nolie, well get it all out of your system, all of you, and let us get our thinking caps on. We’re sitting around this table debating on who to target and who could be expendable. Now I still like Greinke, but the rumors/debate of him possibly being injured worried me away a bit. Shields would be great, but who’s to say the talk of him being out there is even true. Dempster, Garza, Liriano – out of those, Dempster would be my choice, but he’s already inhigh demand, apparantly.
Tiger – you would then have a case of duplicity. And the first fellow is doing one hell of a job. I haven’t seen too many ski lift commercials where the guy wants to start dating his friends X lately but it summer. But that shouldn’t bother AT&T. They can sign you up and have 8 upgrades done by the time snow is on the ground.
I think it’s a bargain for a guy with his track record, he has outpitched the rather mediocre tampa defense in a very tough AL east, he would be a stud in the NL (not to mention he was 4th in the Cy Young voting last year) apparently he’s been frustrated with the Rays lack of run support and defense
Dempster in high demand is one thing if a team could have him more than a few months. He will cost too much I think for two months since teams are already buzzing their bell on him. Not worth it.
Not what you typed, which was square root of 2 times 90 squared…sorry, without parenthesis that is absolutely wrong. And what kind of human being doesn’t just use a 45-45-90 triangle?
we send the Cubs 4 guys like Adam Northcutt, Carlos Perez,a low level arm and Francisco for Soriano (80% of contract paid) Shawn Camp and Reed Johnson,
Camp takes a pen spot, Reed Johnson and Soriano displace Francisco and Diaz, (and is a $4 mill LF’er next year )
AT&T did have one commercial about the actress that got her first part in a commercial. It was wierd, it seemed almost to want to connect with people and not irritate them.
…..This Saturday, {getting ahead; I know}….In our double dip with D.C., Johnson has implied that lefty John Lannan will make his 2012 debut vs. us…..guy has been at AAA Syracuse all year and, if you recall, he opened up pitching both the 2009 and 2010 season openers for Wash.
You know I’m kidding right tiger? Mercy, I can get as silly as anybody. No way do I take this stuff seriously. I love my team, but my life is full of obstacles everyday. Not seeing things easing up any time soon either. I’m ready and willing. Bring it!

They’re too smart for their own good. But I go over this stuff the way that I learned it (which in some cases was pretty recent)
Northcutt is building prospect value this year, perez still has a tiny bit of value, Francisco is the perfect player for them to stick at 3rd and let him learn while they rebuild, they aren’t gonna get much for Soriano and they know they are gonna have to pay out the wazoo to move him
It may take a bit more than that, but I don’t see any team moving a top 10 prospect for Soriano
I suspect the Cubs will try and piece out their players (like a 74 Nova) to maximize return value, but Camp brings a low level guy, same as Johnson, Soriano will probably bring 2 middle level guys and that’s it……
Hello everyone! I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, and I think the best option is trade for Dempster, or Liriano, and Josh Willingham package. I think the Liriano, and Josh Willingham package would be better…Put together a package to get Josh Willingham, and Liriano. I like Dempster, but now leaning on this one! I hope Braves don’t go crazy for some patch starter this season. I like the rotation next year. Let the young guys learn now. That seemed to help a few HOF pitchers in 1990 on the Braves.
Coach – I think instead of propsects for one player trade for two. I like the idea of Liriano now, sounds more like Wrens profile. Get Josh Willingham in a two for two player deal. Makes more since to me. Liriano, and Willingham in one trade.
This whole deal is cheaper than all the others. I like Dempster, but not for Rental. Too costly, and same for Greinke. Long terms yes, but no rentals. I like Liriano, and Wllingham. Makes more since.
I seriously doubt anybody in the Braves organization is thinking about anything other than adding another arm. Now maybe if a third team got involved…who knows, maybe Willingham could also be moved.
Good question for this year, but next year you could start him in LF, and play Prado at 3rd. This year you could rotate him with Prado, and Prado with Chipper. Until next year.
Ward, I’m not so sure that the Braves have much to offer other teams in the way of prospects, anyway. Teheran has been off all year, and Delgado hasn’t been very impressive, either.
I’m not keeping up on the “A” levels, but I don’t see an awful lot of stars shining at AA & AAA.
My top pitchers than are Liriano SP, Dempster, and then Greinke. I would go with Liriano now, because I don’t feel comfortable with a Rental…… Greinke would be costly.
Bobby H – I’m learining to just read the rumors, but don’t take them the heart. They change every day, and Wren, will throw us a curve, and surprise us all. Just like Janish, no one saw that one coming.
BTW, Ward, you said: I would go with Liriano now, because I don’t feel comfortable with a Rental……
Normally, I would take that to mean you don’t want someone that’s going to be a free agent after the season. However, I DID say, normally. I’m not so sure about you being normal.
You do know that Liriano is a FA after this season, right?
Ward, if you want to read the rumors, that’s up to you. But it wouldn’t hurt you to do a little more research on the players you want the Braves to acquire. That’s what your computer is good for.
Bobby H – Liriano would be a cheaper way to go, and Wren would be able to sgin him for less. That’s if Wren went that way? Like a 3 or 4 year deal to keep Liriano. It’s hard to say …….If Garza would’ve pitched bette?. I would be thinking differently. I like Dempster a lot. Only if Wren signs him for 3 years.
Liriano would be cheaper, Ward, as you said. But there’s no guarantee that he’d sign with the Braves after this season. He’s still going to be a free agent. If he continues to pitch well, he’ll probably be able to sign for some big bucks. But with his track record, he can come crashing back to earth on his next start. Talk about inconsistency…
Hard to decide isn’t it? I would sign Dempster to three years. He’s 34 , and I think he has three years in his tank. I wouldn’t want him for just 1, or 2 years.
According to the article that nolie posted Sunday, there are 10 teams interested in Dempster. 10 teams!!!
I wouldn’t count on beating them all out – and even if you give up what it takes to get him, he’s still a FA after the season is over.
I like Dempster too, but not at what it’s going to cost. It would be the Tiexiera deal all over, again!
Bobby H – I can see your point. It’s better than taking a Greinke risk, or Garza after the way he pitched against the Braves. I don’t think the Braves will have to give up that much for Dempster, and Liriano, and Dempster will be great down the stretch.
Bobby H – Good talking as always. Might have got my butt kicked in this debate, but I’m making my decision on Liriano, or Dempster, and will wait to see what Wren does on a bat, if he decides too? Have a good one friend, and Peace my friends….”Go!!!!!Braves!!!!!”

It’s the square root of 2(90^2)
Are you drunk (since you do not drink it seems unlikely)…
Okay, first, who said I don’t drink???
Second, it’s a^2 + b^2 = c^2
A is home to first (90). B is first to second (90). C is home to second.
So it’s 90^2 + 90^2 = c^2 OR 2(90^2) = c^2
sqrt(2*90^2) = c = 127.279

Meant to say Garza pitched better? I would be thinking differently now. Wren is full of surprises, so I guess the waiting continues….

Dempster is a little old for a three year contract IMO

Hard to decide isn’t it? I would sign Dempster to three years. He’s 34 , and I think he has three years in his tank. I wouldn’t want him for just 1, or 2 years.

Final two pitchers would be Liriano, or Dempster. Final Decision.

he’s 35 this season, means 36, 37 and 38 with three years. not a great idea perhaps

Funny………Dempster has pitched good so for this year, and still I think he can pitch for three more years if the Braves go that way?

If a team is going to trade for a player that’s going to become a FA, can they talk to that player about signing a contract before the deal is made?

Bobby H – Good talking as always. Might have got my butt kicked in this debate, but I’m making my decision on Liriano, or Dempster, and will wait to see what Wren does on a bat, if he decides too? Have a good one friend, and Peace my friends….”Go!!!!!Braves!!!!!”
