Patrick for GM.Fire that tool box Wren.
This isn’t the NBA. Why do folks not understand this? It isn’t a sign and trade. You trade Julio Teheran for Greinke – it’s for August and September and playoff starts if you make it. That’s it. The compensation for Greinke is the 100 million you’ll pay him 2013-2017…Efrim
just not the way it is thought of, but I’m not gonna argue with you about it
July 24th, 20126:45 pm
trade ugglas over paid ass…the highest paid 2nd baseman but by far the worst second baseman…uggla SUX period
The Braves’ mediocraty and national notarity is un pair of L’d.

CHIPPER JONES on Dempster trade situation:
“People have got to want to come here. But it’s not over. I’m sure that when you’ve been in one spot for a really long time, being traded is a big adjustment, and there’s more than just the business of baseball at hand. You’ve earned the right as a 10-and-5 guy to pick and choose where you go. And family becomes a big part of the decision-making process. The fact that we’re in the Southeast and we train in Florida, all that stuff is a factor. So, bottom line is Ryan is going to make the best decision for him and his family. And if decides that he doesn’t want to come here, then that’s just something that we’re going to have to deal with and move on.
“These trades just don’t happen overnight. There’s days and days and weeks and weeks of communication between the two sides to try and get something done by a specific deadline. We were led to believe that this could happen, which is why we put the effort into it. Now it seems like that might not be the case. It puts Frank in a tough spot, but that’s why they pay Frank the big bucks. He’s got to have Plan B through D. I’m sure that if Ryan decides to stay in Chicago or go someplace else, Frank will have something on the back burner.”
no wren that is not the negative side…the negative side is that now MR. RYAN (next greg maddux) DEMPSTER will only have 9 starts left this season….so our brailess GM are still hoping for this happend …oh oh OH NO I’m fellin this chest pain again….and my left arm to….oh no noooooo
So you give praise to all fan bases that sell out games while a team is in 1st place?
Brilliant. Pure brilliant…although that pretty much sums up the Bandwagon, not the fan base.
Nats fans are excited, there’s nothing wrong with that, they draft 1st every year to get their talent…….you know what that comes with? Years in the toilet. Applaud them all you want.
have you had one of those before frickasee never mind don’t share that with us
“Well, it certainly seems that the Braves have lost their luster as a top tier destination for A list players.”
that happened a LONG time ago. Many top tier players have been traded here and chose to leave
Hell…. Farnsworth chose to go set up MoRivera in NY, rather than be our closer.
and Bourn will soon follow. If Sheets has a monster 2nd half (while awesome for us), he too will likely leave for greener pastures.
Once Ted sold the Braves and the 90’s stars started leaving, the players just haven’t been as excited to become and remain Braves.
If Ted Turner still owned the Braves and was opening his checkbook up to players, I honestly believe that Tex would still be a Brave.
July 24th, 20126:47 pm
Prognostication Column; DOB’s Next venture…. Bash Uggla for getting on-base, Cry to Wren to Purchase Dempster the Dumpster, and Forget about Medlin, only Mention Mike Minor as an Afterthought, and NEVER Talk about any Obvious LAck of Strategy from Gonzo.. That would be Politically Incorrect. After All This is a SPorts Column… To Bring Up STRATEGY or LACK thereof, would not make any Sense whatsoever.. Let’s just Consume ourselves with Fantacizing about Gaining Super-Humanness out of Mediocrity on the Trade-market hotline to Chicago… Which by my Last Check the Cubs ar 17 gmaes out of First,,, With that Awesome Rotation… yeah.
July 24th, 20126:48 pm
July 24th, 20126:49 pm
Just keep running them out there Fredi, the season will be over before we know it then you and Frank can start the hype all over again. I know Fran is going to love this team as it is and will stand pat for 2013.
5 mins ago on MLB TV…Dempster said he didn’t want to play for Braves, he wishes to be a Dodger.
Damn Wren Move on!
July 24th, 20126:51 pm
gonzo has forgotten more baseball strategy than you know blustering lee
we should trade for francoeur to give us someone else in the outfield and another bat, play prado everyday at either of, 2b, ss, or 3b (hell maybe even be our 5th man in the rotation), and then we should call up teheran and maybe trade for a good reliever.
July 24th, 20126:52 pm
So, I guess if it’s 3:30pm EST on Tuesday afternoon – Wren will still trade Delgado for Dempster. Sigh….
July 24th, 20126:53 pm
For everyone saying to trade Uggla or just cut him….do you really think that’s going to happen? Do the Braves seem like a team that can pay a guy $26 million over the next two years to play somewhere else? Come on, get a clue.
July 24th, 20126:54 pm
Laughing at the guy who said Dempster is the next Greg Maddux.
Greg Maddux was Greg Maddux when he was 22-36 years old. Dempster is 35 now and has had ONE season w/an ERA under 3.00.
Just look at the Nationals and Werth. They overpaid and he sucks and isn’t worth the money, but that’s landed them a lot of other players, a sell out a night fan base and national notarity. _ Patrick
Yep, Washington is kicking Atlanta’s ass in attendance by ……………………… 250 per game
Holy Moly, that would pay for half of a minimum salary guy.
July 24th, 20126:55 pm
what does Maddux have to do with Dempster?
Report: Ryan Dempster Holding Out for Trade to Los Angeles Dodgers (UPDATE: Dempster Weighing Options) | Bleacher Nation | Chicago Cubs News, Rumors, and Commentary
July 24th, 20126:56 pm
[...] 16 (at 5:54pm CT): Interesting comments from Chipper Jones, via Dave O’Brien: “People have got to want to come here. But it’s not over. I’m sure [...]
Delgado is too big a piece to give up for a 2 month rental. If Dempster does not want to be here, move on.
Our Best Hope IS That Ryan Dempster Gets Traded To The Dodgers Soon…
N8 @6:46 – That is so true, corporate ownership has turned us into just another team.
We were something special when Ted was around, even when the Braves were losing in the late 70’s and 80’s we could get players when we wanted them.
We were special with the Superstation, an owner not shy about spending and a growing city where people really wanted to go to.
Its not like that anymore. It could be worse but it could be so much better.
Live on memories of the 90’s
When Ted lost his boardroom fight at TW that was the end of the Braves as we once knew them.
Dam Liberty Media move on.
Yeah, Francoeur, that’s what this team needs. Great call.
July 24th, 20126:57 pm
This team needs some pep. Let’s get Frenchy back.
July 24th, 20126:58 pm
I’d just assume pass on Dumpster and go to another option.
Did not like the deal anyway.
I hope we Boo Dumpster next time he shows up as an opposing pitcher. Heckle him too. Give him hell.
July 24th, 20126:59 pm
Is Frenchy A Frotline Bat?
I dont think people here realize that we are in a “win-now” mindset. Its Chippers last season, probably Bourns, and Bmac has one more. Uggla isnt getting younger or better. Sometimes you have to give away a good piece in order to get a decent return. Frank knows the market better than anyone here. I do think he needs to put a timeline on his offer if he hasnt already done so.
July 24th, 20127:00 pm
choppity choppity you kill me..are you a comedian
July 24th, 20127:01 pm
Uggla will be here for at least 2 more yrs, that is the way it is.
Only way you move Uggla is to move him for a similar contract and player who is going bad but was good. That is doable. .
Good Huddy, or the one dodging bullets back at him?
Wren needs to talk to Rays about James Shields, Jeff Keppinger and BJ upton. Those three and Braves would be set for play-offs, WS.
July 24th, 20127:02 pm
Just make correspondingly lower offers for every day it gets closer to the deadline if another deal isn’t in place… if Dempster takes until the end of the month to decide, just tell the Cubs that they can have a 62nd round draft pick,,, say in 2020?
July 24th, 20127:03 pm
You cannot make a guy come here if he does not want to.
Big carrot on the Dodgers is you have fresh owership who is baseball dedicated and fresh cash.
The $$$$$$$$ are the main thing and $$$$$$$$$$ talks, so LAD is a better magnet then here.
I don’t know if anybody just saw the Wren interview, but he said the market for starters is slim. Didn’t sound too confident in acquiring Dempster. Also said they’re looking for a bat off the bench.
thought i had 7 minutes to waste nolie
July 24th, 20127:04 pm
Can’t believe fans want Conrad and Frenchy back….damn ! How about Lowe, KK and Nate…how stupid
July 24th, 20127:05 pm
Seems to me that other teams willing to sell their starters are asking for the moon. Wren has found the perfect partner (in his mind’s eye) in Chicago and Dempster. Basically, it’s a one-for-one trade for a starter that he probably won’t even try to re-sign for 2013 and beyond.
So, it becomes a question of philosophy and assessment. Do you mortgage your future (Delgado) for two months and 9-10 starts on a playoff gambit when your team has shown that it cannot hit consistently to make a deep playoff run?
If I am a GM, my answer is a flat NO!
Steve from OH
July 24th, 20127:06 pm
Does anyone really think the Cubs will actually let Dempster pitch tomorrow if they haven’t reached a deal yet? I don’t.
It would be so awesome to see Clutch and Frenchy back. Hard to believe we didn’t win multiple World Series pennants with those two. Let’s have a do-over.
July 24th, 20127:07 pm
Braves are not the Classy team everyone wants to play for anymore..the grass looks “is”greener somewhere else.
July 24th, 20127:09 pm
Dempster’s already stated that he may return to the CUbs as a free agent next season, so this will truly be a 2 month rental for the Braves.
Because he’s a 10 – 5 player, I’m sure his agent his working out some additional compensation for him to agree to a trade.
How will he do in an environment in which there is pressure to win? There are no expectations in Chicago, and for the time he’s been there, they’ve been out of the race by August.
That’s how much we hate that scumbag zero Uggla that we think Conrad would be an improvement.
7:05 two players for dempstick…
The Rays and Angels have talked about a deal that would send right-handed starter James Shields to Anaheim in exchange for outfielder Peter Bourjos and catcher Hank Conger, and possibly right-hander Ervin Santana, a source tells Tim Kurkjian of ESPN.com.
July 24th, 20127:10 pm
big question about how much of our future Delgado will turn out to be
Nokahoma too, got to have some Nok.
July 24th, 20127:11 pm
OH FREDI, All you said in quotes after the was “the ump said he was safe” FREDI stand up and argue some, try to fire up team and win some games.. Heck you could have pulled 1ST BASE out of the ground and hammer tossed it into RF.
Yeah, that’s an extra 41,000 fans for the season. I’m sure that increased revenue isn’t chump change to the Braves.
Send the Angels McCann,Uggla,JJ,and Hanson for Bourjos and Santana.
July 24th, 20127:13 pm
250 for 82 games = 41,000?? Really???
July 24th, 20127:14 pm
Yogi — If we had a fresh new baseball oriented ownership group like the Dodgers have now, we could be a classy magnet team again.
Word gets around and players talk to each other.
Guys do not seem to want to come here unless they have deep local ties to the area, like Hudson who is from the state and is rooted in this area.
That is more the exceptin than the rule.
As for Mc Cann, if they disrespect him when his time is due, he should take care of himself.
Outta here for game. For goodness sake lets win one tonight.
July 24th, 20127:15 pm
Special math, nolie
What??? That isn’t very much at all. Come on, Wren….
I do not blame Miami fans for Booing Ramirez. Underachiever.
Braves have their hitting shoes on now.
July 24th, 20127:16 pm
u are so right..disgusted
I think its cool for players who are disappointing to get Booed.
Wow, an early lead. How odd is that?
July 24th, 20127:17 pm
Well, at least there was a runner on 3rd for the sacrifice.
Good job, JHey!
July 24th, 20127:19 pm
Send Chipper down, the worthless bumb. He deserves to be booed!!!
I would not want Hanley on my team cause I am a fan of defense first in the infield.
I’d rather have Andrelton and watch him grow up and the same with Minor and Delgado, if we pass up 2012 so be it.
Trade B level prospects for rentals, not guys who have shown MLB ability.
Even if we get to the postseason, what good is it if we go down in the WC game or division series again — We have been through that before then you lose a guy like Dempster cause he will not sign here.
Only get someone if you can buy real low.
July 24th, 20127:20 pm
nolie: can’t assess or value his future with us if he is traded. This team has not conducted one legit rebuild since 1989. Crap, like money problems not allowing for personnel maneuvers – like this off-season, happens when you spend big $$$ putting lipstick on a pig. If there is one thing they’ve done well as of late is develop pitchers – just ask Texas. Instead of wasting money we don’t have and resources we could use, why not rebuild and allow young players to develop?
Big time hitting shoes on that inning….
So DEMPSTER does not like us southern folk. Oh well guess no post season for us.
July 24th, 20127:21 pm
Chipper does not deserve to be Booed, its bad attitude guys like Hanley and Josh Beckett who should be Booed.
I cannot Boo Chipper.
send Freddie down along with Chipper and bring up Mejia
There’s the Braves for ya…such a great chance and we score one.
A lead none the less!
“That’s why they pay Frank the big bucks.” Really Chipper- please tell me that was sarcasm. You make what 12 times what Frank does.
Will the real Nolie please stand up..
July 24th, 20127:22 pm
The Texas model worked out real good — Not a bad example to follow MiaBchBrave fan
The A Bomb
BUNT! BUNT! MELTDOWN!
Whats up with Ryan Rogers? Read somewhere that he was close to being traded
that is how you bunt
July 24th, 20127:24 pm
Thank God Janish was taking that throw instead of Pastormissedit. Crap throw by Uggla.
you keep talking about rebuilding the third youngest team in the majors that will likely be the youngest next season when Chipper and Wilson and Hinske leave, the team with more 25 and under players starting @ pitching and position than any other. exactly what is there to rebuild? any other team would consider all those youngsters a major rebuild.
Uggla has an erratic arm. Just another in a long list of flaws with this guy. Good way to get to that ball, though.
July 24th, 20127:26 pm
hangs tough in the DP though
July 24th, 20127:27 pm
I’m really hoping this trade falls through. Guess who has the lower ERA for their career? That’s right, Randall Delgado has an ERA 0.30 lower than Dempster for his career. Dempster has had one season with an ERA under 3.00, that was in 2008. Since then, his year-end ERA has been 3.65, 3.85, 4.80 and his current 2.11. The guy is a below average pitcher having a great year. Trading away a future stud for a guy having a good season is ridiculous.
the post was about uggla….he has been less than advertised for 2 years …he is too beefed up trying to hit home runs .. the problem with the Braves is they have always had a hard time hitting. and now pitching. He needs ot go
finally have the Braves on at the beach. Why is it so hard to find the Braves at a GA beach??
July 24th, 20127:28 pm
OMG I can’t believe they are trying to score runs by getting hits….what LOSERS!
Don’t think I’ve ever seen anybody here say that guys like Reyes should not bunt for a hit. just more strawmen
July 24th, 20127:29 pm
Dempster is doing the Braves a favor…Time to move on. Without an extension, bottom line is Dempster is not worth Delgado. If Hudson, Sheets, Hanson, Minor, and Delgado can’t get them to the playoffs this year, I hope they hold their better chips until the off-season. They will have a lot more payroll available for free agents and trading potential. With Beachy hopefully coming back mid-season next year, upgrading the offense is just as, or more important, than pitching.
1st inning run all Bourn – taking 3rd on Prado’s “hit” then scoring on Heyward’s sac fly.
The biggest thing that Wren could do prior to the trading deadline is sign Bourn to an extension. No way Bourn would do it but I would send a contract to his agent 4 year $52 million and see what he says
Same pitch that Lee struck out on
July 24th, 20127:30 pm
If the Angels can get Shields for that return, we have to go after him instead of Dempster.
0-2 count to a walk….Dang
11 pages and the game just started…. does anyone work during the day?
hudson gonna put us in hole early again
guess we know which Huddy showed up huh?
July 24th, 20127:31 pm
so far I am thrilled that we still have Delgado on this team – no way do I give him up for Dempster.
Greinke yes. Shields yes. Lester yes. Garza maybe. About anyone else rumored to be on the market no.
my first inning blues
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
