:10 pm
Huddy – “If Uggla can get a hit I can to”
May have a higher average than Dan now too.
Dang, these guys are trying to hit Doc!!!
July 29th, 20122:11 pm
dang it, Hey…
This umps’ strike zone is certainly generous for Halladay !
July 29th, 20122:12 pm
ump seems to like the pitches up a bit
July 29th, 20122:13 pm
Sounds like Doc might be outta there by the 4th inning…
July 29th, 20122:14 pm
Cmon Jhey. Base Hit Time!
JHey is doing the Juan/Rev… fouling off all these pitches
July 29th, 20122:15 pm
That’s it JHey – make him work, he doesn’t like the heat – he’s working hard – let’s see the bullpen.
Great at bat Jason.
Nice battle there Heyward
Heyward fouled off 5 straight pitches, then took ball 2. Then struck out with Huddy at 3rd to end inning. Halladay 44 pitches in 2 innings.
good to make Doc throw 10 pitches, but Huddy out there in the heat all that time too.
July 29th, 20122:17 pm
#1, I’m glad Heyward’s silenced the blog critics calling for his job after his second, injured filled season. Didn’t know how much more I could take of the tired, lame, uncreative “Wayward” moniker. #2, I don’t care how confident Uggla is in himself. That confidence isn’t giving us offensive results. He’s a streaky hitter, in the worse way. I’m going to say that I think we should consider trading him. This is obviously his pattern. Though a hot Uggla can carry a team, a cold Uggla hurts the team…and he’s cold more often than he is hot.
July 29th, 20122:19 pm
I think where we differ is that I really don’t wanna see him extended because of his age and the fact that he is a power pitcher. Lowe wasn’t even a power pitcher and that signing didn’t work out. I would rather wait for Beachy to come back and hope that Teheran and Vizcaino are with the big club. Of course, that is all contingent on if we can have Sheets with us next year. Lotta ifs I suppose.
July 29th, 20122:20 pm
Ok – take this sac bunt and throw him out at 2nd – let Halladay stay on base
July 29th, 20122:21 pm
Gilmartin will probably be in the rotation next year too – he’ll leapfrog Teheran.
July 29th, 20122:22 pm
Who the heck is Kevin Frandsen?
Really nice column on the Uggla slump, DOB. I’ve not been a great fan of Fredi’s, but his discussion of how to manage Uggla and the team through the slump reveals a thoughtful and deliberate plan. Maybe the most revealing interview with fredi of the year.
If Gilmartin (FSU) makes it into the Braves rotation next year…..Ross ( U of F) should always be his catcher. That way….he has a chance at winning a game in the major leagues.
Lombarfreakindozzi with a leadoff HR for the Nats…

So, you got irritated when people were down on Heyward, but then follow it up by being down on Uggla. How consistant is that?
July 29th, 20122:24 pm
keep that damn gator away from Gil…
I said the same thing. Never heard of him.
July 29th, 20122:25 pm
LOL @Tampa – with Ross being the joker that he is, could you imagine the hazing Gilmartin will get in spring training next year? Should be funny to read about.
Chipper just went yickity too
July 29th, 20122:26 pm
“He’s a streaky hitter, in the worse way.”
Worse than what?
Chipper goes yickety?
Sounds corny as ever, but I’ll take the result.
Yicketty! nice Chipper

Makes no sense. Sorry.
Shut up tom….the old man goes yard!
CHIPPER “MAMMO” JONES!!!!!!
Not sure where I read it, but look up Chipper’s stats when leading off an inning this year. Ridiculous. He showed it again.
Chipper went to see the DOC
July 29th, 20122:27 pm
And now Huddy can put his 2,341 – 2 record with a 3 run lead on the line…
Nicely timed little spot there by Tom Hart – so far, this is fun!
Chipper 1,042 extra-base hits now, moves ahead of Pete Rose into 2nd on all-time extra-base hits list for switch-hitters
Hey…..Chip “went to see” the Doc today……
Congrats Chipper on the BOMB
I have struggled with that as well the last couple years. Maybe not struggled but questioned why Heyward was just murdered on here by most it seemed(when he was obviously hurt) yet Uggla can be horrindous(with no injuries) for days, weeks and months on end yet “he’ll break out of it” is seen much more than it was with JHey.
I have a theory but I wont mention it.
July 29th, 20122:28 pm
You were faster.
May want to hold off of those lottery tickets after all
July 29th, 20122:29 pm
Eddie Murray’s 1,099 extra-base hits is the all-time leader for switch-hitters, then Chipper (1,042), Rose (1,042), Mantle (952)
@Mark, I have about 12 million theories…as in, dollars.
