youre saying the braves shouldnt “go for it” because of chipper.
i think they should “go for it” because of chipper, but not because of his personal benefit. chipper leaving at the end of the year is a big blow to this team. this year, with chipper might be one of our best chances for a little bit. go for it.
of course, im always a guy who says “go for it”. ive been annoyed with the braves at many a trade deadline.

I agree. I would even go as far as giving Teheren the nod now. I’ve read reports on him struggling in AAA because he’s been trying to fine tune his offspead pitches (curve especially). In his last spot start here, his curve was excellent, and he did pretty well. Give him another shot… maybe the kid needs to face MLB hitters to find success this year.

I don’t know, man. It’s 12 months in March. 12 months for Beachy in late June. I don’t think we’ll see those two 100% until March of 2014.

With the off day Thursday, I would skip his spot in the rotation. Sheets Friday on 5 days rest, Minor Saturday on 4 days rest…

If the rumors are true, the price for Garza was already higher than Dempster, even for the Dodgers… So that doesn’t change much for Frank.

Why should Wren re-negotiate with the Cubs? Wren would have to get Dempster now for a bargain basement price to make it worth it.
Dempster’s indicated he’d rather pitch for L.A. Earlier, it was reported that he would accept a trade but left it open to negotiate a new contract with the Cubs post-season.
Eight weeks of Dempster for a top prospect pitcher and another minor leaguer?
I wouldn’t pay the price.

Why would we have to start JJ? Not really seeing the true reason. Weren’t we told at the first of the season about all of this pitching depth we had? Something like 8 or 9 deep?

OK Braves, admit you made a mistake with Uggla. Try and trade him asap even if you have to pay a large portion of his salary the next 3 years. Move Prado to second base (his best position) and leave him there. Then this winter look for a solid third baseman and left fielder. Uggla, please at least make contact with the ball even if it is a slow dribbler to third base. Why does every swing have to be a home run swing? Watch Chipper’s easy, smooth swings.

If the Dempster deal had worked, fine.
But dammit, we have been talking about all this young pitching talent, and just when a couple of them start to show signs of progress at the MLB level, we panic because JJ can’t pitch anymore, and start talking about dealing them for rentals.
I say it’s sink or swim time, boys. Throw ‘em in the freakin’ deep end and see what happens.

I’m not opposed to that, either. No law that says you can’t get back a prospect and a ML guy, too. I doubt any trade would be just two ML players, anyway; just aren’t that many guys who are each perfectly valued and who are available from trade partners. there’s always some prospect balancing going on.
But gotta get Willingham some way, you know.

Delgado is eligible to come up 10 days after he was sent down to AAA, not including his Saturday start. That 10 days should be coming up soon, I think.

The Braves optioned Delgado to Gwinnett on July 15th. So he should be eligible to come back Thursday, I guess.

My hope is that the Braves steer clear of any possible trades for starting pitchers. Sink or swim with our young guys. If we sink, that’s okay. We’ll have more money to get pieces during the winter. I can live without going to the playoffs this year. No biggie.

Frank Wren has to wave the trade white flag. He needs too many pieces to justify a serious playoff run. He needs at least one starter, a legit RH LF bat, the SS position is injured, the 3B has health reliability issues, the 2B has suddenly forgotten how to hit (he has McLouth-oma), the bullpen is sketchy (save for the closer), and the bench is an abject joke.
Honestly, would you gamble your future on THAT many question marks?

Uggla does hustle – always plays hard, but his refusal to to make contact instead of swinging for the fences every time is frustrating. Right now, the team needs him hitting, not a home run every 20 at bats.

I think conditioning is a lot of the problem for JJ and TH….
They just basically look out of shape….baggy uniforms, slight double chins, doughy.
And there are others who are simply fat, only one of whom it doesn’t yet totally drag down.

Dan doesn’t have a swing, he has a sling. He just slings his arms as hard as he can and hopes he hit’s it. You can’t adjust a sling any more than you can adjust a catapult. You just crank it up and let it fly.

Pace, Uggla is swinging the same way he’s swung his entire life. He’s having mechanical problems, but he’s not being mentally stubborn about anything. Sounds like you’re wanting him to entirely change the way he swings a bat after thousands of professional plate appearances.

Seriously, you guys are right. Uggs just needs to make contact. When he was hitting earlier this year, he was just putting the bat on the ball and going oppo. Last year, too.
If he can’t break out of it tomorrow vs. Nolasco (slugging .786 in last 14 AB’s vs Nolasco dating back to last year), then there’s no hope.
