Bmac is right. A sweep would be another statement to the Phils.
Jeff Baker or Reed Johnson of the Cubbies. Either one would work. And if you had Baker, he could play some second if Uggla doesn’t get it together soon.
July 28th, 201210:31 pm
Why another week or two? He has been bad for so long I think they’ll just keep letting him flounder around most days and sit him occassionally – Hopefully tomorrow will be one
July 28th, 201210:32 pm
Uggla needs to open his eyes in the batters box – just like Medlin is doing in the goofy picture DOB commented on. Stop the Squint.
Braves foundation only needs 1000 applicationtions to have a state license plate. I’ve put my application In Where in the he’ll are the rest of you? That is nuts. Eight and a half million people and you can’t get 1000 people to sign up for a Braves tag. You people disgust me. Oh by the way Go Braves !!
good question about Uggla and post season Jerry, which is one of the main reasons I would like to see them get somebody like Reed Johnson or Hairston
July 28th, 201210:33 pm
ACE—”Fredi said that several times in his post game quotes-let’s get greedy. Is wanting to win greedy?”
Wow, is wanting to nitpick every single thing FG says greedy?
Why the hate for Constanza, what has he ever done wrong?
Uggla cannot do the job anymore, Fredi should send him home and hope he comes back in ST and does better.
Prado at second is never a bad option, and you have to fill in LF with somebody.
Uggla has metamorphed into a bad MLB hitter and deserves to be Booed. How much longer do you wait?
July 28th, 201210:34 pm
MIBravesfan, got it. I do like Mikey…hope he is turning the corner. I am also torn over the Cubs trade…I like Delgado more than I do Teheran…from what I have seen. But, people who know a lot more about baseball than I do, seem to still like Julio better.
I wanted Greinke as I thought we had a legit shot to resign him, but understand not taking the gamble…to an extend. We are one of the youngest teams in baseball. A lot of our “prospects” are already helping the team. We need a true #1 to match up against the best, IMO.
they told me that out of state applications don’t count Salt
July 28th, 201210:37 pm
Not nitpicking, winning should not be considered greed. In the phils case it is another nail in their coffin.
July 28th, 201210:38 pm
BAS. I was in San Fran for all star week Would have enjoyed your company at Irish times for the game. Too afraid to put my info on the blog cause I prob would have gotten dents instead of you
Halladay huh? BALLGAME!!!!
July 28th, 201210:39 pm
Sounds good to me.
Ha Ha Ha. Hello nolie.
July 28th, 201210:40 pm
I’m scared Frank Wren might say something simple like……. we finally came together. Let’s go win the DIvision now.
Hi Salt. that would be cool to get a Braves plate good luck
July 28th, 201210:41 pm
I’m guessing Frank is already thinking that KL. reliever and bencher coming up.
July 28th, 201210:42 pm
Well, I just spent about 20 minutes reading the Philly blog – I think some of the same people must post over there Saw a bunch of the same comments, only different names. . They seem to think this is a pretty good team playing in Atlanta – and they are disgusted w/coaching and management. Guess it’s the same all over – everyone wants to bitch.
nolie. Fred Bilentnikoff. Jerry jones. Tony Yeomans. Barret Browning. Only FSU people I know
July 28th, 201210:45 pm
yup every team’s blog is exactly the same. names have been changed to protect the guilty is all
July 28th, 201210:47 pm
Okay, here is a sober thought for you guys. We’ve all been through Uggla’s problems this year and so many have said that we shoul and have to play him so he’ll eventually come outta his slump. But what if we make the playoffs and he still is not hitting? Are you guys still in favor of playing him even though each one of his outs becomes magnified in a short series?
Interesting…. in that case, I might, MIGHT, consider it and let Rev or Yanish or or someone play 2nd… don’t really have a guy I’d feel all comfy with in left other than Prado.
Sheets when healthy was always a #1,if he stays healthy we have that shut down guy. With Meds in the starting rotation, the pitching is deeper. The bats are the problem, sacrifice a Chicken, leave rum( Lowe is gone now)Add Cuban Cigar.
July 28th, 201210:48 pm
I was thinking that this afternoon – if the Tigers had a blog anywhere near as good as this one, Dombrowski would have been being roasted for trading Turner for “this guy”?!
July 28th, 201210:49 pm
Halladay huh? BALLGAME!!!
July 28th, 201210:50 pm
Updated story: Braves beat Phillies fifth time in a row, move to season-high 12 games over .500
John Leonard. I’m in your corner
July 28th, 201210:51 pm
July 28th, 201210:52 pm
thank you David
Minor looked like a MLB player tonight.
Hudson is. If his ankle holds up
Sheets is If this ALice in Wonderland story continues
Hanson is in trouble. Will he walk one an inning? Will every runnrer run on him? Will he throw more balls or strikes. He’s matched up against the Marlins, so you know it’s coming,
Medlen is just what he is. No magic guy is coming out and throwiing 8 IP w/2 runs every 5th day.
Many more paragraphs full of questioons are coming soon.
July 28th, 201210:53 pm
I remember back in 1991, Sid Bream slumped really bad in the post season while Hunter and Lonnie Smith were doing well. Sid could have swallowed his pride and requested to be benched so that Hunter could play first base and Lonnie could play left and had more experience in the Metrodome than Hunter did, but he chose not to. I don’t wanna see Uggla playing in the post season if he is still struggling. We would need everybody clicking at the same time, or we’ll make an early exit like we have in our last few playoffs.
July 28th, 201210:55 pm
I’m a daydream believer….
I’m hoping that Wren gets us someone that can play left so that we can play Prado at second if need be.
The Phillies are perfectly positioned for a big run – they are already 2 1/2 games ahead of the Padres…
July 28th, 201210:56 pm
Johnson or Hairston…
July 28th, 201210:57 pm
Does Clusters only blog with Schultz now?
Gotta go to bed now. Not sure if I should puff out my chest or cry uncle. You folks confuse me so. Leaving town in the AM and will return Wednesday PM. Be good to each other…
July 28th, 201211:00 pm
And you know what? They’ll be leading the division before too long… ready to make the playoffs. They’re not out of it.
July 28th, 201211:02 pm
Hopefully Constanza or Hinski tomorrow and Johnson, Haiston other days.
Give somebody deserving a chance.
Per MLB Trade Rumors:
The White Sox have acquired Francisco Liriano for Eduardo Escobar and Pedro Hernandez, the team announced.
July 28th, 201211:03 pm
Tony Bennet. One more time. Drinking my last rum drink. Wife and dog are in the bed waiting for me. Goodnight to you nolie.
July 28th, 201211:04 pm
nothing deserving about Constanza
Arms are coming off the board like hot cakes
YES!!! Liriano isn’t coming here… one hurdle covered.
How can the Sox make all these trades? Their farm sukks. And this one is within the division!!!
July 28th, 201211:05 pm
Dang White Sox!
July 28th, 201211:06 pm
“How can the Sox make all these trades? Their farm sukks. And this one is within the division!!!”
The White Sox are in it to win it, it seems. They were in big time on Greinke but don’t get him and within 24 hours acquire a starting pitcher. That’s how you do business.
July 28th, 201211:07 pm
Hinske and Constanza are not deserving of anything right now…
Indeed. And we got 2 of them. Batista and Medlen!!! We’re so lucky.
Do You Think Hunter Pence Could Get Traded To The Braves?
they could get burned by Liriano. Let them have him
DOB already said the Braves weren’t pursuing that pitcher, so . . . .
July 28th, 201211:08 pm
Nolie, hope so!
325 at Gwinett and leading the league down there. Decent defender and good speed.
not during the season anyway Bama IMO
July 28th, 201211:09 pm
Josh Johnson…I want him and know we aren’t getting him!
July 28th, 201211:11 pm
I think Felix Pie needs to be up with the big league club now. Send Constanza back down. Another huge night for Pie down at Gwinnett.
July 28th, 201211:12 pm
One of the most amazing musical guests in the history of Jimmy Buffett concerts coming up – playing congas…
Jason just keep saying like a ‘mantra”. JJ Makes $15m; Julio makes $.5M Maybe it will slither into Luria and Samson’s head.
July 28th, 201211:13 pm
Pie has sukked his entire MLB career
noted musician Shane Battier…
July 28th, 201211:14 pm
In order to feel other players aren’t deserving then you must have standards to determine whether they are or not. What makes hitting 110 over the last 7 weeks deserving or 213 over the whole year deserving?
What the he’ll. Goodnight to the rest of you. It is a beautiful night down in south georgia. Got cicadas and owls. And the rain cooled off life. Enjoy!!
He would be one of the best options off our bench…so just goes to show you how bad the bench is.
Don’t think it’ll happen. Not happening during the season, and his contract will drive Braves away next season. Don’t want to send anything to the Phillies anyway…
Marlins want a more-than-Greinke return for him…
Watch him put up a 5.5 ERA rest of the way lol.
I think Felix Pie needs to be up with the big league club now. Send Constanza back down.
July 28th, 201211:15 pm
Might work, Key!
September costs 80 thou per player now days
July 28th, 201211:16 pm
You will survive being tested – somebody strong comes along, makes me forget, forget about loving you – and the Southern Cross…
what bench??? we have a bench?
July 28th, 201211:17 pm
“what bench??? we have a bench?”
July 28th, 201211:18 pm
What’s the probability of someone like Sheets falling out of the sky, giving up one run in 18 innings and being 3 – 0? + winning three games in the NL East.
July 28th, 201211:19 pm
I know, so I’m thinking that the Braves stop at about 10 players… 800k right there… should have room to get him on. 6 pitchers 4 hitters.
Yeah, and from what I hear, it’s pretty good and solid. It can support the weight of all 25 players, coaches, and support staff…
July 28th, 201211:20 pm
And we never failed to fail. It was the easiest thing to do.
July 28th, 201211:21 pm
Unbelievable really, Key
Carroll should be listening to Shane playing congas right now – it totally transforms Margaritaville…
10 players? I’m thinking more like 5-6 at the most
July 28th, 201211:22 pm
SALT LIFE –
July 28th, 201211:23 pm
Pretty good when it’s Ben Sheets. He’s da man!
pretty hard to get 80thou worth of value out of a part time player in just a month
July 28th, 201211:24 pm
freshen up the linen and extend sheets
July 28th, 201211:25 pm
Ah, if only we had traded JJ in the offseason like I wanted…. coulda brought on an extra 60 players lol
July 28th, 201211:26 pm
Dont worry. The Braves wont do anything other than minor moves. They dont have the money and they think every player we have in the minors is the next future all star. I was looking at the list of futures from one of the preseason magazines. Its amazing how so many are up in the majors this year. Well, except of course Teheran. He is still in the minors and really needs to go back to double A. Not good at all.
But has all the talent in the world. At least thats what our scouts say.
He’s a human parachute! (Love ya’ Ben, and thanks for all you’re doing for this team!)
VJ. Top 5 in my book. Horrer grips us as we watch you die
July 28th, 201211:27 pm
Consecutive tremendous starts from Sheets and Minor takes a lot of the pressure off of Wren. As long as Tim Hudson is Tim Hudson tomorrow, Wren will be disinclined to do anything desperate.
Still, if King Felix does wind up in play, that changes the math a lot.
I doubt that we’ll be calling up 6 pitchers. 3 at best. Maybe 4 or 5 hitters.
July 28th, 201211:29 pm
Is Delgado going to start at some point? If Hanson falters–and he looks like the weak link in our rotation right now–I could see Delgado taking his spot. Delgado has been looking better lately, like Minor. I’m wondering if giving him a start might help us figure that out
PEARL, MS-The Mississippi Braves defeated the Mobile BayBears 7-3 to complete the series sweep Saturday night at Trustmark Park. With two outs in the top of the ninth, Cory Rasmus hit a batter, resulting in immediate ejection from the game. Mike Tarsi then came in to pitch and after a wild pitch to the next batter, Rossmel Perez came in to score. He took out Tarsi, who was covering the plate, and both benches cleared.
Braves catcher Christian Bethancourt, Braves third baseman Alden Carrithers, BayBears catcher Perez, and BayBears manager Turner Ward were all ejected from the game following the brawl. Tarsi remained in the game to record the final out and close the game.
Sounded like a fun game
July 28th, 201211:30 pm
half that 80K a month is salary. What’s the other 50%
1. Raise over minor league pay
2. Lodging allowance
4. Union Dues
6. Rooms on the road and meal money
July 28th, 201211:31 pm
seriously. they are very unlikely to call up 8 or ten players. 2-3 pitchers, 2-3 hitters
Bethancourt is a fighta! Call him up!
They coulda really used Gattis there…
July 28th, 201211:32 pm
Vj. See……I still can’t spell……missed saying you are top five bloggers. Matters not. I’m drunk. Nolie is still my fave. He will talk to me when no one else will
the 80 K is all salary. 1/6 of 500 thou minimum. the other cost are separate
July 28th, 201211:34 pm
Barmaid, bring a pitcher – another round or two…
So, Noles…you don’t think FW is going to make a mover for a SP?
July 28th, 201211:35 pm
Those were the days, my friend
We thought they’d never end
We’d sing and dance forever and a day
We’d live the life we choose
We’d fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way
July 28th, 201211:36 pm
White Sox have traded for Youk (who many said wasn’t worth it), Myers, and Liriano. Gotta admire Willaims sometimes…if they are in it, he goes for it. Bigger budget of course…
July 28th, 201211:38 pm
I’m getting less hopeful Jason, and there are guys available that I hope he doesn’t get. we’ll see. I’d about as soon ger a really good bench guy who can play fairly regularly id Uggs does not pick it up , and a better reliever than Bastista
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
