FREDI GONZALEZ
On if series split feels like lost series:
“No, not really. I feel like we had a chance to win the series. Win Friday night, win the first game of the doubleheader Saturday. We had a chance there yesterday, Game 2, and they came back after we scored two. We had opportunity to win it, it just didn’t happen.”
On what was going wrong with Jurrjens:
“He got ahead of the hitters. A couple of the at-bats were 1-2, 2-2 and he just couldn’t get his breaking ball over, or to do what he wanted and get a swing-and-miss pitch.”
On if thought about when he might pitch again or if skip him:
“I have not. 20 minutes after the game ends and we’ve got time to think about that. I have not even thought about that right now. Just go tomorrow with the Miami series, Minor, Huddy and Tommy, try to win that series. I haven’t thought any further ahead.”
On bases loaded chance:
“They got out of it probably with our hottest hitter with Mac at the plate, he just happened to hit into a 1-2-3 double play and that kind of took the steam out of it. You feel like in the course of a game like that there’s going to be an opportunity somewhere where your team gets back in it somehow and that was our opportunity and we didn’t take advantage of it.”
On Venters’ return:
“That was nice. The ball was the sinking. It was good for him to get the two innings of work and we were really looking at his pitch count. We didn’t want him to go out there and crank out 35 pitches. We had Durbin up to help him through that inning. But he did a fantastic job. It was nice to see him get back out there, throw the ball over the plate and throw strikes.”
On moves that need to be made going into Monday:
“We’ll make some moves I would think. But we’ll sit here and talk about it on the plane before we announce anything or even decide if we’re going to make any moves.”
JAIR JURRJENS
On not being able to put hitters away:
“Yeah, getting to two strikes was easy for me today but just after two strikes, I didn’t know how to make a quality pitch to get them out. I made a lot of mistakes. A lot of pitches came back over the plate, and they made it hurt.”
On if struggled with command of offspeed pitches:
“Not only that but right now last two years, I’ve not been able to get inside with my fastball to lefties. It’s running back like a two-seamer and I’m trying to throw a four-seamer then. That’s something I need to go back and see if I’m dropping my arm slot again and try to get on top of it.”
On change-ups to Zimmerman:
“The first one I really thought he hit it off the end of the bat. It seemed like he got it. the second one was in but it didn’t have the depth going down. It stayed up. He’s a good hitter. He’s going to make adjustments and get the head out.”
On if location or if could be tipping something:
“I think I went up and Roger saw something, a lot of my pitches were staying up, running back over the plate. Even when I hit the corner it’s up and it’s easier for the hitters to make adjustments on it. I need to go back and start working down again and hit my corners and maybe start throwing a lot of strikes.”
On if last two starts are similar in terms of struggles:
“Yes. Lot of mistakes up over the plate high. Everything you see all the pitches I got hurt, bad pitches, they were strikes but they were up in the zone. They’re good hitters they’re going to make you pay….I need to go back look at tapes and try to see what changed in my delivery and try to correct it. I have an extra day because we have an off day when we get home, then I might try to throw two bullpens to continue to try to get that feel back. I just need to get the feel back for my pitches and I think I’ll be fine.”
On if he expects Braves to keep him in rotation:
“Yeah, I hope so. It’s two bad starts. I know it’s really two ugly ones, but since I came up I’ve been really dependable. I hope they give me a chance to prove myself again.”
CHIPPER JONES
On different feeling after split vs. first two games:
“Our chance to win the series was last night, and we didn’t get it done. Today was not good from pitch one. But we came in here and we held our own and thought we played well for the most part. We’re right back where we started. Now it’s time to hopefully make up ground while we’re playing in separate cities. We’ve got to go down to Miami and not have a letdown and take care of business down there.”
On why last night was one to win:
“Because it’s 2-2 in the sixth and we had an early lead. I expect every time we have an early lead to keep it. We gave them I feel their first two runs in order to get the game tied. And I thought if we kept the game close we’d score a run or two off their bullpen late, and unfortunately whoever came in and pitched late in the game didn’t pitch very well and thus the game kind of got away from us late.”
On starting pitching setting tone for game:
“With the exception of the first game, starting pitching really proved to be the deciding factor. That’s the way it’s always going to be. You get your starters to go out and give you quality starts, give you six, seven innings, three or fewer runs. You’ll have a lot of chances to win ballgames, especially with our offense. Right now, like I said, a week or 10 days ago, we’ve struggled with our consistency because we’ve struggled at the end of our rotation and you saw it today. It’s a little demoralizing when you’re in a dogfight for the division and you’re constantly fighting from behind. But we’ve got to overcome it. We’ve got to play with the cards we’re dealt. And we’ve dealt with our share of bumps in the road along the way. We’ve come out of it nicely, so I don’t expect it to be any different now.”
JONNY VENTERS
On his outing:
“Felt good. Got some groundballs. Physically I felt great, something to build on. It felt good to go out there and get a couple of innings under my belt.”
On results from work he’s put in:
“Yeah I think so. I felt pretty good all the way around mechanically, physically. Getting the groundballs is really what tells what my stuff is doing. Any time I can go out there and get some swings early in the count and some groundballs, I feel like I’m doing something right mechanically.”
On if best felt all year:
“I felt pretty good in april, it was definitely the best I’ve felt in a long time. It’s definitely a plus. I was just excited to get back out there and to have it kind of go pretty well was definitely something I needed. Something to build off of and hopefully throw some zeroes up here in a row and build a little confidence and see what happens.”
JASON HEYWARD
On feeling like settled for a split:
“Not settling. They earned them. That’s a first-place team most of the season, played really well to this point. They kind of did what they needed to. We didn’t give them the game necessarily.”
On if completely different feeling after Friday, or realize it’s going to be tough vs. Nats, this is way it’s going to be:
“We all here say this is way it’s going to be. This group basically made the playoffs by one in 2010, missed it by one last year. It’s not easy to do either/or. We’re playing a good team at their place. They’re going to make you earn it.”

Did he say he is dependable in the roatation? Oh my god the delusion on this baseball team will hurt them in the end. Starting pitching is so hard to get right now that Medlen is looking more and more like an option. BRING UP TEHERAN, one of the highest rated prospects in baseball. Lets see what hes got, can’t be any worse then what he have at the back end of the rotation.

JJ has a dead arm. Cut him loose. Uggla needs to be part of a trade. Too inconsistent. Prado can play second better and hit. Unload that pile of sh*t , he killing the Braves right now and seems to make no adjustments.

MORE MANAGERIAL
Chipper always sounds far more managerial than Fredi, as I read the quotes.
Fredi mostly gives canned or “we’ll see” answers.
In fact it’s gotten to the point where I mostly skip over reading Fredi’s responses.

I’ve seen enough of Fredi, Jurrjens and Uggly.
If Frank Wren doesn’t address these three he should be the first one to go !
A good manager will position his team to give them at least a chance to win. How many runs to you let your starting pitcher give up before taking him out? Its pretty obvious Jurrjens does not have it anymore. 88 MPH “fastballs” down the middle of the plate do not fool major league hitters.

JJ has a leg problem that may be career ending. When you can’t get the bend in your knees anymore because you have a brace on the leg and you are trying to protect it, you can’t throw the low fastball strike anymore. You can’t drive off that leg toward home plate so you lose mph on your fastball and you can’t get the same release point for every pitch so your location is sporadic. Other teams have seen this now so I don’t think a trade for any value is out there. The humane thing to do would be to shut him down for the rest of the year and hope that he can rehab that leg over the winter and have a good spring showing and then trade for whatever value you can get.

With Lowe, McLouth & Kawakami gone, there is one more salary “dump” that needs to be explored: Dan Uggla. His “All Star” status is a cruel joke, an insult to every second baseman in the National League.
Once again Frank Wren has saddled the payroll with another unproductive player.

Speaks volumes, doesn’t it? Never … NEVER … never going to win jack with this clown in the dugout. At some point, you have to get a little upset, don’t you?
Would have much rather heard him say, “yeah, it DID feel like we lost the bleeping series. They handed us game one, we came back strong in game two, but then, completely lost focus and failed to get the bleeping job done. I’m disappointed and so is everyone in this locker room. It’s bleeping unacceptable and we are not going to just stand pat and continue to waste opportunities like this. Each person in there, myself included, needs to look himself in the mirror and figure out what I can do to make sure that we don’t let teams off the bleeping hook again.”
But that’s just a pipe dream.

Chipper needs to be traded prior to the deadline. Am I wrong?
Seriously, this isn’t much about this season, but how best to continue building the club for the future. Several solid, young pieces are there already. Temp rental players–while giving up some of the future–only to lose in the first round or worse, the wild card playoff game…just isn’t smart. And Uggla, wow, doesn’t even look like a ballplayer. He needs to stay away from the benchpress and dip bars. Just work on core strength, agility, and flexibility. He looks like a stubby version of Popeye.

Jurrjens seems like a decent guy and he has pitched well in the past. However, he simply does not have it anymore. The Braves are trying to win the division here and having him in the rotation does nothing to further that goal. Hey, the guy was once good, really good but he got hurt and now is terrible. It’s unfortunate but it happens. What will really make me angry is if Wren/Fredi continue to pitch him. He’s done and so are the Braves if JJ remains in the rotation and Hansen doesn’t get his act together. Go Braves!

JJ has shown how “dependabe ” he is. If he stays with the club, that’s insane He’s had his chances. He is not a MLB quality pitcher. He is nothhing but a liability.
Dan Uggla, apparently has no quotes today. Hmmmmmm. Uggla needs to be out of the lineup. He brings NOTHING. I don’t care what that clown gets paid,he brings nothing. ANYONE can give a better at bat. He has been crap, for 8 solid weeks. His play in the field this series was also second rate. If Fredi had a brain (or any balls), he’s sit his Miami pal, for the good of the team. Will it happen? No. Fredi is a joke. He’s probably the poorest manager in MLB.

Other than Wainwright and the lefthander starting for Texas who they lost in the Texiera trade have the Braves farm system produced any starting pitchers who can go past five innings? There must be some player development issues with the coaching staff in the minors. Are they only letting their starters go five innings then pulling them or what. Hanson, Delgado, Minor, and Teheran all are five inning pitchers at best. What is going on?

The only bright spot for the Braves today was Heyward’s last two ABs where he hit the ball with authority to the left side. He has been slumping a bit since the All Star game and that approach might be the trigger for getting back in the pre-All Star Game groove.
Uggla has got to sit! Give him a couple of games off to clear his head and work on his mechanics. Either give the Rev a couple of starts at second, or if Uggla continues to struggle, move Prado to 2nd and bring up Constanza to play LF Projecting finalo numbers for Uggla is meaningless now. To reach the 80 RBIs someone said he is on a pace for would mean he would have to return to his April/May level of play soon. He doesn’t seem to be on a pace to hit 20 HRs and he is not being paid $12 million a year to be Eddie Yost.

Im very disappointed. Once again I have to turn off the game before the 3rd inning. Its ridiculous. Of course, since Im such a fan, I turn back just to have my feelings hurt even more. Im tired of this lets hold on to the future crap. Frank Wren acts like he will be here in 5 or 10 years to see how these young guns turn out. Does he not realize that if he continues at this rate, he will not have a job? Its been time to make moves. Hanson sucks. JJ is terrible. I dont just blame them though. What has Roger McDowell done since he became pitching coach? He has to take some of this blame. When you have a guy who was out the league for 2 years and he becomes your best pitcher, that says it all about this staff.
Uggla is an enigma wrapped in a problem. He is not going anywhere unfortunately. Where stuck with him. Im just so pissed that we have to be down 4, 5 runs before they sing take me out to the ballgame. Its depleting and ridiculous. We need so much help right now. Our bench is horrible as well. But, its nothing we can do but sit back and hope cause we are stuck.

Almost makes you miss Bruce Chen. He can go 6-7 innings. And, D Lowe was terrible we thought, but he usually went 7 plus innings. JJ can probably go 6 innings but it would be like 35 runs scored. Yes, something is wrong. The brace must be the cause. He couldn’t even find 1st base to step on with that brace. They might as well DL him or DFA. Bringing him back next year at 5 mil or more, would be criminal. Almost as criminal as bringing Uggla back at 13.3 mil.
Trade Uggla, bring up Constanza/Durango to platoon in LF and move Prado to 2nd base. That would provide more speed, baserunners, and defense. Release Hinske and bring up Mejia as the RH hitting guy on the bench. And, let the young guys pitch: Delgado and Teheran. Can’t be worse than Hanson and JJ. Include Hanson and Uggla in a trade for a pitcher if anyone would take them.

Can’t blame freddi for all the problems but this year’s inconsistencies have been unexplainable. The pitching woes were unforeseen as well as these hitting slumps. It is a miracle that this team is 9 games over and still in the race. The Mets have collapsed as well as the Marlins. There is always a chance for a Cardinals like miracle, well maybe. Let’s just hope for some pitching help and see if the Uggla dilemma will somehow work itself out through trade or time off!

In the offseason, I’d like to see a concerted effort at having a balanced lineup. Lefties are killing us. Our composite lineup makes it too easy for opposing managers to schedule pitchers. Opposing managers know that even if a starter of theirs goes down, they can bring up a lefty for one game against us, and he’ll just blow right through our lineup.

We neded our starter to cum up big, step up and pitch 7 friggin innings and what does he do? Pees down his leg again.
And what about Frediot…he walks a lefty so he his left handed pitcher can pitch to their right handed hitter and he gets burned…again…and of course NO ONE asks Frediot about it in the postgame…what was his reasoning??
Now we go to Miami and watch Josh Johnson go 9 and shut them down

“High Cheese” “Low Slide” “Inside Heater” There are many nicknames you could give Uggla if it is to describe his favorite way of striking out. Back in the day before Little League when kids just went out to play and organized their own games, when there weren’t enough kids for nine person teams we used only one side of the field. Hit the ball to right and you’re out. What the Braves need to do is arrange a series of simulated games for Uggla where he just hits against live pitching — JJ on his throw days for one — and anything NOT hit to right field is called an out. Tell him he doesn’t get back into the starting lineup until he makes fewer than 10 outs in a fifty pitch session. Swings and misses and hits to the left side count as outs.

Folks, the Braves cannot “salary dump” Uggla. He has a huge contract with several more years to go. NOBODY will take that contract. The Braves could not GIVE Uggla away. Jurrjens will be arbitration eligible at the end of the year, so the Braves can’t just shut him down for the season and hope for a better 2013. No way they will go to arbitration with him, with Boras as his agent. They should call Boras and tell him that JJ is no longer in their plans, so what does he want them to do, send JJ back to triple-A or designate him for assignment? He deserves to say what he wants, because he helped the club in prior seasons. He just CANNOT stay in the rotation in Atlanta. A sad thing is that Omar Infante has only a few RBI’s fewer than Uggla and a MUCH higher BA, plus a much better glove. Just when the team is getting out from under the Lowe deal, it is stuck with a huge salary obligation to Uggla

Well, all of us would have preferred winning 3 games or 4 (dreaming), so we are disappointed. However, there are somethings we can take from this series. Ben Sheets appears to be for real and there can be no doubt now that we need another reliable starter. Also, bullpen help is needed. The next thing is Dan Uggla — we just can’t keep waiting on Dan to return from the abyss. It is now late July and he (being an almost automatic out) makes it so much easier for the opposing team’s pitcher. Frank Wren/Fredi have a tough decision there. They need to do what is best for the team’s chances to win.

Listening to and reading Fred “the robot” G’s quotes makes Bobby C sound like an intelligent genius. All you can do is just shake your head, oh…. and keep running him back out there, after you tip your cap, of course! Better to tip your cap before you run back out there, it might just fall off. You know, like if you got a cap you just bought, and it’s too big, and you try it on your head, then you look in the mirror, and you say to yourself, “YOU, this looks too big, and if you run back out there, you may just lose your cap. Then you have to bend over and pick it up, after you have spent all that money for it. You know what I mean, Vern? You do get it, don’t you?

Trade FG, Struggla, Hanson and JJ for Upton and move Prado to second. Chipper can be a player coach and do it far more effectively than the current manager. Then find any reliever out there that can go 1-2-3 every once in a blue moon. Call up Delgado and Teheran. Once Simmons is healthy, then our line up might be decent. I mean we got 15 hits in the Giants series and besides the first game, we did get too many more in this series.

“The Cubs are willing to pay a very substantial portion of Soriano’s deal or take back comparably “bad” contracts to make a deal.”
The Cubs need a second baseman. Trade bad contract Uggla for bad contract Soriano. They are both owed exactly 36 million over the rest of their contracts. Move Prado to second base and you have a much better team for the same money. Soriano’s contract ends after 2014 and frees up the money. Uggla’s contract doesn’t end until after 2015.

Hi Amber Girl,
Welcome and realize this is a way for us to release our frustration and unhappiness. It does not suggest we love the team any less. We all want the Braves to do well and were hoping for better. At times, certain players or managing should be challenged or questioned. If we feel as though they are not up to par, we vent. Thanks for coming on board. The Braves will recover and we all hope for a championship to heal many of our broken hearts from years gone by : )

I didn’t see any of today’s game but saw Friday night’s and Saturday night’s. Somebody who has access to more broadcasts please tell me, when is the last time Jason Heyward hit a ball hard? All I saw from him was one groundout to second base after another.

I agree with not giving up on Uggla yet. He’s stinking up the joint but the frustrating point is that he is not making the adjustment or trying to poke the ball into right center or right field. JJ does not have it physically any more. I’m nervous about who were going to give up for Dempster. I think he is more signable after this season than Greinke.

How about an Uggla trade for a good arm or salary dump? Put Prado on 2nd, Constanza at LF. Play Francisco at 3rd, and make him lose weight for next year. Get rid of manager and pitching coach. Try to keep Bourn. Dump Hinske and Diaz. Heck, Ross is a starting catcher on most teams.
I have no faith in JJ, Teheran, Martinex, Durbin, or Moylan.

Everyone, just chill out! Despite the inconsistencies of the young starters and the problems that Uggla is having, the Braves are only three and a half games out. The team will probably add a quality starter before the trade deadline and maybe another right-handed hitter. I still believe in JJ as a pitcher, but he needs to be healthy. Shut him down for the rest of the year so he can physically be stronger. He still has talent, but needs to be healthy. Uggla, on the other hand, needs to be smarter and try to go to the opposite field more. Oh, by the way, lay off on Fredi, too.

Not a bad idea to shut JJ down for the year to get stronger and more healthy..he’s a good guy that wants to do better. An extension with Dempster would make feel better about giving up on some youngsters. Just hated watching 2 of our guys in the all-star game representing Texas.

The Braves’ pitching simply sucks. No two ways about it. Even the good ones aren’t consistent. What was supposed to be a strength for us this season just isn’t. In fact, very often, the pitching becomes a liability. Couple that with hot and cold hitting and Dan Uggla’s growing collection of golden sombreros and you have a team that will be very hard pressed to make even the expanded playoffs. Once Chipper leaves there will be no clutch performed at all on this team. I don’t understand how Jair Jurrjens became so horsesh1t so quickly.

GREINKE’S COST
I just can’t see paying 20 million a year for Greinke, when the Braves have a 90 million dollar payroll — and must pay Uggla 12 million a year for 3 more years.
That’s more than a third of your payroll on just 2 players.

Let’s recall a little baseball history here…Someone name me a rental player at the trade deadline who has put a team over the top to win a world series….The only one I can really think of that put a team over the top albeit they didn’t get to the world series was a couple of years ago when Manny went to the Dodgers…I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t want to see Teheran go for a 35-year old starter or Greinke…Both of them won’t be affordable in the offseason in Atlanta with 20 years of the same TV contract remaining…We need to be smart with our young players and understand that some of you remember the young Glavine and Smoltz days…Remember that this is just Minor’s second full season in the Majors and that this is Delgado’s first…A scout once said that by the end of year three…you know what you have
