Usual drivel of ignorance from UNC.
Hmmmm….I cant see how Medlen would go an inning tonight and start Monday….
Fredi said Medlen would be available for one inning tonight and still could start Tuesday if needed. They’re still kicking that around
Remember this words
“Imagine, if you go there to see Miss Universe — and you end up having Miss Iowa.”
cubs should be willing to trade Maholm, right? better than Vargas..6.5 mil team option for 2013
@4:19 pm………Liberty Media—veto’s Ankiel deal stating he can be signed as a pitcher only!
July 27th, 20124:51 pm
raleigh, you know facts just get in the way on here. So many know every phone call Wren makes or doesn’t make. What negotiations and offers he makes and doesn’t make.
UNC – Pitchers throw on off days.
whats the status with moylan? any chance he returns this year?
July 27th, 20124:52 pm
He wouldn’t start Monday- he could start Tuesday. And even if he eventually does get moved into the rotation, he’s not going to go more than probably 4 innings in his first outing anyways…

Usual drivel of ignorance from UNC.
I assume you’re a Wolfpecker since your from Raleigh…
Welp, it’s beerthirty. I’m out.
July 27th, 20124:53 pm
I know that but not in live games….Bullpen sessions, etc
Batista…perfect way to fill the void left by Hernandez.
My son graduated from UNC…but we love him anyway.
July 27th, 20124:58 pm
“Ted took 15 years of ownership to spend any serious money and Liberty Media hasn’t had that much time yet?”
Didn’t Ted kick off this whole free agency thing with that Andy Messerschmidt deal? Didn’t Ted spend a sh**load of money away until he dummied up and signed Scheurholz and Cox?
PHILLY PHAN, you obviously don’t know the manager, Fredi G very well. He will use Bautista like he did Livan Hernandez. “Run him out there” when the game is tied, and there’s runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out in the 6th inning. I think FG missed LH, so that’s why he put in for Bautista. If they were going to do this, why didn’t they just keep Livan anyway?
I would laugh so hard I’d get the police called on me for disturbing the peace of Wren sign a Ankiel. Sadly I wouldn’t all be surprised either.
July 27th, 20125:00 pm
He will use Bautista like he did Livan Hernandez
It will be really hard for Fredi to use Batista when he is in Gwinnett…
July 27th, 20125:01 pm
telling teams that they’re turning their focus away from the rotation and are shopping more for bullpen and bench pieces
wow. that is such a surprise to me. and Batista with his 30 some walks in 40 some innings will be a super-duper fill in too
“I would laugh so hard I’d get the police called on me for disturbing the peace of Wren sign a Ankiel. Sadly I wouldn’t all be surprised either.”
While he’s at it, pick up Farnsworth for the 3rd time at the deadine in 7 yrs.
July 27th, 20125:02 pm
Any chance we could get that Jason Gubal guy to play LF for us next year?
And even if he eventually does get moved into the rotation, he’s not going to go more than probably 4 innings in his first outing anyways…
It’s seeming more possible for Wren to do this, no matter how much we scream that he’s more valuable in the pen. If we don’t get Greinke (or any SP) I could see Meds being moved into the rotation and us getting 2 RP.
I bet Meds could go 5 in his first start….
July 27th, 20125:03 pm
you know that starters pitch some about half way between starts. once in a while they will even be used in a game for an inning on that day. Same thing applies to Meds.
nolie, Dempster is still a very real possibility. You agree?
Miguel Descartes Batista Jerez (born February 19, 1971 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher who currently plays for the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.
He Replace Gilmartin in the Rotation in Miss.
July 27th, 20125:04 pm
NOLIE!!!! Where’ve ya been bud? Had me (and others) all worried….
From Dempster to Greinke to Bautista to talk of Buddy Carlyle.
Any chance Crash Davis contract can be acquired from Durham?
July 27th, 20125:05 pm
You mean Kubel.
no idea Brian, not been keeping up the last few days. had to go off for a funeral of a friend.
They’ll stay in the talks for starters till the end. They aren’t going to shut off all of the other teams with an asset they could use just because they aren’t liking the prices right now. There is still 4 days left until the deadline.
July 27th, 20125:06 pm
Meds may be able to go 5 in his first start, but I doubt it. Longest he has pitched this year is 4 in AAA and that was a while ago.
CTB- yeh, that guy. Most dangerous looking hitter I’ve seen this year in the NL.
Joe in SoCal
July 27th, 20125:07 pm
When did we become the Sanford and Sons of baseball? Every time some over the hill player is released Wren thinks its some kind of “diamond” in the rough deal. Only he can see the true value and it doesn’t cost us a thing! Except a chance at the playoffs.
Should be more about pitch count than innings.:)
July 27th, 20125:08 pm
This home stand will decide if we are going to have a chance at post season. We probably should win 7 out of 10 considering the competion but I will be surprised if we can do that well but lets go Braves. And finally lets give Medlen his due and let him start a couple of games and go from there. I’m crossing my fingers for Sheets tonight and hope that he can get his breaking pitch working like old times and if he can it might be lights out for the Phillies.
I swear I would NOT sign Dempster AT ALL especially not for Delgado..
Ryan Dempster considers Braves
Updated: July 27, 2012, 4:41 PM ET
By Bruce Levine | ESPNChicago.com
CHICAGO — The Los Angeles Dodgers are not the only team Chicago Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster would accept a trade to, according to a source familiar with the situation.
Dempster will consider a number of teams, including the Atlanta Braves and Dodgers, if the Cubs come to him with a deal in place, the source said.
“He has not said that he wouldn’t go to Atlanta or anywhere else for that matter,” the source said. “He wants to take his time and has earned the right to wait on approving a deal having his 10-5 rights.”

Reports surfaced Monday that the Cubs and Braves agreed to a trade of Dempster for 22-year-old pitcher Randall Delgado, pending the approval of the Cubs pitcher, who has veto power on any trade. Dempster said he wanted to take his time before making a decision on any trade.
But Braves general manager Frank Wren told an Atlanta radio station on Wednesday that they are “moving on” from a Dempster deal, and he said Dempster wants to land with the Dodgers and his good friend and former Cubs teammate Ted Lilly.
“In his case, from my understanding, and I’m only getting it secondhand from the Cubs, they had a meeting with him a couple of weeks ago and laid it out and that the primary two suitors were us and the Dodgers,” Wren said on 680-AM The Fan. “He had positive things to say about both, but he had a slight preference to the Dodgers because of Ted Lilly. He and Ted Lilly are best of friends, and he’d like to go play with his friend. I think there were also some personal issues that suited better for him.”
A trade with the Braves still could resurface if Dempster chooses to waive his veto rights and accept a deal; however, Atlanta took its deal off the table on Tuesday.
The Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, Dodgers and Braves were on Dempster’s original list for consideration, according to another source. The Washington Nationals have also shown some interest but have not made an offer for Dempster. Washington will sit down young ace Stephen Strasburg at some point around his160-inning mark and will need a veteran starter to plug in for him.
The Dodgers have had an offer on the table since July 19 for Dempster. The Cubs would like the Dodgers’ top prospect, right-handed pitcher Zach Lee, added in the deal, according to sources. That may have caused a stalemate between the two sides. The Cubs continue to seek young pitching and third-base prospects in talks with other teams.
Dempster is owed a pro-rated amount, close to $5 million, of the $14 million he is making in the final year of his contract.
I’m sorry for your loss nolie.
July 27th, 20125:09 pm
don’t count out the cardinals and the pirates for the wild card
CABRAVESFAN, and just how long do you think he will stay in Gwinnett? He will be up before you know it. He fits right in Fredi G’s plans.
July 27th, 20125:10 pm
The Braves can go 0-10 in their next ten games and still make the playoffs. I mean, some folks here think the Phillies are ripe for .714 baseball over the next 60+ games so if they can do it, why not us?
July 27th, 20125:12 pm
Benny (Norcross, GA): Scouting report on JR Graham? Coming out of Livermore HS and Santa Clara university, all I remember hearing about that he has a maximum effort deliver, and profiled more as a Relief pitcher prospect than a Starting pitcher. Has he smoothed out his mechanics?
Jim Shonerd: Scouts who’ve seen him this year thought he was doing it pretty easily, so his delivery’s not that much a concern from an effort standpoint. He’s got a good chance to stick as a starter, as he can pitch in the mid-90s, has a solid slider and has made progress with his changeup.
July 27th, 20125:13 pm
I agree about the pitch count over number of innings, but unless he has a few 10 pitch or less innings, I can’t see him going past 4 innings, regardless (in other words, I suspect his pitch count would be no more than 60-75 pitches that first time out)

Considering where he was earlier this season, it’s neat to think that that’s “down” from the last time I saw you post the Last Nine…
Now that’s really weird. I had to be gone for a few days for a funeral also. Thought all the time NOLIE was probably missing my valuable input. Wouldn’t it be weird if it was the same funeral.
July 27th, 20125:16 pm
Sorry you had to be at a funeral…
nolie: some folks around here were thinking you were at your own funeral…glad you weren’t.
July 27th, 20125:17 pm
Gwinnett had Julio Teheran listed to start Sunday, but now all their starters are listed TBA. Sunday is Gilmartin’s rotation turn as well.
July 27th, 20125:18 pm
Peter Gammons reporting Ted Lilly told Dempster he would be a Dodger by Tuesday.
We need to boo the H out Lilly and Dempster when they come here.
The way the little guy throws strikes, he could possibly go 6, if he’s on. But yeh, 60-70 pitches sounds about right.
Now, looks like the perfect time to trade Hanson.

Julio to Seattle for King Felix
Escobar has been scratched. #BlueJays
Makes a ton of sense for Oakland. I’m rooting for them. Would be a great story if they won one of the two wild card spots. Yoenis Cespedes is fun to watch with that big arse swing of his and Jarrod Parker is also a shorter starter who can rev it up there in the mid-90’s.
thank you all
July 27th, 20125:25 pm
Why in the world would Seattle do that? It’s so insane on so many levels.
July 27th, 20125:26 pm
nolie, glad you’re back – I needed you the last few days.
Sorry for your loss.

Talking Chop @gondeee
I wonder if the Braves will re-demote Jurrjens, hence the TBA starters at Gwinnett. Gosh I hope that’s not what Miguel Batista is for.
Jon Morosi @jonmorosi
Mild interest in #Mariners secondary relievers: Kelley, Kinney, Delabar. Brandon League more likely to be dealt.
Jon Morosi @jonmorosi
Escobar scratched with lower back tightness, per @Chris_Toman and @ShiDavidi.
dont be stupid people,,,the sign of Bautista is for help G-Braves in August and the call up him in September for rest the bullpen in meaningless games (like blow games)
July 27th, 20125:29 pm
Obviously it wouldn’t just be Julio. Seattle though is stacked with pitchers Danny Hultzen, Taijuan Walker, and James Paxton all probably about a year away.. It’s a shame Atlanta doesn’t have any position player prospects as even if we were to deal with them, and he were avaliable thats probably what they would be looking for.
July 27th, 20125:30 pm
Phillies GM on this series vs ATL: “We have to play well against these guys. They’re a very tough team. We don’t necessarily have to sweep ‘em. But it’s important for us to win the series”.
They will give us all they got. Braves better not be all relaxed and think they can coast in these three games. Give it to them, just like they gave to to us that last series back in Sept.
July 27th, 20125:31 pm
well, ok. if you are gonna guarantee us that Bautista ain’t gonna be in no August games….
July 27th, 20125:32 pm
if the braves decide dont trade for Greinke or other pitcher, i see the braves moving Medlen to the rotation and trading for a reliever …
Scott Hairston is a good solution for bench and maybe call up Mejia ,,and when Wilson back DFA
July 27th, 20125:38 pm
don’t forget that call ups now cost about 80thou per month now days. prolly aren’t gonna be all that many
July 27th, 20125:43 pm
Watch Wren pull off a trade with Philly for Joe Blanton and call it a day on the search for a viable SP. just what exactly are the Braves supposed to do with Batista? He doesn’t even belong on a non-contenders roster let alone a team in the hunt. It’s one thing to take a gamble on a reclamation project like Sheets, but Batista offers nothing. The Braves really don’t have any money to spend.
Rob From SC
July 27th, 20125:45 pm
Maybe they signed Bautista to fill a SP need in Gwinnett because they are going to trade Delgado or Teheran..
July 27th, 20125:46 pm
Rob read my 5:03 post…Batista is in AA Miss
July 27th, 20125:48 pm
“The Braves really don’t have any more to spend”
Well, Liberty Media DOES have money to spend, they just won’t ALLOW the Braves to spend it on such a frivolous thing as a mere baseball team.
Kris, check out Rob’s post, Batista is a temporary filler in AAA for that young starter about to be traded. This makes sense.
July 27th, 20125:49 pm
Sorry to hear about your friend.
How the hell did we offer Delgado plus for Dempster.
Oh Wren, I am a fan but this is terrible.
July 27th, 20125:50 pm
Honestly if we aren’t going to get a 1 or 2 type starter then I’d rather just plug Medlen into the rotation and find a long reliever to take his spot. Grienke, Felix, Johnson and Shields are looking more and more like they aren’t going to happen, so why bother with dealing prospects for a back of the rotation starter – because with the exception of Huddy (who’s a solid #2) we have a rotation full of 3’s and 4’s. What we need is an Ace.
Wow, we found 2 Terrace 208 seats for $10 each! StubHub rocks!
July 27th, 20125:51 pm
Sorry for your loss
Yeah Rob! Can’t you read.
July 27th, 20125:52 pm
nolie, condolences your way….
July 27th, 20125:53 pm
I’m sure this has been asked – but (1) isn’t Medlen a top of the rotation starter (maybe a 2 or 3)? And so (2) wouldn’t it make sense to look for a reliever to fill his role and put him in the rotation? I’ve seen nothing but good from him, very impressed. I’ve been puzzled as to why he’s in the pen.
What do they play for Ben? Nights in white satin or maybe dancing in the sheets
July 27th, 20125:54 pm
But wait, if they’re trading a player and Batista is the replacement (as some suggest), why’d they release Junge? He’s younger (36).
Ironically enough I’m excited so far by the Braves trade deadline moves. No seriously, keep Delgado and Teheran, get a bullpen guy and a bench bat, and move Medlen to the rotation.
July 27th, 20125:55 pm
I think it was Delgado even up Rob. not Delgado +. still not a good deal unless they got an extension
July 27th, 20125:56 pm
DOB or someone else…can somebody tell me what time the gates open on Saturday and what time Braves BP would be? Thanks in advance…first game at Turner Field. Mostly get to the Braves at Wrigley and Busch.
July 27th, 20125:57 pm
On Braves.com it said Delgado plus
July 27th, 20125:59 pm
Only Braves – I wouldn’t go counting any unhatced Mopylans quite yet. Maybe he’s ready and comes back to Moylanesque form, maybe he doesn’t – it;s yet to be determined. In the meantime, Carlyle has pitched well enough to merit a chance. If Peter comes back and can do better, then more power to him, but he isn’t ready and Buddy is.
Not as if we’ve got much going for us with Martinez and Varvaro right now. I just see no good reason NOT to see what Buddy has left in the tank. He’s paid his dues at Gwinnett and has looked good doing it.
did not see that, but I have seen several stories at ESPN and elsewhere that said straight up trade. who knows, but i am not a big Bowman fan. he often makes mistakes IMO
Sorry, JUAN, but everything I just read says Batista is in Gwinnett, AAA. Wikipedia, and two other news sources say that. One even quotes FG as saying he would be assigned to Gwinnett. He’s not showing up on either roster yet, so who really knows?
July 27th, 20126:00 pm
even if Moylan comes back fine, he is still a limited pitcher
Batista was assigned to Gwinnett…..Still amazed that people think we dont need a starter when we’re 14th in the NL
#Braves signed Batista to a minor league contract. He’ll be assigned to Gwinnett.
July 27th, 20126:02 pm
with their luv for vets it does not mean that Bastista will stay there depending on what else happens
July 27th, 20126:06 pm
Phew Im Glad Batista Is A Minor League Filler….
July 27th, 20126:08 pm
It may not be cools, but I am a bit worried about the Philly series….
July 27th, 20126:10 pm
I’ll bet the Braves end up with Correia from the Pirates
July 27th, 20126:14 pm
Phillies will win this series.
July 27th, 20126:15 pm
UNCBrave – given Wren’s track record of underwhelming trades I would not be surprised if they do end up trading for Correia.
NO MORE FREDI
July 27th, 20126:16 pm
Call me crazy but I smell some Phillies revenge coming this series.
underwhelming trades? Really?
I wonder what this “just in case” means?
Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Batista ”is going to add some depth for us, just in case.” Gonzalez says Batista will be assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett.
