Braves, the yunel trade a bad trade? What has escobar done for the Jay’s. They are wanting to move him.. why he is a problem in the clubhouse. Look at the Bourn trade, yea horrible. Vazquez deal from the whitesox,,which led to making the deal with the Yanks and getting Vizcaino. Renteria to the Tigers for JJ. And yes Uggla has struggled but the actual trade for omar and mike dunn, still a good trade.
@Ray It is true that Wren also had really good trade in the past. But my point if you going to get someone such Ryan Dempster who is 35 years old why would you offered Randall Delgado. Even if Dempster had agree contract extension with the Braves we are still talking about someone who is 35.
Thank you Frediot for batting Uggla 6th. Always good to have the NL’s strikeout leader, and a guy who’s hitting .100 over the past couple months, behind your # 5 hitter. Freeman won’t get anything to hit, Uggla fans, pops up or hits in to DP. Thank God the Phillies are awful. Braves were able to win last night with 6 Major League hitters in lineup. Let’s hope they can do it again today!
@Braves, The advantage many have on here, is (not saying you because I don’t know) is they will rip Wren and the Braves for wanting to make a move for a Dempster or Greinke or anyone for that matter. And then when the Braves don’t make one of those moves, they rip them for NOT making the move. And the ones that crack me up the most are the ones that say, why didn’t Wren get in on that player or this player. Perfect example, so many ripped him for not going after Cody Ross. The fact is, he did. Ross just chose the Redsox. No one on here knows who he pursues or doesn’t. What the other teams demand in return etc. Safe bet he is in talks with about 3-4 teams that none of us have any idea and will never know unless a deal is actually done.
Man, I hope Huddy is on his game today. Would be sweet to sweep the Phils out of town! Of course, they may start making our competition better by trading some of their players, but their big 3 pitchers are going to stay together. Can you believe they have 3 pitchers making 20+ mill? That’s crazy.
Cherry picking trades isnt fair. Its always a gamble. Some work out great, some bad and some never even matter to either team. The Braves have been just as lucky in times as other teams and just as unlucky. Its part of baseball and nothing to get too worked up over.
Jake, it does that to me too. Sometimes it’ll say awaiting moderation. Just on the computer, won’t do it on my phone internet. Something is wrong with this site, but don’t expect anything to be fixed.
Minor in his post game interview confused me, which is a good thing. Like Glavine, he can go on and on about strategies, etc. Shows they know their stuff. I think Minor is going to be better than a lot of us think one day. Seems real intelligent when it comes to pitching.
Thanks Brian, was trying to figure out what was going on, whether it was technical problems or if I got banned for some unknown reason, been doing it now for about a week. Just wanted to know what was going on.
Bringing up the Escobar trade, under the circumstances Wren did what he had to do at the time — Yunel had to be shipped out of here. He was not hitting the first half of 2010 and his basserunning gaffes were bad news bears stuff.
A. Gonzales, for his faults with OBP was better than many gave him credit for. And last September, when the team was falling apart Alex was their best regular player down that stretch. He gave the Braves the good D and some timely power. He had 15 HRS, 29 doubles and two triples, & I think 60 RBI. Not bad for a shortstop.
As for Tim Collins, that was one arm I would hae liked to see kept around but Wren was going for help down the stretch at tha time. What move was that for, Farnsworth or was it Ankiel? Do not remember off the top of my head.
Good morning all

Oh, yeah, we don’t want him. He can stay there where he wants to be. I will be disappointed if FW goes out and acquires him after he said no thanks and then went on to say LA is where he wants to be with his buddy Lilly. Lilly, who I don’t think any of us like.
Dempsre’s value is falling fast. With every game he pitches, there’s one less start to trade away. With every paycheck that he cashes, there’s one less dollar that the cubs can eat.
At this rate, Braves might get him for Org Depth and Salary Relief.
Plus too, I don’t think Dempster would feel comfortable now if he got traded to the Braves. He knows everybody’s read his quotes about the near trade the first time.
I’m still a big Lew fan, just don’t agree at all with your ideology regarding what the front office has been thinking all season to what direction the club is going.
abeeewright, unfortunately, that could be what Wren is waiting on for his value to fall far enough to snatch him for some prospects nobody’s heard of. I just don’t want a guy on my team that doesn’t want to be there. Just a weird feeling.
You won’t believe this, but it’s true: Chipper, now on Twitter, had a Tweet last night where he said he had a “date with the Doc” today, and Fredi Gonzalez’s kid saw it and told him last night. Fredi was worried sick, said he couldn’t sleep much, and not until he got to ballpark today did he realize what Chipper meant.
Based on Minor’s quotes, it sounded like he had to get pounded before he’d open his mind and try things the way his pitching coach and catchers were recommending.
Reminds me of the scene in Bull Durham where Nuke wants to “bring the heat” and crash tells the batter what’s coming. “Anything that travels that far, that ast ought to have a stewardess.”
Brian, do you really think that small stuff matters? These guys are professionals. What’s said is said. Dempster would be accepted in the clubhouse day 1 if he ever came here. Chipper’s been on record saying he’s a huge Dempster fan.
Stuff that gets me so irritated here is garbage said and written that’s taken to heart from a lot of people. Think Wren ever thought about revisiting Dempster after his comments that we are moving away? Sure he has. Think Dempster has thought about being a Brave the last couple of days? Sure he has. The Blue Jays say Yunel has been a good guy in the clubhouse this year. What are they suppose to say? He’s a total cancer, please we won’t somebody to take him? Toronto would trade him in a heartbeat if they could get return on him.
Folks need to look past the phychological BS that they read and hear and really decipher what is fact and total nonsense.
Frankie – I base a good bit of my ideology on what FW has done in the past. Could he change his MO? I suppose so, especially with some financial flexibility next season. But in my experience, leopards don’t change their stripes too often and I don’t think that Frank is going to go out and change his basic phiosophy (That mid market teams develop their young pitching because they can’t afford the high price players).
And so far he hasn’t.
I also believe that Minor and Delgado are going to be much better than many believe that they will and that even IF they do only rise to the level of a number three starter, that a numer three starter is nothing to denigrate.
Lew old buddy to answer your question above – yes right now. Haven’t been able to walk any distance for a month. How ballplayers can play through it amazes me.
About Dempster, even if we made an equitable trade for him (i.e. no top prospects) just don’t see the Braves Nation embracing him.
What I don’t get is when people are so sure the Braves window is closing. You have Heyward, Freeman, Kimbrel, Prado, McCann, Hanson, Simmons, Minor, Delgado, Teheran here for a while unless one or two are traded, but they’d be traded for now for players here for now and the future anyways. That’s a good foundation, if not great.

About Dempster, even if we made an equitable trade for him (i.e. no top prospects) just don’t see the Braves Nation embracing him.
If he pitches well(wins) Brave nation would have no beef with him,Especially if Delgado is not the traded pitcher.

The Braves window is just opening….Chippers window is 2 months from closing.
Ideally Win this year and send Hoss to the HOF a champion, start a new run of titles with the young core.Tough job for sure.
Can’t agree with that at all. He traded Delgado for Dempster, that’s pretty much a fact. Just because the guy with 10/5 rights refused to accept, doesn’t change at all that Wren has done things differently.
Braves nation might not support him, but 25 guys in the clubhouse would my guess. Add that he throws well from the get go(pretty solid chance that would happen) and metro Atlanta fans would probably support him. Fans in the Atlanta metro area convinced Wren is putting product on the field to win and attendance would probably see a spike. I know I will be at Turner more often. Whether that is Dempster or somebody else mind you.
ab – or he considers what he brings to the braves not likely enough of an impact to put them in the WS or his wife was adamant he not move unless he had to or about 4 other things I could think of off the top of my head…
frankie – braves attendance will stay up for about another 2-3 weeks then it will decline for 2-3 weeks as various school start dates begin at which point it will return to the 18-22K range until the last week or so of the season (if the braves are in the hunt).
At least that is pretty much what is has done the last 5-6 years from my memory (I haven’t gone and pulled attendance figures to support what I’ve seen so it could just be anecdotal).
Beachcomber – I’ve got back pain on my right side about halfway between underarm and hip that goes in a straight line across to the left if I move wrong. Also bruising on either side of my spine at hiop level and can’t think of anything that could have caused bruising.
Hope it stops soon. I can walk, but not the mile or more daily that I;ve been doing and I need to to lose all this weight – which is probably a contributing factor.
tiger297, your right it will drop when school is in that’s inevitable. Still, if they acquire some pieces in the next 48 hours and the team starts playing even better, more people will come through the turnstiles in September. 2010 this team was bleeding going into September, we all know that. Last year, well we don’t need to go there. This year could be a little different. Add to the fact that Chipper’s last year, something special can be on the horizon if front office somehow makes things happen.
Doesn’t matter if the deal was done, c’mon Lew. He has been on record(maybe you don’t get confirmation being in Vermont) here in Atlanta regarding a deal that included Dempster and Delgado. Anybody else involved, who knows. Doesn’t matter. Point IS, whether it was consummated or not, Wren wanted to trade for a rental(signed extension whatever). Your in denial if you can’t grip this my friend.
I weigh in at 278, wear 38-40 pants/shorts and not a soul can believe the number….doctor gives speech on this issue everytime…..most of it is muscle mass legs, thighs and shoulders/arms….he said I should be 195 ish and he’s nuts; the lowest I got this past spring was 259 and I felt like a girl. The reason I’m telling all this to you is that some are just ‘big-boned’ with big heads (no pun);and no belly-flop…we carry our weight well and walk in an esteemed manner–and why not? Please don’t feel your weight is causing you this pain you have spoken of…..because all this could have happened to a ’scrimp.’ Stay Big Lew as long as your B/P is good….and, enjoy!
Braves attendance is up over 10% from last season. Liberty Media is in the business to make money regardless of what people think. Potential to have a lucrative year at the gate and bring aboard some key players will go a long way in the next 60 days. Factor in a playoff push and more than a first round exit and well, we don’t have time to go through Business 101. Think Wren doesn’t see this as well? Season ticket sales increased next year as well?
If Chipper stays on course, McCann continues upward (where we like), plus Uggla comes out of his funkinstein ‘downed helicopter’ swingin—-not to mention the return of sensation; Andrelton at SS—I see attendence breaking away from the figures of the past few years….exponentially from 18-22k range.
I also believe that Minor and Delgado are going to be much better than many believe that they will and that even IF they do only rise to the level of a number three starter, that a numer three starter is nothing to denigrate.
Just watching MLB Network’s program “Ten Worst Trades” or whatever.
Listed among the worst was KC sending David Cone to the Mets for… Ed Hearn.
Cone was quoted as saying something to the effect that you just never know with pitchers under 25, when the “light bulb” will go off. It did for him, of course.
This notion that Minor and Delgado have to be producers without much major league experience tends not to be the rule. Cone said it took him a little while to figure out the major league game.
Keep both Minor and Delgado, unless a team comes along with a knock-your-socks-off deal for either.
Against Doc Halladay: Chipper Jones is 8-for-16 with two homers, McCann is 9-for-23 with a homer, and Freddie Freeman is 4-for-10 with a homer. Oh, and here’s good news for hopeful Braves fans: Uggla is 10-for-28 (.357) with three homers off Halladay.
Nine pitchers GMs should consider by Ken Rosenthal.http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/pitchers-who-should-be-available-felix-hernandez-matt-garza-bud-norris-bartolo-colon-trade-deadline-072912
If I am Wren I would call the Ms right now and work a trade for King Felix
@Braves4life I don’t think the Braves are going to workout a trade for Pence and even if they did. Then where is Prado going to play in two to three weeks when Simmons is back?
The Mariners are not trading Felix. They have told everyone that unless someone is willing to pay a king’s ransom. Another words, a deal that they could not possibly refuse. Message to the buyer, you will pay thru the nose.
i think the rh bench bat everyone is looking to get will be xavier nady cuz the nats just released him earlier. wren has wanted nady since god knows when. still want him to be aggressive and get a pitcher!!
@Ray I think if Wren offered the Mariners Teheran, Gilmartin, Edward Salcedo,Pastornicky, Joe Terdoslavich, The Ms might very well agree to trade for King Felix
I saw that tweet, and it had me a bit nervous too……………… for about five seconds. It shows just how clueless our manager is. Oh btw, Ross should be batting in front of Uggla.

If he pitches well(wins) Brave nation would have no beef with him,Especially if Delgado is not the traded pitcher.

Ideally Win this year and send Hoss to the HOF a champion, start a new run of titles with the young core.Tough job for sure.

I don’t think Dempster ever said he didn’t want to come to the Braves. Rather, he preferred going to the Dodgers.
At this point, I suspect that he realizes what a dumb move he made and will be a little more favorable to a trade to a contending team.
Or, he doesn’t care about making the playoffs and winning a WS.

Whether that is Dempster or somebody else mind you.

frankie – braves attendance will stay up for about another 2-3 weeks then it will decline for 2-3 weeks as various school start dates begin at which point it will return to the 18-22K range until the last week or so of the season (if the braves are in the hunt).

@Lew……re:pain level/joint injury
