17 year old, LHP Luis Merejo with another rough outing in the GCL. Of course, stats down in the complex league are pretty worthless. I think the scouting report I read was a fastball that ran up to 93mph with an above average changeup and some feel for a breaking ball.

Here’s how Dempster would rank among Braves starters in 2012 if the trade happens (not counting Sheets, who’s only had two starts; so basically comparing him to Hudson, Hanson, and Minor)

ERA – 1st
K/9 – 3rd
BB/9 – 1st
K/BB – 1st
HR/9 – 2nd
WHIP – 1st
H/9 – 1st
Opp. BA, OBP, and SLG – 1st
Quality Starts – 1st
IP/start – 1st

I suspect we could trade Uggla to one of a very few suitors….not sure who would have a need, but if Danny Ferry can unload Joe Johnson, as hopeless as that looked, then Wren could offload Uggly on someone, even if we have to eat a few bucks over the years to make it happen.

His wild inconsistency hurts this team much more than it helps, imho….

If I was looking to do anything at this point, it would be deperately trying to send Uggly on down the line….whether he hits .750 with 50 homers the rest of the year or not.

Here’s how Dempster would rank among Braves starters in 2012

It’s really too bad the team didn’t have him when he compiled all those stats. What the Braves are going to get is the pitcher going forward and that could be anything. Could be he reverts back to his average self and looks like a 4.30 ERA guy with a 1.4 WHIP.

He might grow into a #3 in a couple of years. Right about when he starts getting expensive.

I agree that Delgado is still more valuable than 2 months of Dempster. But, a #3 starter can be found if necessary when the time comes.

A TERRIBLE TRADE FRANK

So now Frank Wren has decided to mortgage the Braves future for a “going on” 36 year old pitcher.

You gave up far too much in Delgado Frank.

I’ve not been against Wren as a GM up until this point, but there’s little wisdom in giving up such a promising young starter for a two month rental.

You gave up so much for so little!

A far better move – to ensure the Braves more wins this year – would have been simply to replace Fredi as manager.

You must have thought Frank, as Ken Rosenthal alluded to earlier this season, that your job is on the line if the team doesn’t win this year.

Was the pressure on because of your past foolishness Frank?

You readily got fooled in hiring Fredi Gonzalez, who’s clearly incompetent as a major league manager – and is probably the worst tactical manager in the majors.

You got fooled in giving current NL strikeout leader Dan Uggla a 12.4 million dollar per year contract, the highest contract ever paid to a second baseman.

You got fooled with signing D. Lowe to “a high rent district” Scott Boras styled contract, which you’re eating 10 million dollars of this year.

You also got fooled with K. Kawakami, who spent his last year languishing in the minors – at 7 million a year.

So no, it won’t be for either you or the Braves, as the old Who song suggests: “WE WON’T GET FOOLED AGAIN!”

For Frank, you JUST GOT FOOLED AGAIN!

This is a John Smoltz for Doyle Alexander kind of a trade in reverse!

In fact over the weekend the Washington broadcasters commented that Delgado reminded them somewhat of Pedro Martinez, while discussing Delgado’s potential.

And Theo Epstein is laughing all the way toward rebuilding the Cubs with a high quality Braves prospect – just as the Rangers once did with four high quality Braves prospects.

To think I was lauding you for showing some restraint this winter – by not trading away young prospects.

Who should you have traded to get Dempster Frank? Someone like a Todd Redmond – maybe combined with a lesser prospect.

But you already traded Redmond away to get Janish, didn’t you Frank, when you realistically could have used Pastornicky** and Wilson (who won’t be out long) for six weeks.

**(After all Frank, you thought Pastornicky was qualified enough defensively to start the season.)

It’s a TERRIBLE TRADE FRANK, JUST TERRIBLE!!

Dempster alone will not fix our ills – not enough to get to a World Series. Hanson’s sliding, Sheets is our 2nd most reliable starter (after 2 starts), we can’t hit lefties, our pinch-hitting is pathetic, and Uggla’s getting worse as the season progresses…….. One move alone will not fix the Braves. Will Wren be aggressive enough to address all of our weaknesses, or just patch the inner tube with Dempster (if they can complete the deal…)…???!

I would rather have traded for Infante or a good outfielder. With another player, we could sit Uggla and play Prado at 2nd until Uggla gets a clue.

Right now he sucks.

We have the best 1-2 hitters in the majors and our big hitters outside of Chipper have not delivered.

It was closer in slo-mo than it looked live, but Heyward was clearly safe. Assuming Chipper still hits the single in the next AB, you’re looking at 1st and 3rd with one out and a run in.

Tie run comes in on the next batter, maybe.

Whether Braves win it in extras is moot. But, that was a huge missed call.

The scary part about Uggla is his total inability to make adjustments to try to at least slow the slide towards Mendoza. I mean, yes, they pay him to hit home runs and drive in runs, but spending a few days hitting balls back up the middle and going to right field for some singles and doubles would still help the team and, hey, just might get his confidence and swing back on track. This is two years now where for a large part of the season he has been a total zero out there. For what the Braves are paying him that just can’t happen.

I don’t care if Urnesto Mejia is on the 40 man roster or not let him pinch hit and play a little first base and give Freeman a rest once and awhile and see if he can play his old position left field, he can’t be worse than Hinski.

If Uggla isn’t hitting here then why would anyone else want him? The same can be said for JJ.

The best thing we can do is be patient and hope he bust out of it with a streak, like he did last year. You can’t come out of a slump on the bench. The offense isn’t the problem with this team, so staying with him is the best option at this point. It may be wise to look at other options in the offseason, but somehow I still think he winds up with 30+ homers (he always has). The lack of RBI’s can be absorbed by J-Hey’s improved offense.
