“TM” I think FG needs to put some “spies” out to see what the Braves players do on their Sunday nights before a Monday game, and on Mondays when they are off at home. Beginning to get kinda strange? In other words, today would be their Monday this week since they were off yesterday. I’m gonna count this as another MONDAY loss.

Murph do you watch the games, honestly? Or do you just have to hate on Jurrjens for everything. He didn’t pitch great tonight, but he really wasn’t the cause of all the runs. The defense was really bad behind him tonight, the ump screwed him early on and made him throw more pitches, and he made a bad play missing the bag in the big inning. This game was a few plays away from stilling being tied. It isn’t and they are down 9-0, I get that. But to act like this was some terrible meltdown and that he isn’t a good pitcher who has had 4 great starts besides tonight, is ridiculous.

Murph

July 17th, 2012

MFin, I did watch… right up until they were down 8-0. Then I put on America’s Got Talent.

I won’t deny that JJ has had 4 good starts… problem is, that’s 4 out of 9 starts this season. That doesn’t count all the eggs he laid in AAA.

A good pitcher recovers from defensive miscues, even if they are his own, and gets the outs. JJ did not. 8 hits and 3 walks is 8 hits and 3 walks, whether he should have been out of an inning or not.

I’m not hating. JJ’s 2012 campaign speaks for itself. It’s been more bad than good. That’s not up for debate, the results speak for themselves.

We’ll see how he does his next time out. Another start like this and he isn’t likely to be in the rotation for long.

HERE IS A FUNDAMENTAL QUESTION THAT I WOULD LIKE SOME OPINIONS ON:

if you r not good enough to win the world series….and we r not….i would rather lose games, trade vets, get prospects and try again to build a winner…..the ABSOLUTE worst thing to do is to always be an average team that can win some games and can make the playoffs but never go much further. it seems the braves are FOREVER stuck in this state where we always make trades for this year, trade prospects, maybe squeeze in the playoffs but thats it. just commit to a rebuild purge the payroll trade for some prospects and try to build a team that can win the WORLD SERIES. that is the goal remember, NOT to win 90 games.

It was an odd start for Jair, Didn’t really get hit hard, didn’t really get any calls, didn’t really get a good defensive effort behind him tonight, and to add insult to injury missed 1st base which started the whole thing. He wasn’t great, but I don’t think he was as bad as his line indicates.

Hope to see him bounce back next start. Crap games happen, not gonna judge him based on that or the beginning of the year. Guy is 3-1 in 5 starts for us since coming back and he has been a good pitcher for us.

the goal is to win the world series sure, but the first goal is just to make the playoffs, with the addition of the first wildcard making that a crap shoot and ,diminishing the value of having the best record, it’s really what’s important, now with 2 wildcard teams, it’s gonna be an even bigger crap shoot.

If every team who wasnt guaranteed to have the best record followed your philosophy the game would just be a merry go round of new players every single year. The Braves are doing it right, building from within and due to their successful record thus far, looking to improve externally.

If they traded all their vets they would suck for 3 more years and no matter who they picked up, have no guarantee of a world series (ask the Yankees, they spent over $2 billion dollars over the past 10 years and have 1 world series to show for it)

MLB and NBA playoffs are completely different. Something like 8 different teams have won an NBA championship in 30 years. That league just doesn’t spread the wealth and their playoffs are a marathon where the strong usually survive while the MLB playoffs are more like a sprint. One good hot streak can win you the whole thing.
