Jerry, haven’t you heard? The Phillies still have a chance to make the playoffs, they’re getting healthy and gonna play .700 baseball the rest of the way…. Remember the Cards last year? The team that played .525 baseball July to seasons’ end? The Phils gonna copy them…
Hope to see Hudson at his best tomorrow against Halladay. Hope it’s a hot and muggy day for Halladay. Still, I love seeing Halladay pitch when he’s on his game.
I was at the final series at the end of September last year against these guys. I still remember the sick feeling of being swept away for the series and the season. It was an awful, sickening feeling. Winning the series with a chance to sweep feels real good! Real good!!
And Charlie Manuel makes a smarta comment about BMac’s AVG, and BMac takes an 0-fer—tired of things working out that way, be it baseball, real life, or wherever…
That’s the reason why I said there 7 teams to pass. Too many teams and not all can slump like we did last year.
Indeed. Which is why I find it foolish that some on here still think they can come back. They’re cooked and have been for a while. The Cards weren’t under .500 at the deadline last year. The Phillies are.

Minor is still young — there are going to be ebbs and flows. Just like Heyward, who was destroyed by the bipolar bloggers for 1 1/2 years. Game is played on the field — not on PlayStation.

That is a huge win it always great to beat the Philles. Minor was outstanding tonight with that said let’s all hope that Wren is working on getting a starting pitcher and anther Bat
He is a talent. It’ll probably take him a while to get back at the plate like he was but we’ll be better again right away.
As for Yawnish, he is exactly what he was supposed to be plus to me. Never can complain too much when a player does all he can do. He came here as a good defender and not much of a stick. He is doing his part and filling his role nicely.
I am surprised to see the fundamantal mistakes by the Phoolies team with a bunch of high paid veteran players.
It is as if some of these guys have lost their focus and mailed it in.
Great game by Minor & the adversity that he went through might be a blesing in disguise, might make him stronger and going through that and pitching a string of good game might make him into the pitcher we want him to be.
Not asking him to be an ACE but a solid durable 200 IP 12 to 15 game winning pitcher.
His career so far MIBravesFan…so far. Sorry I wasn’t clear. One month doesn’t overshadow the rest of his career so far…hey, I hope he has turned the corner, but let’s not get the cart in front of the horse just yet folks.
Looks like Minor is getting on the upside of his learning curve…..must be time to trade him for a bag of balls and a 2 month rental. Seriously, even Glavine keeps harping on having patience with him – and he should know cause there was a bunch of patience with him. BTW – if we had won 10 straight pennants and Glavine stunk like he did when called up – we would have probably traded him for nothing.
It’s tough not to pull the trigger when your team is real close – but if Struggla can figure out had to hit again then it will be better than any foolish trade. Walker needs to get him fixed ASAP. This first thing he needs to do is open his eyes and stop squinting in the batters box. I think its messing up his vision. Big arms and little squinting eyes are not working right now.
I also estimate that Kimbrell will get an enormous payraise one day.
When its Marteen’s time to negotiate he and his agent should start by asking for $10 mil per.
Maybe we can extend him for 8 or 9 mmmm per when the time comes. They should start talking next yr, hopefully.
Do not be surprised if he gets it, if we do not pay somebody else will. Don’t know how many yrs, but some one will want him if LM does not pony up the $$$$$$.
Minor was MAJOR tonight! You only learn to do it under fire. Great game!!!!! Nice to add an arm, but if Medlin goes to #5, if we can boost the bullpen and find a bat somewhere, this team is capable of surprising people.
I’m not and I assume no one else is. He’s a young pitcher and it takes time for young pitchers to “get it” at the major league level, no matter how “polished” in college. I think he’s showing he can be a good major league pitcher, and if his ceiling is a #3 starter – what the heck is wrong with that?!
The diffrence between Minor and Jo Jo is that Minor is a guy who is capable of learning and Jo Jo is a total dumb imbecille who could not learn even from the best.
The mental mindset is a part of the game. You have to have the talent but the mindset is what separates AAA from MLB.
Hopefully we’ll have Prado at 2B, Constanza in LF tomorrow — I’m sure Francisco will be at 3B….

Craig Kimbrel: 3rd pitcher in #Braves history to have consecutive 30-save seasons. Other 2: Mark Wohlers and John Smoltz.
That’s not to say he won’t be, but he has pitched well for a month, bro. A month doesn’t overshadow the rest of his career.
And next start, if he gets pounded – it’s back to him being garbage. That’s the way it goes around here…..
What I know right now is Mike Minor has a 5.18 ERA, so I think it’s going to have to be mid-September before I give the kid real props – provided his ERA is around 4.5.
You have to nickel and dime Halladay to death. It’s Halladay. You can’t go right at him. I figure Constanza is good for a high chopper out of the 8-9 hole.
Okay, here is a sober thought for you guys. We’ve all been through Uggla’s problems this year and so many have said that we shoul and have to play him so he’ll eventually come outta his slump. But what if we make the playoffs and he still is not hitting? Are you guys still in favor of playing him even though each one of his outs becomes magnified in a short series?
Ike Davis had Valley Fever last year as well as a serious ankle injury. He was absolutely going to get off to a slow start this year. He’s shown huge power since June 10 – .266/.311/.597(151 PA’s) – and that’s before tonight’s 3 HR barrage.
good point above – it is curious that Delgado is not taking Jurrjens spot. I guess they wanted to keep Jurrjens in the majors and try him in relief so swapping him with Medlen was the choice.
I really don’t want Dempster. He’s 35 and obviously does not want to be in Atlanta. After his recent antics and the Cubs increasing desperation to unload him before 7/31, I would think his price tag has dropped and Delgado is off the board.
Additionally, whether he stalled the deal or not, Atlanta lost 2 or 3 starts from him with the delay.
“They had our number for three or four years there, and for us to go there and sweep, then come here and win two and have a chance to sweep them tomorrow, that’s big for us. Because that’s kind of a hurdle we needed to get over. They’ve got all their players here, all their guys that they won the World Series with. So it’s good to go out there, play good baseball and win.”
Sorry, Jason – the #3 comment was actually aimed at Efrim for an earlier post of his. The Braves are not going to trade for a #1 before the deadline, I don’t think. I don’t know if they can sign one in the off-season. The best way to get a #1 is to develop him, and that’s why Frank Wren refuses to be stupid with his prospects. And I don’t think that Delgado is a #1, but I didn’t want to give him up for 2 months of Dempster. I’m glad that trade fell through. I’d be happy to get Dempster for less.
Don’t know why but when Constanza is on the roster the wins keep on coming, send him down and go on another losing streak. Fredi keeps repeating the same scenario over and over.
to outbid Angels for Greinke would have been a mistake. how can you give away 3 top prospects if you may not be able to have him next year. is he even worth $20 mill a yr ?
I think Wade Davis is our best option now based on his age, salary and what it might take to acquire him..
the real issue is how the Braves (who draft pitchers endlessly) are in this position. mediocre scouting and player developemnt. BA said Fri in it’s weekly ques and answer setup to one Braves fan that Teheran has had bad command, pitchability and hasn’t improved his breaking ball . why ?
you can acquire anyone if you outbid everyone else and get ripped off.
the braves won’t even pay a small tax for exceeding their 10 round draft bonus allocation and they are going to sign a pitcher to a $100mill + contract ?

You have to nickel and dime Halladay to death. It’s Halladay. You can’t go right at him. I figure Constanza is good for a high chopper out of the 8-9 hole.
That’s the only reason nolie.

Jordan Schafer 2012
.224 .307 .304 .612
@keylargo — I am not surprised. Never did like Jordan HGH Schafer and he also got busted for pot in the off season.
Very dumb guy and Wren stole Bourn even if we only keep him for a yr and a half.
I will always have a soft spot for Bourn wherever he goes. For not just enjoy Mike.
Schafer is a lousy player. He and Reyes are among my least favorite Braves ever.

Nothing. I like Minor. A #3 is fine. I said we need a #1. Coach cited Minor’s stats…asked if that was a #1. I said no, Minor isn’t. End of story.

Ike Davis had Valley Fever last year as well as a serious ankle injury. He was absolutely going to get off to a slow start this year. He’s shown huge power since June 10 – .266/.311/.597(151 PA’s) – and that’s before tonight’s 3 HR barrage.

Look at that picture of goofy Medlen on our Braves page at AJC.com. Now that is funny.

good point above – it is curious that Delgado is not taking Jurrjens spot.

McCann on beat Phillies last 5 in a row:
“They had our number for three or four years there, and for us to go there and sweep, then come here and win two and have a chance to sweep them tomorrow, that’s big for us. Because that’s kind of a hurdle we needed to get over. They’ve got all their players here, all their guys that they won the World Series with. So it’s good to go out there, play good baseball and win.”

DOB – do you know what the Braves brass thinks of JR Graham? In the same league as Delgado as far as potential, a tier below, or many tiers below??

Constanza is a great player, so long as you don’t have to use him.

If Uggla doesn’t pick it up in the next week or two, I’d expect him to do some sitting.
