Venters pitches scoreless inning in Gwinnett

Washington – Reliever Jonny Venters pitched a perfect inning for Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday night in the first of what’s expected to be a two-game outing in a minor league rehabilitation assignment. Venters threw six pitches, five for strikes, while coaxing two fly-outs and a groundout. If all goes well Sunday, Venters is expected to be activated from the disabled list Tuesday or Wednesday in Miami.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said he plans to start Chipper Jones at third base and catcher David Ross in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against Nationals’ left-hander John Lannan. Unless Jones convinces him otherwise, Gonzalez plans to play Juan Francisco at third base and Brian McCann at catcher in the first game against right-hander Edwin Jackson.

Peter Moylan, who pitched three innings in three games for Single-A Rome, will continue his comeback from shoulder surgery in Double-A Mississippi starting Tuesday. Moylan gave up one run on one hit, one walk and a hit batter on Thursday night for Rome but said via twitter “had more life on my pitches last night. The (hit batter) and a walk are frustrating, but this is still my spring training. Ironing out the kinks.”

Boy, that is some good fielding by Chipper Jones! I believe I could have caught that little grounder.

Big holes in the lineup with that new little shortstop and with Big Dan Uggla not making contact. Add that to some bad pitching and the wide open left side of the infield and you can understand why I am going to turn off the television in a few minutes and wash my hair and paint my toe nails. They don’t deserve their loyal fans.

Someone needs to investigate Fredi; his in game decisions look like “shaving”. Poor fundamentals plus shady managing equal another lost season.

I’ve always liked Dan Uggla but I don’t think his hitting prowess is worth the extended slumps. I also think Tommy Hanson isn’t what he was supposed to be. What can we get for these guys? Certainly this rotation is not what it was supposed to be. We need TWO top pitchers. I tire of Minor but for some reason still maintain some hope. I haven’t the faith any longer in theses ” great pitching prospects” in minors and think we should start using them as currency for some proven talent.

The Braves don’t have it. It’s time to trade Bourn, McCann, Uggla, Hanson & Hudson. Release Diaz & Hinske. Start over and make this team more exciting. They are a boring team.

Pitiful. They stand in the batters box and just swing. Look at their faces no determination at all. Look at Strasburg when he bats, he has adetermined look when he bats.I think you can play without acting the fool but these Braves need to play with some urgency when they hold that bat!!!!

What is a loyal fan suppose to be wetdirt and idiot like u? The ATL isn’t what it use to be anymore and I would say you are the one that should move on. This is a poor excuse for baseball and fans like you just make them less likely to improve the club. They should hire TP or David Justice to manage this team and if they won’t do it they should get the Rangers manager.

If Frank Wren lets Dempster and Greinke go somewhere else the Braves season is over. It’s obvious to everyone that this pitching staff as it is is not good enough.

I had to go check. The comments here are so negative I thought the Braves must be in the cellar. But no. They’re 3.5 (soon to be 4.5) out of first and would be in the wild card play-in game (against the Pirates) with the fifth best record. After today there are 70 games left in the season.

I wish the Braves were playing better but they are far from Houston or Colorado. Baseball is a game of failure. Hitters struggle and have slumps. Pitchers have a small margin of error against major league hitters. It’s easy to root for a team as a front runner but real fans support their team during the slumps.

I said the same thing too on my FB page, JC. I had a bad feeling too. But you know the Braves had a runner at 3rd with one out.. and Prado had a little league at bat there. We’ll see what happens now. Once Kimbrell is gone, though, it’s dicey.

In the top of the 9th, pitcher all over the place, 2 runs in, 1 out, man on 3rd. Prado turns in what has to be one of the worst at bats of the year. Swings at the first pitch which is 6 inchs outside. Takes a homerun cut on the next pitch. Then strikes out. All he had to do was shorten his swing, choke up on the bat and put the ball in play and the Braves add an insurance run. Instead, this rally might have been for nothing.

Kings of Choking, have said it all along. Now they have allowed the Nats to regain momentum. So they can score all those runs to take the lead, but they can’t get Bourn in from 3rd with 1 out? Again, kings of choking.

What makes me really mad is that now that useless big red idiot Tommy Hanson won’t get a loss that he so much deserved. Why bail his dumb ass out when he constantly puts the team in those positions? I would take a Braves win and a Hanson no decision, but if they lose this game and Hanson still gets a no decision where he deserved a loss.

__________________________________________________________________

The reason I put that is that they did a stat a couple of weeks ago and it showed that the Braves pitchers give back a lead a lot of the time when the offense rallies and ties or gets the lead late in the game about 60-70 % of the time. It happened Wed night and it happened tonight. It happens too often.

Don’t think Dempster is the answer. Certainly, not good enough to give up Minor. Dempster hit only 89 at the highest tonight in a loss to Cards. Let LA have him.

Something must be wrong with Greinke. No team gives someone a rest to regroup. Braves should pass on him too.

Maybe, Garza, if he can hit 92 MPH. We already have 3 who can’t reach 90 MPH: JJ, Hanson, and Hudson.

Larry, it is hilarious to see you CRYING about Labrenda for doing the exact same that you do, and telling that you would make the racial comment… I guess you’re not only an expert at the game because you “used to be pretty good”, but also a typical cracker, too… (it’s time for you to get a new life, boy… run along… )… for the rest of you snivelers, Labrenda included, when, when, when, when, when will you jagoffs ever learn? You don’t, can’t, won,t learn the game… it would be so much more enjoyable for you if you would… perpetual crying will lead you to sore ribs, and be a source of constant embarassment for your children…. I can see Father’s Day at the school, when students bring their fathers in to talk about what they do…

TEACHER: “Little Johnny, please introduce your dad and tell us what he does!”

LITTLE JOHNNY: “This is my dad… his name is Johnny Senior, but we all affectionately refer to:
him as A.C.Cry-a-lot… He goes around telling everyone in every walk of life
how to do things the right way, and cries a lot while he does it… He is
grooming us all to be snot-filled know-it-alls… We know he doesn’t know
much about anything, but he’s all we’ve got, and he is the absolute best
when it comes to being a whineyassed armchair… “

Venters active for today. Could really help. Also, I would love to see us pick up Ankiel and DFA Hinski or send the Rev back down. Lastly, they better not give up Minor for Dempster.
