AT his contract disqualifies him for the braves.
In what ways?
he makes $13mil next year, and then has a player option for $13mil in ‘14. its too much for him, and is basically guaranteed, since, of course he will decide he wants to make $13mil in ‘14. it would make him our highest paid pitcher by far. maybe our highest paid player in ‘14.

Arkansas Transplant, the point is it’s not a blind assumption. It’s based on how the details of how he’s performed, not just a wild guess. I’m not going to argue about semantics.
The point is I would be okay with getting Dempster but I hope the Braves don’t give up much because, in spite of his ERA, he’s at best a 35-year-old, middle-of-the-rotation starter whose contract expires after the season. There’s value in that kind of pitcher, obviously. But the Braves shouldn’t give up much.

It would be a good time for our Black Hole at 2nd base to wake up out his funk. Our options are not too good at this point…Marteeen at 2nd is fine, but Diaz or Hinske are not much better in left than Uggla at second. It sure would be nice to have Infante right now or even Conrad would be better than what we have now. Hopefully if we trade for a pitcher, we can get a middle IF or corner OF too.
I feel like Dusty Springfield….Wishing and Hoping!

Fredi should not depend on the one game playoff?
George, just where in hell do you come up with this crap? Why do you think that thought ever crossed his mind in regards to this season? We’re within a couple of games of the division lead with 70 games left. I would seriously doubt that any manager in contention and that close to a lead would even be contemplating the WC at this point in time.

Ouch! But once again a team shows they want to win and you are gone if not producing. Braves would have made him a cake and started him on his birthday. Braves are too nice to win anything. Nats beat down coming this weekend.

The TV info is listed under “Schedule” then “Broadcast Information”.

This statement I can definitely agree with. I wouldn’t give up any major prospects for his services either.

Wren will not give up one of the big three pitching prospects for two months of Dempster even if the Cubs agree to pay most of his salary. I think the trade would be Zeke Spruill or David Hale + one or possibly two lesser prospects for Dempster and $3M of his remaining contract paid by Cubs.

Braves will not have to face Gio this weekend. He and Strasburg are the two studs in the Nats starting rotation. Strasburg is a great young pitcher, but we’ve had better-than-most success against him. Wish we had Huddy going, but we needed his effort yesterday. GO BRAVES!

Dempster’s making $13 mil now – not so certain he signs for less than that going forward and he’s already 35.
He might make a differenc eright now, but I’m not certain I’d sign him to any more than a two year deal – if that.

Lew, yeah, I think 2 years at $8M-$10M, at most, is fair for Dempster. I think he might be forced to take that kind of cut because I think most teams realize what he is and isn’t.

I would think of offering Dempster two yrs for 13 mil per, but would have to take a closer look at the budget before I commit to it.
I don’t think I want to go more than two cause of his age. But his history of being good vs Washington is tempting to slightly overpay.

the cubs have a surplus of OF prospects now especially with the signing of Soler. They may want to trade one in for a top tier pitching prospect. Brett Jackson plus Dempster for Minor or Delgado will be the angle. No way in h e double hockey sticks do they get one of those 2 without a significant prospect to go with Dempster.
If I were Wren – no prospect, no deal. Move on to Liriano and Shields

Davey Johnson will show Fredi how real manager works in this series. The same Davey Johnson who once hit 40 homers in a season for our braves. Also Hank aaron and Darrell Evans had 40 or more. Let’s see what Fredi did in the majors, oh that’s right he never made it.

As much as Uggly makes my stomach burn with his god-awful “hitting” of late, we’ve got to play the guy.
Frankly, I’m hoping others can keep carrying the team until about Sept. 10 or so when I’d like to see Uggly revert to July 2011 form and stay that way for 7 weeks or so.
Otherwise, he goes on a tear soon and the inevitable collapse to awful happens just when we least need it.
Or maybe we should just fire FG since he never hit 40 dingers….

Just a thought, but if Liberty has authorized Wren to spend on a big contract, why does it have to be a pitcher? I would much rather they put together a package to get David Wright. Then move Chipper to the bench to upgrade that sore spot. If that were to happen, I could live with Sheets, Hudson, Hanson, Jurrjens, and Minor.
