I take top-of-the-rotation type to mean a 1 or a 2. Greinke, Shields, Dempster, and Garza could all fall in that category. It would not include Liriano-types, IMO.

i think it might be harder than some people think to get a reliable automation system for balls and strikes. people must think fox trax is better than it probably really is.
I dunno, I doubt it would be all that difficult. Could even be made so that the general public is none the wiser… homeplate ump would still be needed to call outs made at the dish, so just keep him there and give him some sort of automated notification system. He can still make the calls ala Frank Drebin in The Naked Gun, dancing all over the place, but he’s really just relaying info fed to him by a computer.

that seems to go way against the Boras MO.
The agent works for the player, not the other way around. If Boras is unhappy with a client’s wishes, he can always quit and leave the commission.

ncscoots, that’s true…but the MO is that way for a reason. The players listen to Boras, and usually end up making a lot of money doing so. Could Bourn be an exception? Sure…but I’ll believe it when I really see it.

BAS The system in tennis is impressive. I have to think the same technology could be applied. No?
im not sure how the tennis thing works, but i think its just a bunch of cameras at every angle measuring distances and what not. i think it could be done, but doing it in baseball is a little more complicated than seeing if a tennis ball hits on a line or not.
the strike zone is 3 dimentional, suspended in mid air and changes with every batter. i think alot of people think its as simple as K zone, but im not sure it is.
im not an expert or anything, just my take on it.

•Braves center fielder Michael Bourn believes the Nationals were interested in him last summer, Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post reports. The Nationals, who continue to seek a long-term answer in center field, are expected to pursue Bourn when he hits free agency this coming offseason. Bourn told Kilgore he’ll take his time deciding on where to sign his next contract. “Right now, I’m focused on this season right now,” he said. “I think I’m on a good team right now in the Atlanta Braves.”

let’s get real, if we acquired both Upton and Greinke our farm system would be in ruins, and there’s no way there would be a Bourn extension unless Greinke isn’t offered a contract

anyway, back in reality land, now that the Rays have made it clear they will listen on Shields, I feel he is THE best Braves option really, under control for 2 more seasons, none of them super expensive, we have the pieces to acquire him , if after those 2 years he wants to leave, the team will get draft picks for him AND he would be a top tier pitcher in the NL with a better team defense and no DH to face

While I would usually agree with you…..Freidman looks for value overall when running that franchise. He’s got a ton of arms anyway – but I could see them looking for more. Garza went for Archer and Lee. I could see Shields going in a package for Delgado or Teheran and Bethancourt.

All these sites do is post things they hear or read from others making guesses based on teams needs. Doesn’t really make one less legit than the other. I’ve read plenty of stuff on MLBtraderumor that is pure conjecture. All these sites do is post things they hear or read from others making guesses based on teams needs.
MLBTraderumors posts stuff from other guys twitter feeds and what not. Pretyt much any and all things that have to do with the MLB Rumor mill. I don’t believe this guy is the same when they post something like Delgado and Constanza on their way to Milwaukee for Greinke. Looking to confirm. I just don’t see that type of stuff from a legit national writer or even MLBTraderumors. You’ve seen a comment like that posted by Tim Dierkes? When and where?

Hamels is probably the 5th best lefty: Kershaw,Sabathia,Price and Cliff Lee, Lee has had trouble getting wins, but his body of work is better than Hamels’

I don’t think those are the pieces they’d haggle over. It’s the main guys that they would argue over. Trading an established starter like Shields in the prime of his career and in control for 24.5 million over 2.5 years – you had better get some impact in the prospects you trade for. I just don’t see that in a package headlined by Delgado and Bethancourt. Maybe that’s just me though….
