you know what you are getting with Greinke, you have no idea with the young guys. Trade one of them, you still have two left. If they think they can afford it, they should do it as long as he is here mostly as long as the traded youngster would have been

What do we think the Braves net Liberty Media each season? After all bills are paid. What’s left for their bottom line?

We’ll never know. To quote John Malone. the Braves “are a convenient piece in the Liberty resume”

heard somewhere of the last 435 pitchers that the Orioles have drafted only one has won more then 15 games in a season in the show

I was thinking about that earlier. Of all MLB teams, what is the success rate of draft to MLB? Is there a site that gives that percentage.

Memphis, July 26th, 2012, 4:57 pm … “Teheran has had opportunities in Atlanta and cant even get out of the 4th or 5th inning. “

Teheran is a young, talented 21 year old who’s hit a bump in the road.

“Delgado is 4-10 with an ERA of 4.50.”

1997 … Tom Glavine … 2-4 … 5.54

” The Braves signed Minor cause he was “signable” . “

You’re thinking about Gilmartin. He’s Signable. Minor is Polished. Easy mistake to make.

I still have my reservations about moving either Delgado or Minor even for Grienke. My inclination is to make them untouchable for ANY kind of a rental.

Face it, if the Braves get Grienke, it is likely to be a rental, no way the Braves sign him long term unless Liberty Media increases the roll to $125 million and that is not happening.

We cannot afford a Number One pitcher in his prime … Its that simple. Only way we get a Number One is if we develop one. And he will be gone when its his time to get paid.

Wren should talk, and should keep an open mind on all fronts, but anyone who thinks that Grienke is more than a rental is facing disappointment.

Also note that at times both Minor and Delgado are helping the Braves right now. Teheran, he has had struggles in AAA but its too early to tell on him.

And I am SO SO glad the Dumpster rumor fell through —- Screw Dumpster and hope he has a rotten end of his career. He is a BUMB. I hope he stays in the N.L.. and Braves fans Boom him to no end when he shows up here & the Braves rock him out of the box with 8 ER and 12 hits next time Dumpster shows his ass at the Ted.

I hate the BUMB. Some act like he is Bob Gibson in his prime — he ain’t.

Delgado was too much to give for him anyway.

you can start with the fact that 40% of all first round picks never get to the majors at all, and that is the most successful round;the rest go down with each round. On top of that pitchers have a much lower success rate than position players do.
The odds are very high against each draftee. The ones who are successful and move up the ladder acquire better odds, but there are still a lot of examples of AA and AAA players who end up much less than expected.
I know there is a site or two that covers that but I do not have a link any more

I guess it depends on what happens in the next week, but I do think it makes sense to put Tommy Hanson out there this winter. Just need to get two solid months out of him and have him finish the season out and not the DL like last year. Understandably, with the lack of future pitching we see, it’s concerning to trade Hanson – but given his decreased velocity, it’d make sense to see what we can get for him now with three years of control left.

Ben Sheets is going to mow down the Fils. That is the one spot-on, lock-down call you can hang your hat on this weekend. If Sheets can twirl seven, Venters and Kimbrel will take care of the rest.

Why Fredi is being so cryptic is beyond me. Make the obvious move: sh!t-can JJ to Gwinnett and make Medlen the starter. Keep Hanson on a short leash. If he is going to do his annual second half swoon, replace him with Delgado, who will be your starter for the next four years or so.

Save some big money by non-tendering JJ and Hanson, and let the kids come up and show what they have. Another year of Hudson, see what Sheets wants, keep Minor in the fold, ditto Medlen, and have the youngsters fight it out for the fifth spot until Beachy returns in August, which is like a 2013 mid-season trade.

Why are our people so stupid!?

Melvin said he has not had formal negotiations with Greinke about a contract extension since Spring Training, meaning last week’s report that the Brewers had extended a five-year offer in excess of $100 million — a report Greinke himself confirmed — was slightly inaccurate. More likely, Melvin and Greinke’s agent, Casey Close, informally discussed parameters of a potential deal, and the Greinke camp decided the sides’ expectations were too far apart. Greinke is on a path to reach free agency for the first time.

I’ve got no beef with Dempster; it’s just not practical for him to be here for some pretty legitimate family reasons. That said, I do not want 9 starts from a guy whose mind and heart are on the other side of the country. I do not like pitchers like Greinke & Burnett who cannot handle the pressure of winning baseball – which speaks to some pretty head-case-type character issues (yeah, I wanna make FAT money but screw around in the second division like the loser I am and feed on other losers less talented than I). Garza is an inconsistent joke not worth the time of day.

Everybody needs to know that it’s possible Wren doesn’t get a SP. Very possible imo. Greinke and Shields are really the only two guys I can see Wren having a shot at right now and both will require some heavy duty prospects in return. Even if MIL and ATL agree on a deal for Greinke, apparantly Wren wants an extension of some kind to keep him around considering the prospects you know will have to be in a deal.

By the way, after seeing Bourn run down some lo-o-o-o-o-ong bombs in the spacious national park that is the Marlins Park OF, the more I think that with him patrolling CF for the next five years, young pitchers will fall in love with him. My focus is on his ability to get on base, steal bases, manufacture runs, and track down baseballs with the best of them. Very hard to find a combo like that in the majors playing CF. I strongly feel that his skill set will allow him to safely produce optimally for the next five seasons, if not more.

If Wren does not acquire a starting pitcher then he is throwing the towel in on this season. 14th in the NL in starters ERA and your in a playoff hunt and dont acquire a starting pitcher, then your throwing in the towel for the season. It’s not like we have the Yankees offense and can get by with subpar pitching like we have experienced so far this season. I think Wren knows he has pressure on him to win and win now, Wren WILL acquire a starting pitcher of some kind by Tuesday, right now its just a matter of who. With Chipper’s last season and the possibility of Bourn not being a Brave next season look for Wren to go all in on at least one big name player.

I know you and I both thought that Luria & Samson, the crooks and owners of the Marlins would try to have a winning year or two in their new stadium and then find a buyer to cash in on MLB and the tax payers of Miami.

But what do you think they’re up to now having a salary purge with 60 games to play? I guess they’re just too cheap to pay salaries when they’re not in first place. But then again, the Marlins have never won the NL East. Everything they ever did in the post season has been from the Wild Card.

Here’s another sign that they’ll also dump Josh Johnson, something the Braves should check out.
