Sheets goes 6 innings gives up 2 hits and zero runs. Medlen goes 1 inning gives up 2 hits 1 run. Maybe we need to pick u a couple of decent relief pitchers at this point in the season!!

I think if Sheets has a second consecutive good outing, you can probably forget about Wren trading for another pitcher. Would that be a good decision? Only time would tell I suppose.

And I don’t see how a 2.96 ERA and 1.12 WHIP is disappointing. Sure, they guy is not Kimbrel, but he’s pitched better than anyone else on the roster not named Kimbrel.

what was disrespectful about what I said in regards to Medlen?
My argument is backed up by his 4.23 ERA while starting his mediocre performance the past month, and the 5.5 runs of support he got as a starter before that made his win totals look better than he actually pitched

I would say MEDS results after TJ are not as good as beforecwithout consulting the stats. But next season, he’ll be the old MEDS again. He’s remained aggressive throughout at least.

Medlen is perfect in the longer relief role. That’s his clear niche.
He gave up one stinking run up 6.

Now, if we can get the good Johnny Venters back and if Minor can go on a nice run this month do we really have to pay big for another SP?????\
Stay tuned for the rest of July. Things going good as of late. The problems and needs of a team can change in a short time, who would thought we would be needing a shortstop a week and a half ago.

Illini- Agree to an extent. Meds unlike Minor and Delgado doesn’t turn to Jell-O if he gives up a run or two. He will challenge hitters in the strike zone instead of nibbling which causes many of the problems that Minor and Delgado have and is the case with many rookie starters. Meds has a bulldog mentality on the mound and isn’t afraid to fail. He competes. His stuff in pretty good and why he should have been in the 5 spot since the season began. You can’t have two inexperienced pitchers like that in the back half of your rotation. It puts too much pressure on your bullpen and top half of the rotation to produce quality starts.

Medlen is a work in progress comming off a serious injury where he missed alot of time & he does not have that much experience either.
In essence, in a way he is somewhat of a prospect whom you hope is stronger next yr and has more upside.
Not giving up on him. Want to see what he is about in 2013. He is still learning the game.
The role he currently is in is the right role for him right now.
Best boost we can have in the second half is getting the good Johnny Venters back.

Wren will get another starter, regardless of what Sheets does in his next few starts. Minor goes to the pen. Now how Sheets does might say what caliber starter Wren will get, maybe.

Meds is a good pitcher, but not as great as some here like to think. He is definitely an asset in his current position, and is even more valuable because he could start in an emergency

@IlliniBrave — The good Johnny Venters could be back given that he has had some time off away from the game as far as having to be out there day in and day out.
The DL stint might do him good lets hope so. He could not fall down could he unless something physically is really wrong.

It will be tough, but not impossible yet. Have to wait that one out this off season.
As I said, the org has to sign two of the three among Prado, Bourn and B-Mac. And build around the nucleus.
I know I have said it before but I am looking forward to the 3 yr stretch between 2014 and 16 when this nucleus should be really special. And some of the kids in the lower minors like Lipka and one of two more might be real contributors.
Who says Salcedo cannot get his game together and be a servicable defensive player he is still 20 or 21. Can he be around in two or three yrs — maybe???????
The potential I see in 2 yrs is why I am hesitant about making a blockbuster deal where they give up too much and spend too much on the wrong guy.
