It wouldn’t surprise me too much if Jurrjens is released after this game. Seems to be back to his old ways.
If Fredi has anybody in the pen who could give him 2-3 innings, we need to get them in there quick. 6 runs is darned hard to come back from; and to expect it twice over 3 days is pushing it even for a positive guy like me.

Hanson is going to contiue to be our struggling number 2 pitcher cause we have no one else.
I would like to see Tommy step it up in the second half.
It will not be easy to get someone better. This game is toast. Series split.
Imagine if we did not have the Friday night comeback, hey, the Washington Wexpos are still in their heads.
Jurjjens is a lousy pitcher. But we have no else better right now and Teheran is not an option for this yr, not till ST.

The Braves would be a formidable playoff team, if only they could land Ryan Dempster.Someone in the Braves starting pitching line up really need to step up before October but we haven’t seen it happen yet.

They always said that Jurrjens’ results were never in line with his skills when he was having success. When his stats were Ace-like, it seemed to be the buzz that this couldn’t keep up based on the advanced metrics. But this shizz is ridiculous! It’s almost like you could start Uggla a game and get the same or better results as running Jurrjens out there.

Baseball players are overpaid and over worshiped like all other athletes—but most of them try to perform to the best of their abilities and as you and others saw on Friday they love winning.

kevkat — JJ has very marginal trade value and if the Braves were to move him they would prolly have to pay him some of the $$$$$$$$ left on this yrs salary, so they can non tender him in the off season.

Stop bitching about Wren, he had no way of knowing that Beachy was going to go down this year. Minor did great in ST, Jurrjens was supposed to improve after the surgery. Hanson changed his F’ed up delivery, and Hudson was going to be Hudson again. Everything looked promising at first.

ATLcracker – The Cubs don’t have a second baseman. They want to get rid of left fielder Alphonso Soriano’s contract (18 million per year through 2014). They are willing to trade Ryan Dempster. We offer Delgado, Uggla (13 million) and a player to be named. They save 5 million a year. Warning track power is a home run in Chicago. Braves improve by subtraction (Prado can come in and be the All Star shortstop for the next 5 years). Soriano will be good possibly great in left field and is right handed. His defense is improving. Dempster will be good possibly great and not that expensive to resign. Any problems?

1) Soriano’s defense is improving at age 36? Riiiiiight….
2) We’re already budget-restricted, so you want us to add $5M more to the payroll by taking on a LF with a really bad contract who’s closer to 40 than 30?
3) Prado’s not an everyday shortstop. He’s a fill-in at best.
4) Dempster’s making $13M this year. I doubt he takes that big a pay cut next year in free agency.

Can’t wait to hear Fat Fred try and sugarcoat this pathetic outing by J.J. 9 hits in 2 2/3 is down right embarrassing. And people wonder why the braves bull pen is always worn out. When you have starters that consistently go 3 or 4 innings before they get shelled, the bull pen can’t cover for them. But hey, this is the rotation that Wren and Fat Fred put together, and this is what Fred was talking about when he said this team will be known for it’s pitching. Just shows you how stupid this guy really is.

Would Padres ever consider Uggla and Minor/Delgado + cash for Headley? Prado becomes 2B, Headley splits time with Chipper and upgrades the bench, drop Francisco. Next season, infield is on lock with Freeman, Prado, Simmons and Headley.
Padres get star potential in Uggla and an upside young controllable pitcher.

Justin Upton is the guy they need. He is a now but more importantly future oriented type of move.
Wren needs to look beyond the end of his nose on this one. Yes they need pitching but they need so much it won’t be fixed by getting Dempster.
Why bc apart from the occasional game none of the Braves starters can get past the 5-6 inning. Sheets is looking like their best pitcher (small sample to be sure) and he is coming off a 2 year hiatus with a storied injury history.
Sheets cannot pitch every game and Hudson phones in a stinker every three starts & has bone spurs in his ankle.
Get Upton and if you must get Shields or Liriano and view 2012 as gravy if you make the play offs.
Chipper is going to hit the DL one more time before the season is done and its folly to believe otherwise.
Uggla is now on a regular mode of rotating slumps and may set a career SO record. I have said Wren should trade him if at all possible before that 13mm becomes a lead anchor. It may be too late.
Prado, Bourn and more recently Heyward on the motors on the offense. FF gets hot for a week or so then cools.
Mac is hitting HR but perhaps the league forgot he could be dangerous at the plate & pitchers got sloppy. With his recent approach tweak & HR surge expect managers to pitch him more conservatively.
Justin now and maybe BJ in the off season if he doesn’t get traded by July 31sts.
Bourn would be nice to keep but he will command 15mm a year and the Braves cannot afford that for a 30yo speedster.

If we cannot afford Bourn, guess we could move for guys like Ryan Ludwick and Ryan Spillbourgs, they are not very good but should fit in the Liberty Media budget.
Some one called our Wren for not doing anything about the SP in the winter but come on, who does Mr. Wren work for????? There was no money to spend, the corprate scrooges will not allow it.
Stay tuned for another tough off season.
How this team remains relevant and competitive is beyone me, Fredi and Wren cannot be that bad considering the limitations around here.
I think that Fredi and Mc Dowell are good baseball people and doing a good job.
You want a manager who is doing a lousy job, look to South Florida.
You want a GM who is clueless and a buffoon, look to Boston, a clueless neophyte who is in way over his head.
Give me Wren and Fredi any day over what we could have.

I was in Decatur for 2 years in the mid 90’s.
And Kawakami pitched well in 09 and OK in 2010, though the team never seemed to get him any runs. His ERA in 2010 hit the roof after he was pulled from the rotation. (go back and look at the game logs, if you don’t believe me)
His ERA for both years combined was 4.32 AFTER the disastrous time in the bullpen.
So he was actually a helluva lot better pitcher than Jurrjens has been for most of the last year.

Half of this is correct. Doubt Wren will replace Hanson considering he’s leading the staff in wins. JJ will be replaced and possibly Minor.

I agree with your JJ comment. I wasn’t suggesting a trade because of just what you said, very little trade value, but something has to be done…may have to bite the bullet and pay some of his salary. One thing is for sure..we can’t win with him currently

braves cannot afford to let JJ go for free. Frank should sign him for the next 15 yrs for about $1.2 billion. With that kind of money, JJ should be motivated to be 7-30 every year. He’s a money pitcher, Frank needs to show him the money. Go braves and don’t let the door hits you!!
