nolie, well get it all out of your system, all of you, and let us get our thinking caps on. We’re sitting around this table debating on who to target and who could be expendable. Now I still like Greinke, but the rumors/debate of him possibly being injured worried me away a bit. Shields would be great, but who’s to say the talk of him being out there is even true. Dempster, Garza, Liriano – out of those, Dempster would be my choice, but he’s already inhigh demand, apparantly.
I will take requests or ideas …

Tiger – you would then have a case of duplicity. And the first fellow is doing one hell of a job. I haven’t seen too many ski lift commercials where the guy wants to start dating his friends X lately but it summer. But that shouldn’t bother AT&T. They can sign you up and have 8 upgrades done by the time snow is on the ground.

Shields has a pretty hefty option for the next two years. 9 million in 2013 and 12 million in 2014. Both team options.
For his track record, that seems a bit high to me.

I think it’s a bargain for a guy with his track record, he has outpitched the rather mediocre tampa defense in a very tough AL east, he would be a stud in the NL (not to mention he was 4th in the Cy Young voting last year) apparently he’s been frustrated with the Rays lack of run support and defense

Dempster in high demand is one thing if a team could have him more than a few months. He will cost too much I think for two months since teams are already buzzing their bell on him. Not worth it.

…..This Saturday, {getting ahead; I know}….In our double dip with D.C., Johnson has implied that lefty John Lannan will make his 2012 debut vs. us…..guy has been at AAA Syracuse all year and, if you recall, he opened up pitching both the 2009 and 2010 season openers for Wash.

Side note – I think that’s one reason I’m good at my job (if I can brag….). Some of the others….carnies…..went to school exclusively for math. They’re geniuses. But we don’t work with geniuses. They’re too smart for their own good. But I go over this stuff the way that I learned it (which in some cases was pretty recent)

Northcutt is building prospect value this year, perez still has a tiny bit of value, Francisco is the perfect player for them to stick at 3rd and let him learn while they rebuild, they aren’t gonna get much for Soriano and they know they are gonna have to pay out the wazoo to move him
It may take a bit more than that, but I don’t see any team moving a top 10 prospect for Soriano

Hello everyone! I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, and I think the best option is trade for Dempster, or Liriano, and Josh Willingham package. I think the Liriano, and Josh Willingham package would be better…Put together a package to get Josh Willingham, and Liriano. I like Dempster, but now leaning on this one! Liriano, and Josh Willingham.

Good question for this year, but next year you could start him in LF, and play Prado at 3rd. This year you could rotate him with Prado, and Prado with Chipper. Until next year.

Twins aren’t actively shopping Willingham, anyway.
Willingham says he wants to stay in Minnesota, even after his 3-year contract ends in 2014.

Ward, I’m not so sure that the Braves have much to offer other teams in the way of prospects, anyway. Teheran has been off all year, and Delgado hasn’t been very impressive, either.
I’m not keeping up on the “A” levels, but I don’t see an awful lot of stars shining at AA & AAA.

Normally, I would take that to mean you don’t want someone that’s going to be a free agent after the season. However, I DID say, normally. I’m not so sure about you being normal.

Liriano would be cheaper, Ward, as you said. But there’s no guarantee that he’d sign with the Braves after this season. He’s still going to be a free agent. If he continues to pitch well, he’ll probably be able to sign for some big bucks. But with his track record, he can come crashing back to earth on his next start. Talk about inconsistency…

According to the article that nolie posted Sunday, there are 10 teams interested in Dempster. 10 teams!!!
I wouldn’t count on beating them all out – and even if you give up what it takes to get him, he’s still a FA after the season is over.
I like Dempster too, but not at what it’s going to cost. It would be the Tiexiera deal all over, again!
