For those who say Bourn should hae been dealt — what do you think you are getting for him????

A Tex to the Angels deal Part II??????

If Micheal walks, we take the picks and hope to make the most out of them. Nothing guaranteed anyway, but I’ll take the picks over another Kotchman/Marek thrift store junk package.

For now, enjoy Bourn while we have him (Personally I think he is having a career yr). He is good, but this is a real good yr for Mikey. Might be the best yr he will ever have.

He is bound to have an adverse start somewhere down the line so lets see how he bounces back from one of those.

That is the kind of move that Mr. Wren has to make and once in a while if he finds a diamond in the rough than that is brilliant General Managing.

If he can find that diamond in the rough every couple of yrs that is real outstanding. If once a yr that is HOF executivitivity.

Just say NO TO DUMPSTER and his 8 starts…

Could Dempster still land with Braves? Some still think he will
By Danny Knobler | Baseball Insider
July 28, 2012 6:50 pm ET

The Braves didn’t get Ryan Dempster, so they turned to Zack Greinke.

They didn’t get Zack Greinke, so now they’ll turn . . . back to Ryan Dempster?

The longer the Cubs go without agreeing to trade Dempster to the Dodgers, and the longer the Braves go without acquiring another starting pitcher, the more people in baseball start thinking that Dempster could end up with the Braves, after all.

Dempster never directly said that he wouldn’t go to the Braves, but he also never approved the deal that the two teams reached last week. While that trade isn’t still on the table, it still seems clear that the Braves are willing to offer more for Dempster than the Dodgers are.

Because he has more than 10 years and the big leagues and more than five with his current team, Dempster owns the right to approve or reject any trade.

Dempster’s indecision last week caught the Braves by surprise, because they had been led to believe that they were one of two teams he would agree to go to (with the Dodgers being the other one).

The Braves still hope to add a pitcher, but they’ve suggested to other teams that they didn’t have a hot second option behind Greinke, who the Brewers traded to the Angels on Friday night.

When the original Dempster deal fell through, Braves general manager Frank Wren told reporters that he was moving on. But the Braves have continued to monitor the situation, as the Cubs and Dodgers reached an impasse over what prospect or prospects would go to Chicago in a deal.

The Braves have already added a pitcher this month, and they like to remind you that Ben Sheets has won each of his first three starts, with a 0.50 ERA. While the Braves lost out to the Angels on Greinke, they beat out the Cardinals, Yankees and Phillies to sign Sheets.

Still, it’s obvious that the Braves would like to add one more pitcher. Manager Fredi Gonzalez announced Saturday that he was putting Jair Jurrjens in the bullpen, with Kris Medlen replacing him in the rotation, for now.

Jerry

July 28th, 2012
7:43 pm

Right now, we have Hudson, Sheets, and Minor doing well. Hanson isn’t doing great, but he is winning his games, so the offense is picking him up. Medlen moving to the rotation makes us complete. Get some bench players and who knows.

Efrim

July 28th, 2012
7:45 pm

Don’t care what anyone says. Jon Lester is still a top of the rotation type arm and I’d love to have him in an Atlanta Brave uniform. But the Red Sox believe that his ceiling is still that too, so they won’t trade him. Beckett will be traded this offseason though, but I don’t think the Braves would bring his personality into this clubhouse.

Lester has been a mess this season though the change of scenery could do him good.

Still wary of giving up too much. And the way Minor is going, no way we move Minor for either Lester or Dempster, and the Dempster stuff still has not gone away.

Maybe we can buy lower on Dempster. Who knows. Wren is keeping it close to the vest and not devulging much and that is what he should do.

As happy as I am for Sheets the way he has come back, I am sad that he will probably sign for a big contract next year like Jaret Wright. When Ben was with the Brewers, I always had this wish one day he would pitch for the Braves. Never thought it would happen though. Medlen deserves to get a chance to start and for me, I am taking the wait and see approach to see how good he will be.

Things could work out that in the end we will be glad we could not make a trade.

On field performance wins games, if pennants were won by the Hot Stove League, the Marlins would be 15 in front. LOL they did not give it the whole yr to break that up. Too bad for Marlin fans but you have to have commitment for more than one yr to build your fan base. They did not even give that plan the whole yr.

But I do not feel sorry for the division rival — still do not like em for the 97 NLCS.

So glad we didn’t go after Greinke. Overrated. Yes, he won the Cy Young, but he also has a 4.09 ERA away from Milwaukee this year and is well known to STINK in pressure situations. No thanks. Especially not for good prospects

.. and this is coming from a guy(me) that has been annoyed since the beginning of last year at the potential bats we missed out on because we were unwilling to trade our pitching prospects.

I am stoked to see Medlen get a chance. Maybe the idiots in the Braves front office and dugout are starting to realize that someone who has PROVEN himself is worth two people that haven’t. Medlen should have been in the rotation out of the gate and the job was handed to Delgado who had a horrible spring. Delgado didn’t even WIN the job. How pathetic is that.

If Medlen had been starting since game 1, we might actually be leading the division right now.
