yeah tiger, thats the current thinking…my strategy and I’m sticking to it.
A-B I think Ozzie is a competent in game manager, not really his problem
*should read pre-bashing…
In a one run game with a shaky pen against a good team, you get that extra run however you can
My thoughts exactly. Earl Weaver had it right. If they want to give us an out, we’ll take it.
The A Bomb
Yeah I’m sure for some of you it make you throw up in your mouths.
But I’m of the belief that once in awhile you change the cadence of how you manage.
EXAMPLE: Mets were sitting on Hanson’s curveball the other night. They were stealing signs. But Fredi had ZERO idea of that.
what danga said…
Steve from OH
You have a guy on 2nd in scoring position, and you call for two consecutive bunts? Sickening.
But…smallball! Tradition! Grit! Whitey!
July 16th, 201210:04 pm
cab – shaky pen makes me want to play for a big inning even more
Bell K’s Morse to end the 8th…
MIAMI 5 WASHINGTON 3 BOT 8
Ozzie seems to have the Bobby V problem of thinking that everybody came to the stadium to listen to him talk afterwards
don’t mean this as pile on a-bomb so I’ll shut up about it now
July 16th, 201210:05 pm
Yeah 2 straight bunts = SABERMETRICS DEFCON 5. End of the world.
MIAMI 5 WASHINGTON 3 BOT 8
But is Bell not the closer anymore?
I can take it tiger — no worries.
Whitey vs Earl.
I’m all for shaking things up from time to time, but I just don’t like the bunt normally. (unless it’s the pitcher getting a runner over with less than 2 outs) Once in a while I like going for a single run when you are up against a big arm.
two bunts? yes sickening. even Fredo is not that dumb. talk about playing for one run and nothing more in a situation where one run is not necessarily a game winner…..
maybe I will take back that endorsement of Ozzie’s competency
July 16th, 201210:06 pm
Yeah Wayne, kinda had an inkling that something was up when my doctor’s office requested I come in this morning.
July 16th, 201210:07 pm
How many years before Loria gets rid of Ozzie? I’ll give him 2 years.
In a one run game with a shaky pen against a good team
I think I’d want more than one.
not a fan of non pitcher bunts either (unless it’s late/close and one run is needed to tie or win)
July 16th, 201210:08 pm
How many years before Loria gets rid of Ozzie? I’ll give him 2 years.
If Fredi was too much for him, then my gosh…I’m surprised Ozzie made it through April
Yeah, more than one would be nice, but the Fish, especially without Stanton, do not have a lot of fire power…
Or what tiger said…
July 16th, 201210:09 pm
In a one run game with a shaky pen against a good team, you get that extra run however you can…cab
be a helluva lot better off getting more than one run which two bunts just about guarantees ain’t gonna happen
My grandpa died from that in ‘79, but there’s been a heckuva lot of medical advancements in the past 30 years. I’ll send one up for you tonight buddy.
Awful lot of grumpy people here…
knowing Loria, wouldn’t be surprised to seem him have a fire sale after this season
July 16th, 201210:11 pm
Hey, I’m generally not a fan of giving up an out to move the runner over, but sometimes, you gotta do what you’re best at…
plus, they had their best hitter (Reyes) get the first bunt with a runner on 2nd. That’s kinda like having Chipper or Prado bunt over somebody with no outs.
Nah, I don’t like it.
But I sure love to watch a well executed squeeze!
July 16th, 201210:12 pm
Hey! Name’s Jeff.
July 16th, 201210:13 pm
July 16th, 201210:14 pm
It’s not really any different than Marteen hitting to the right side to move a runner from 2nd to 3rd…
cab – bunting him to 2nd don’t bother me…a squeeze don’t bother me either. Bunting a runner to 3B and then squeezing him is pretty brutal.
especially when you used your 1&2 hitters to do it
Like I said, best managers are the ones that are unpredictable. And Guillen despite his insanity does have a ring, so…..
eah 2 straight bunts = SABERMETRICS DEFCON 5. End of the world….A-B
nah just means gross managerial stupidity. if they loose it is all on Ozzie…..
July 16th, 201210:15 pm
Now if Reyes had bunted the ball over the left field foul pole, all of you would hold a massive celebration.
July 16th, 201210:16 pm
cab – teen hitting the ball to right isn’t a bunt. There is always a chance of a walk or hit in that case. Much more than with a bunt
Dunn into close for the Marlins.
Agreed (on Prado hitting to right). But when a player is hitting well, I’d rather he try to drive something in the alley.
must not bite on nolie’s grammatical taunt… lol
Miami’s up by 2….why are we talking like Washington’s winning?
July 16th, 201210:17 pm
you know there is a middle ground between a sac bunt and a HR ….. a single scores the runner from 2nd, as does a double a triple, or an OF error
a-bomb – I think most of us here prefer to watch him make outs
July 16th, 201210:18 pm
I know it’s not a bunt. But the result is generally the same. You trade an out to move the runner up. And with the speed of Reyes and Bonifacio, the chances of a bunt single are better than with most guys…
2 down, runner on first (Harper)
July 16th, 201210:19 pm
If Reyes is their best hitter everyone on the team should bunt…
(and I would agree that having him bunt was insane)…
at least Martin has some chance of getting a hit, much more so than off a sac bunt
Also multiple ways to move a runner over that do not equal automatic out.
July 16th, 201210:20 pm
votto having knee surgery
July 16th, 201210:21 pm
no the result is not the same, there is more room to get a hit through the right side which is one of the reasons that so many of the great hitters are lefties
did I not just say that…nolie stealing my lines
Check out this Marteen Prado Bat trick.
July 16th, 201210:22 pm
Everyone should probably just bunt each time up….
say them sooner so I can see them b4 responding to previous posts tiger
July 16th, 201210:23 pm
FOX Sports South @FOXSportsSouth

Craig Kimbrel highlight video.
July 16th, 201210:24 pm
Harper singles, Zimmerman walks…..and LaRoche fails to deliver the WEAVERGASM!
MIAMI 5 WASHINGTON 3 FINAL
July 16th, 201210:25 pm
LaRoche K’s to end the game. Kinda sucks pulling for the Fish though………
July 16th, 201210:26 pm
Ozzie lucked out. and Nats lose. both good things. maybe he will manage that stupidly against the Braves in the future since he got away with it once.’Soph I think it is mostly faux grump…
July 16th, 201210:27 pm
I love ozzie…
Nats lose 5-3
July 16th, 201210:31 pm
Jerry, I read the previous page, so I saw one of your comments. I hope you get better, soon.
July 16th, 201210:32 pm
2.5 Games out
hmm think its time to get some pumpkin bread and espresso..
I loved BOTH Ozzie and Harriett.
July 16th, 201210:33 pm
ya know who I haven’t thought of in a long time? Odalis Perez
I just loved reporting ther 2 straight bunts to see all of you sparking.
GET THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER!
July 16th, 201210:34 pm
Watching MLB Network inside the park with Jerry Manuel analyzing is like watching the game with Tomahawkin. No idea what the hell he’s talking about 90 percent of the time.
Kinda sucks pulling for the Fish though………
Why? In the past it would suck pulling for the Phillies or Mets (although recently I just feel bad for them) but I’ve never had beef with the Marlins
July 16th, 201210:36 pm
Still digging the STP commercials with the Drive By Truckers playing and Mike Cooley narrating though. Who woulda thunk it?
1/2 a game out of 2nd best NL record after Reds’ loss…
July 16th, 201210:37 pm
Harriet was a little old for me…
July 16th, 201210:39 pm
Pythagoras ….is taking baseball questions on Facebook
Jerry, cancer has touched my family several times and I know how hard that is for all concerned. I pray for health and peace for you and your family/friends.
If the Rockies hold on against the Pirates, we’ve got the 5th best record in baseball again.
July 16th, 201210:41 pm
Wayne – either way, we’re either 5th best or tied for 5th best, which means 5th best…
But she was so motherly………
July 16th, 201210:43 pm
A little walk down nostalgia lane………..
Tiger – Being an avid AT&T supporter, I want to be the first to heap the praise on your people who make those awe inspiring commercials that seem to run 8 to 10 times between every inning. I sometimes call other AT&T customers to remind them when a commercial is about to be repeated for the 100,000th time or that I changed the channel to keep from watching an especially putrid ad.
July 16th, 201210:44 pm
Pythagoras – if it’s 90 feet between home plate and first base, 90 feet from first base to second, and the turn from first to second is a 90 degree angle, how far is it from home to second?
July 16th, 201210:47 pm
180 ft if you are running the bases…..
90 root 2?
127 feet 3 and 3/8th inches
July 16th, 201210:48 pm
or 127.279 as a decimal
July 16th, 201210:49 pm
kl – thanks you very much…I’ll make a note of it and see if we can increase the frequency and reduce the selection
July 16th, 201210:50 pm
New Leverage – not a bad way to spend a non-Braves night…
July 16th, 201210:52 pm
yeah I saw it was on tonight. copied it
one of the last few Closers on too
….Ask Jeeves, just crashed—I am with holding my entry until corrected.
July 16th, 201210:53 pm
It’s the square root of 2(90^2)
I was just trying to make a joke
I thought that was one of the things that all baseball fans had memorized
July 16th, 201210:54 pm
Really? try harder next time Jeffster
July 16th, 201210:55 pm
Pi is exactly 3
July 16th, 201210:56 pm
I wonder about Shields. I can’t imagine Wren doesn’t try hard to get him here if the Rays decide to deal him.
July 16th, 201210:58 pm
bat – almost done with the amberjack…still a decent amount of tuna left
jeffrey – what?????
Are you drunk (since you do not drink it seems unlikely)…
Assuming you somehow said root 2 times 90 squared…
Jeeves F’d up Jeffrey……He just lowered his fWAR IMO
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
