@Mark — Correct, I would be happy to see him take 30 points off the OBP and hit .250 with more HRs and RBI’s. _ Disgusted

Why in the hell would you want to take points off his OBP. I would prefer more hits to go along with the increased walk rate, or if I have to trade how about and even swap, a hit for a walk.

@Bat Masterson — A hit with men on base produces runs.

What does a menaingless walk produce if no runs are scored. OBP is nice, and I want a high OBP for a number one or two hitter, but if I have a guy whom I am depending on driving the ball in the middle of the lineup I want hits, HRS and RBI’s.

Right now Uggla is not producing anything and how much #$@# longer are you supposed to wait, this has gone on for a good 120 to 130 ABS. A batting average of .217 and not producing runs. That is not productive.

As long as Uggla can walk, but not hit, let him bat 8th. At least if he gets on with a BB, the pitcher can attempt to bunt him over. And if it’s Hudson pitching, he’ll probably succeed.

When/if Dan starts making contact again, then move him in a more appropriate place in the lineup.

I want hits with men on base Bat Masterson. That often produces runs.

What do you get when you get a hit with a runner on second. Most of the time you get a run.

If you get a walk, you get a runner on first and second.

OBP regarding Uggla

Which would you want Uggla to do tomorrow vs the Nats ?

0 for 1 – 3 walks – 1 K – no Rbis – and by some miracle Janish drives him in once.
or
1 for 4 with a single and 2 rbis.

Bottom line, Ugglas OBP is not helping us win games.

Mark — Even the hardest core sabergeek would take the 2 RBI’s.

What produces runs??????? Why, its hits with men on base.

Now, a walk is better than an out but when you are in the middle of the lineup, you are paid to produce RBIS and extra base hits.

In Uggla’s case he is not having a good year. Plain and simple. Had he not had that crazy hot stretch last yr he would not have had a good yr last yr either.

I am disappointed in Uggla and hope he can do better in the future. He was always streaky but not to this extreme in his Marlin days.

Come on Nolie and Bat, he is hitting in the .210’s. He is not helping them in plain English.

Mark, as to Uggla and the OBP… I think even Uggla supporters will for the most part admit that he’s having a bad year so far. He has shown in the past that he tends to rally, with vengeance, and I guess that’s what we’re hoping for. In the meantime, I give him credit for running out every at bat (if he makes contact, lol) and playing solid defense.

The walks do make the lack of actual production much more palatable.

b, Constanza had 10 great games in 2011, his first 10 in the majors. Hit .421/.436/.579 for those 10 games.

Even then, anyone who knew baseball probably knew it wouldn’t last. He had 1 walk – ONE – in 40 plate appearances. And his BABIP was .441, which is an absurd, unsustainable number.

Since those 10 days, starting on 8/9/11, he has posted a .243/.278/.282 line, with 5 walks, 1 2b, and 1 hr, in 103 major league at-bats.

Criticize players after they leave on bad terms but never say a harsh or truthful word about them during their time with the Braves.
