If Dempster wants to be close to Vancouver, the Cubs should trade him for King Felix. Then we can trade Delgado for King Felix. Simple. Problem solved.

Seems to me that it’s the Cubs who are screwed. Wren should pull the deal. If Cubs have to come crawling back, we should surely offer less. In the mean time, move on, and try to work out the next option.

why not just send him to AAA? if braves release him, they still have to pay him.
Either way they would have to pay him. So if he goes to AAA, that would be saying they still have plans for him. If that’s the case, then fine. But at this moment, his value is at a low ebb. Right now he is taking a spot on the 40-man roster.

Unless a reporter is saying something is definite, it’s hard to blame them for reporting what they hear from sources within the game. People should be smart enough to not believe things are a definite until they actually happen. I honestly don’t think Rosenthal, Heyman, etc. make up stuff just to stir the pot and make money.

When Canstanza was in left and Pastornicky was playing short the braves were ten games over five hundred and in first place. When Chipper decided he wanted to play again it took the speed out of the lineup.
So Chipper out…. Prado to 3rd and Constanza to LF… and we’ll start winning again!! Gotcha!!

Think about the rejections. The Braves usually don’t spend money in free agency, but I have to wonder if it’s their choice. How many of the starting 8 have come her via free agency? They are all either home grown or come via a trade, pretty much forced to come to ATL.
I know Mc and Uggla both signed extensions, so that’s a positive I guess.

Actually, according to at least one ATL writer, Dempster told some Braves players when the Cubs were last in town that he would like to play for the Braves. I would say that report would not have been made had the ATL writer not spoken to Braves players who indeed had the conversation with Dempster.
Like many here, I have no problem with Dempster not wanting to come to ATL, but to publicly say you would like to come to ATL then back out, is a waste of EVERYONE’S time and efforts!
Wren should pull the offer and move on. This feels too much like Derek Lowe after the Furcal fiasco. When you deal on the rebound from a feeling of desperation, odds are you will make a bad deal.

I am wondering if the issue with Dempster is that he told Cubs management he prefers Dodgers so try to work that deal out first prior to the deadline, still about a week away, and if that doesn’t work out he would accept a trade to Braves. So with the time still remaining until deadline, he felt blindsided by the news that he had been “traded” when Cubs had told him they would try to work a deal with Dodgers. Pure speculation mind you, but makes the most sense and doesn’t make Dempster look like an A-hole.

D.O.B your wrong by saying Ugglas latest slump are tou watching every game because he has been in a slump since day one. Nolan Ryan called out Hamilton wish someone had balls to call out Uggla. Thats not the way Braves do things might hurt his feelings. Watch Marlins hit and run again tonight ask Freddi what the hell is a hit and run he would say runner on first and two outs and 3-2 count we might send runner. FIRE HIS ASS.

I will say it again……Delgado is too much to give up for a 35 year old pitcher. No wonder the Cubbies jumped on the deal. Bad deal unless Dempster is resigned and can pitch well for the next 5 years….both of which I doubt will happen. This time next year, when Delgado is winning in Chicago…and Dempster is pitching in LA……the Braves will regret this move if and when it happens. Anyone remember those young players we sent to Texas? The Braves are still regretting that terrible trade just to win that year. Imagine…..if he still had Salty (having a great year in Boston and would have developed into good trade bait on his own), Harrison (all star pitcher this year), Andrus (all star shortstop for two years), and the other pitcher (injured but outstanding for Texas for 3 years in a row). I think the Cub fans are praying that Dempster approves this trade. Holy Cow.

Something’s not right about this Dempster deal. Wouldn’t be surprised if the Cubs leaked the deal in order to get the Dodgers to better their offer. I would rather keep Delgado for 5+ years than get Dempster for a few months and have him sign with a west coast team in 2013. Wake up Braves management.

If Dempster indeed shot the Braves deal down because he prefers to go elsewhere, then anyone who sees this as anything other than a two month rental is misguided. If the deal did materialize, it seems Dempster would be looking for a new home on the West coast just as soon as the Braves season is over.

I don’t fault Braves for making Uggla deal. It looked great when made However, I do fault them for doing NOTHING when he’s been terrible since he’s been here I see no changes. He just goes up there and swings as hard as he can. He usually grounds out to second, pops out, or strikes out Bench him and have people work with him If he refuses bench him and play anyone ANyone is better

Just read where Dempster doesn’t want to be a Brave. I wouldn’t have minded having him, but I think the Braves need to move on from him and turn their attention to Greinke. I am down on this team big time right now for obvious reasons. I will watch them the rest of the season and see how they finish then pass judgment on them at that time.
Tired of watching them fall on their face when you know they are capable of much better. Not saying that a starting pitcher will put them at the next level, but if you are going to get one, get one that wants to be here.

The team should focus on the bullpen and bench bats… 1 SP isn’t going to make a whole lot of difference.
Say they do get Dempster, or Greinke, or whoever… They are basically trading for 8 starts. That’s it. Now, knowing what we know about the offense, I’d say that any starter would be lucky to get enough run support to win maybe 5 of those games. Take that number and chop another win or two from it because the pitcher had a bad night and you’re looking at trading for 3 or 4 wins.
Is Delgado and his multiple years of team control worth trading for 4 wins this season?

Really… I think it helps the Dodgers! If thats the only team that Demp is willing to go to then wouldn’t it cause the Dodgers to pay less? The only decision the Cubs have to make is if they’d rather keep him. I don’t think the possible draft picks would be in play because if the Cubs offer dempster a contract then he’s going to sign it… Everything I’ve read about Demp in the past says he loves it in Chicago!!

Garza for Delgado I could live with. Garza’s 28 and very consistent. Not an ace, but a solid middle-of-the-rotation guy who will consistently throw around 200 innings. So basically, he’s already what we hope Delgado will turn out to be.
This year aside, Garza is a better pitcher than Dempster.

Bigger question is with Hudson’s foot staying connected to his ankle, Hanson being more consistant, Sheets holding up and Minor continuing to develop in this 2nd half and hopefully into the playoffs.
If at LEAST two of these things do not happen, whatever a starter like Dempster, or whoever, might not matter near as much as some like to think.
Not even including some streaky hitters and some holes in that pen.

Just in from MLBTradeRumors.com : 12:43pm: “Dempster doesn’t want to be traded to the Braves right now, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports. Instead, the right-hander hopes to be dealt to the Dodgers. While the Dodgers had interest in Dempster and were considered by some to be the favorites to acquire him, they didn’t reach an agreement with the Cubs. Chicago would lose leverage with the Dodgers if Dempster rejects a trade to the Braves, his second choice.”

This is Garza’s fifth full season. Every year, his ERA has been between 3.32 and 3.95. The Braves need consistency like that.

Totally agree, Brian. I really don’t think there’s a good reason that big-league pitchers can’t square up a fastball. I can understand looking ridiculous on stuff with a wrinkle, but 90 and straight? C’mon.

One fact remains…had the Braves starting pitchers done what everyone thought they would, the Braves would not be in this predicament of having to try to trade for a starter. They could instead be trying to acquire a powerbat and relief help. But Beachy is out, Hudson was hurt and is still a little shaky, Hanson and Jurrjens have regressed. Minor and Delgado both needed a bit more seasoning at AAA. So instead of the solid and top-notch rotation, we have a questionable one. I am glad I am not the GM.
