Why is what he did in Triple-A not something we should look at? Don’t we care about results at all?
Well, for me, if he were a prospect, I’d look at it. But given he has been in the majors and was sent down to “work on things” I wouldn’t look at it. Say he was sent down to strength his leg, then the results wouldn’t be immediate. Say it was to work on a curve ball, he’d be throwing that thing all day long. It’d be like looking at ST stats and making proclamations based upon them… which, why aren’t you by the way?
“If they win a wild card, Grienke would likely be starting a ONE game playoff, and I absolutely want the best possible pitcher we can have in that situation.”
You DON’T want Greinke pitching in a one game playoff. That is for sure. I’m not convinced he really is a big game pitcher, hasn’t pitched well in the playoffs yet in his career.
“he is a capable backup SS, 2B, 3B and outfielder, including CF. he played a good bit of SS while with the braves.”
Got ya. Well in that case I’d love to have him back. Really isn’t a place for him in the outfield any more. Maybe LF if Prado is at third…so really his most likely place would be at SS currently. But he always was a good bat off the bench, and certainly a great bat off the bench on THIS team.
Im confused. Sheets is back becuase of a great start, we cant judge JJ on his bad start, and we dont want Greinke becuase of 3 starts. Hard keeping up with all of this.
If I calculated correctly, the Braves started by losing 4 in a row. After that they won 5, lost 1. For the season so far, the streaks of amount of games won will be first followed by the streaks of amount of games lost: 0-4, 5-1, 5-2, 3-1, 1-2, 1-1, 3-1, 1-1, 3-1, 1-1, 2-1, 1-8, 2-1, 6-4, 1-3, 3-2, 2-2, 1-2, 1-1, 7-1. The lost 8 in a row once, 4 in a row twice, and 3 in a row once. They’ve won 7 in a row once, 6 in a row once and 5 in a row twice. They are 23-19 in those two sets of streak.
Sheets is free, Jurrjens is at what…$5-7 million? Greinke is going to be at $20 million? It has less to do with the number of stars, and more to do with how much you are paying a guy to put up numbers in those starts.
MFin04, a couple of those BAD STARTS in the postseason for Greinke are as good or better as those games you are calling GOOD STARTS for Jurrjens in the last couple of weeks.
“a couple of those BAD STARTS in the postseason for Greinke are as good or better as those games you are calling GOOD STARTS for Jurrjens in the last couple of weeks.”
No they aren’t and he is going to get paid 3 to 4 times as much for those starts?!?
Plus, I didn’t know we were paying a pitcher 20mil. I know we’re paying a 2nd baseman 12mil to stink it up on a nightly basis. I know, why not move Uggla to the starting rotation in place of JJ? That way he’ll only hit us with the bat once every 5 days and you remove JJ from the rotation.. that’s a win-win.
Greinke has a career 3.80 ERA in 217 starts. Hasn’t had a single good start in the playoffs. I’m just not going to pay him $20 million for that. Too much for a guy that is unproven in the playoffs, and really has only had one dominant season in 9 years which really looks like an anomaly in comparison to his other seasons.
Greinke also has a career 3.43 FIP and has been one of the most valuable arms in the game since 2008. (don’t forget that his ERA is skewed high due to his 2005 and 2006 seasons ,when he was very young, since 2007 his ERA is around 3.30)
MLB Trade Rumors just reported that Braves are close to a deal wih he Cubs for Dempster. and that Cubs will eat some pof Dempster’s salary. Wadda you hear?
GoDaddy was founded in 1997 as Jomax Technologies by Bob Parsons, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Prior to GoDaddy, Parsons sold his financial software services company, “Parsons Technology, Inc.” to Intuit. The sale provided him with several millions of dollars in the mid-1990s. As a result, Parsons decided to retire. In 1997, Bob Parsons came out of his retirement to launch a new company, Jomax Technologies which later became GoDaddy Group Inc…..

3 BAD STARTS, ZERO GOOD STARTS. If you are paying a guy $20 million a year, he better be able to put up a career ERA better than his near 4.00.
Not to mention he has pitched terribly in all 3 of his playoff starts with a 6.48 ERA.

I dont’ know if the Braves can afford Greinke, but I would sure like to have him if can? If not? My top two are Liriano, and Dempster.
