Carrie Muskat / MLB.com reports — Ryan Dempster will most likely be dealt before the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline — just not likely on Monday to the Braves in exchange for young right-hander Randall Delgado, who was reportedly in line to be included in the deal.

Let us all pray this is true!

Ok I give up on expecting a sports reporter to AcTuALLy report the facts about stories….so I’ll ask: Dempster right handed or left handed?
Please AJC, do your job, not every reader has every fact about every player and would expect a modicum of important basic information as that in a basic story about an important trade. Not too much to ask for.

Jesus, this trade smells like Doyle Alexander in the 80s. The braves aren’t good enough for this one pitcher to put them over the top. This team is so wildly inconsistent, giving away a good young arm for an old arm isn’t the answer. Greinke is an upgrade. Liriano is an upgrade. This team isn’t good enough to rent a player at the cost of a good young arm. Hanson sucks, Hudson is doin his beat impression of Jekyl and hyde, Minor is young, Sheets could be good again but who knows and JJ should be traded for a case of sunflower seeds. Dempster added to the mix doesn’t give me visions of the 95 Braves.

I don’t mind trading for Dempster………..just don’t give up a guy like Delgado. Dempster is a rental. He’ll re-sign with the cubs or a west coast team in the off season.

Well, well, well…. Minor having some ‘minor’ problems in the first inning again. Wish they’d find someone to replace this clown. He’s the definition of Inconsistency. Not a fan of Delgado either really, maybe in time they would be better but not yet. Far from elite, they are.

Teddy B – are you watching the game? Minor pitched very well – two of the three hits were on pitches that weren’t strikes, and the only hard hit balls were the double play and the 3rd out. Minor is fine.

Not saying that Dempster is the answer, but those of you saying that its a bad trade because Delgado is involved are smoking some good crap and should pass it on instead of hogging it all. I would prefer Greinke because he is younger if nothing else. Trading Delgado doesn’t faze me in the least, I don’t think that kid will ever amount to much. Just my opinion people.

On a side note, looks like Minor is up to his usual stuff. This is why the Braves need to make a trade, because their starting pitching absolutely sucks. If they don’t start taking out the trash, they will fall out of contention very quickly.

IMO both Delgado and Minor would benefit from better tutoring. It seems to me that Braves SPs tend to regress rather than progress, and that can be laid at the feet of one Roger McDowell.

Delgado and Minor have the stuff to be very good but they need someone who can bring it out and quite frankly, I don’t think McDowell has it in him to do that.

If the deal doesn’t go through, I agree, the big loser is Theo Epstein. I like Dempster but am not comfortable trading Delgado at this point, unless the contract extension for Dempster is included and I doubt it is. Surely there is a veteran starter out there who, along with Sheets, upgrades our starters significantly without giving up Teheran, Delgado, or Viscaino.

Awful, awful trade. I hope Dempster nixes it. Give away a future #1 starter (potentially) who could pitch for you for the next 10 years for a guy, who granted is a great pitcher, that is in his mid-30’s in a contract year. Best case scenario is we make the trade and Dempster signs a long term deal. Worst case is we trade away the future for 15 or so starts by Dempster. Last time we signed a 30+ year old pitcher to a mammoth deal didn’t work out so well for us.

I hope this doesn’t happen.

Now that Omar has lef the Marlins, the Braves should give back Dan Uggla. (PLEASE GIVE WORTHLESS DAN BACK…anything to get him out of Atlanta).
Chip Caray started the broadcast with, “The hot Atlanta Braves…”. Apparently Chip has forgotten Saturday and Sunday in Washington…brain dead, as usual.
The Braves line-up has mailed in 3 innings of AB’s so far tonight…just like the last 15 innings in Washington. Pretty patheic.
Gonna be a long night. The joke continues…

jharber,

We are #2 in the East. That’s from offense. To answer you more specifically, when Simmons comes back, it will improve. Our offense is not the problem, our 3rd from the bottom starting pitching is the problem.

TN Jeff

7:57 pm

IF the Braves get Dempster (who apparently after playing for Gonzalez & Wren is NOT eager to return to that brain trust) for Delgado, you still have loses every rotation from Hanson, Minor, and Jurgens in addition to the fact that the bullpen will remain blown up by having to pitch 3-4 innings every time these wusses pitch.

Why is Wren so high on this guy? This is the exact opposite thing we need, a 35 year old pitcher for a 22 year old pitcher? What happened to keeping the young arms together? Delgado has the potential to be better then Dempster ever has been. Look at the career numbers, Wren is gonna give up a sold 22 yr old prospect for a pitcher who has an era of 4.30, and then you want to extend the guy? Is this Derek Lowe 2.0? Come on Wren, pull back this trade while you can.

If we get Dempster, we’re a better team NOW. With Chipper not shy about pointing to the inconsistent pitching (why should he be?) and fans eager for a push in his final season, I can see Wren’s thinking.

Does it make the most sense? I’m not really sure… if we get him to sign an extension in the deal, I like it. Delgado has shown some promise this season and I hate to see him on the block, but with so many teams after a good arm right now I wouldn’t expect Minor to be a strong enough trade option.

If it does end up happening, I hope we can get him for ~2 years. Anything more is risky given his age.

I don’t like the deal anyway. Hes not a pitcher who can pitch solid in the post season and he will not resign with us next season. I would rather put our proven starter Medlen in the rotation., Why hes still in the pen is beyond me. He is proven and there he sits for 2 innings here and there while they let Minor and Delgado blow up over and over. We added Sheets, now put Medlen where he belongs. Medlen would give us a chance to win where the other two implode over and over.

Will say, though, that ATL does have a lot of young talent that teams drool over. Nice bargaining chips to get guys who are having great seasons. Braves are trying to contend and can’t won’t get anywhere relying on these young arms this season. Needed more solid arms. I agree with everyone who says Medlen should be given a rotation spot back. I disagree that Delgado is some sort of untouchable…Teheran is a way more complete pitcher, just having some trouble getting it together right now. I don’t like to watch a rookie pitcher shrugging off called pitches from two of the best catchers in the National League. And I didn’t like watching Ross begging him all night to keep the ball down. A big league pitcher shouldn’t have to be told to keep his off-speed stuff down. With Vizcaino and Beachy coming back healthy next year, and Teheran, Delgado, Minor, and Gilmartin all coming along, we can spare an arm with potential to get a guy that can pitch right now and push us over the top for a chance to compete for a World Series now, while we still have the heart and soul of the club for one more run in Chipper Jones. Next year, we are going to need a leader, and as much as I like McCann, Heyward, and Freeman…right now I don’t see one!

Lets see the difference between an organization thats wants to win championships and an organization that only wants to make money:
Yankees-large payroll, wont tolerate mediocrity, always trying to improve roster, fans demand success, pull off a trade of Ichiro, quietly, with no problems.Braves-shrinking mid to (soon) lower lever payroll, happy with mediocrity (shot at the playoffs, woohoo!), keep same roster after last years record choke, fans whine but demand little so get what they deserve, team cant pull off a trade or a signing even when agreed to (Dempster, remember Furcal three years ago?)….Hahahahahahahhhaha..Thank Liberty Media my friends, and remember, this will only get worse as the 25 year media contact turner/aol saddled the organization with as a parting present to their subsidieries goes forward……..Braves will not be a championship club again in our lifetime, sorry.

when you get into a bidding war, the price isn’t cheap. LA didn’t want to give up what Cubs asked for.
but the Braves are short on pitching even though they draft them early about 80% of the time.

Braves have now gone against 2 pitchers in the past four games that were 2-2 with 10.00 and 7.30 ERAs in their last 5 starts or so (Edwin Jackson and Josh Johnson) with terrible results.
