Really, a Horrible job done by Karros and Gene (is it Gene?) on breaking down and explaining to their national tv audience what all REALLY happened on that play and over-turned call. Give big credit to the umps for overturning it and they were absolutely correct to put PRADO back on 2nd base as well. That was some poor broadcasting, I’m afraid.
So Dickey won’t be back. So that’s twice this season he’s gone 5 or fewer vs. Braves while giving up 16 hits and 13 runs in 9-1/3 innings of those two games.
(Rob from SC)
Hanson is a 5 inning pitcher. I like the kid, but it’s the truth
July 14th, 20125:50 pm
Wonder what the combined range factor is today for our 2B and LF?
Hanson sucks. I’ve for no confidence in this guy.
F*** Hanson today. Everything offspeed
Come on Durbinator!!!!!!!!
Get Tommy outta there. He’s doing his best to give it back to the Mutts.
Big Red Is not an ACE either, for all the Kool Aid Drinkers who think he can be a shutdown starter!
Ouch. That really wasn’t a bad pitch.
Hanson just refuses to string together two good innings in a row while the Braves pitching staff is incapable of keeping the opposition off the board after scoring runs. Pretty sorry outing for Hanson today.
The A Bomb
July 14th, 20125:51 pm
And as usual, Dumb and Dumber in the dugout.
Okay – Diaz catches that ball in left, Prado does – Hinske is hurting us defensively. And now Hanson is gone. Damn – need better bench players. I hate to be a hater, but…our replacements are such a let down compared to the starters it’s scary.
well that’s 2 leads you’ve blown today Hansen.
Tommy throws way too many breaking balls these days.
July 14th, 20125:52 pm
another mediocre performance by Hanson.
No matter what the bats do for Hanson he just cannot take the momentum to go out and get 3 outs with out allowing a runner. The guy has the potential to be an Ace, but this is so frustrating.
I am worried about Hanson. His lack of velocity in addition to his declining strike out rate, rising walk and home run rates paint a troubling picture for the future.
How far can this team possibly expect to go if they can’t depend on Hudson or Homer Hanson?
July 14th, 20125:53 pm
As usual Hanson sux.
No homer Durbin lets get the DP
The loss of Beachy hurts more and more every day.
* Janish, 29, has three arbitration-eligible seasons before he can become a free agent.
That’s actually a plus with this acquisition. If he does good, he’s a solid bench option for at least the next three seasons.
I greatly lament the dearth of quality color commentators currently working in major league baseball, especially when it comes to the national broadcasts.
Problem is, most great defenders off the bench can’t hit, and most hitters off the bench can’t field (or they’d be starters) Unless you have the $$$ to spend $15mill+ on your bench, you are pretty much gonna have these issues
July 14th, 20125:54 pm
OK…what if the umps had called the fly ball “trapped” & Prado stopped at 2B…but after consulting for 2 or 3 minutes…decided he made the catch. Would it be a double play…or could they “make up” another rule…where, since they signaled “safe”…Prado would be allowed to wander back to 1B…during the dead ball…and the batter would be out ?
Hanson really needs to step it up.
Unless Hanson has 10 Ks he’s usually shaky or ineffective. Curveball looks so different from the fastball it’s easy to read and it’s easy to figure out why lefties are blowing him away.
These two idiots on FOX are so bad. Why is it so hard to understand that play??
July 14th, 20125:55 pm
What the F is Chad Durbin doing in the game in 6th inning?!
Come on Tommy.
It’s the Mets!
We got five runs on Dickey and the Mets have four runs?
What is that?
Tommy (can’t go 6) Hanson
not many laughers for us
NickB – I agree. For a backup, I’d rather have defense. With the hitting potential of our starting eight – one or possibly two missing starters can be covered up. The pitching right now really needs the defensive help – and they ain’t gettin’ any help.
And Hanson will give the some sorry quotes after the game I’m sure…he’s pathetically inconsistent..
July 14th, 2012
10-5 going into todays game….yupp he sucks.
Kinda surprised the announcers didn’t get why Prado was safe. Only reason he was “tagged” at first was because the umpire blew the call. If the umpire gets it right Prado would have been at 2nd no problems. Dickey gave up 3 hits and the lead. The short and end of it. Its his fault he gave up those runs not a bad call from the umps.
Jasons Shrinking Waist
ANYTIME YOU GIVE HANSON A LEAD HE BLOWS IT
EVERY FREAKIN TIME
(Rob from SC) – Hanson is a 5 inning pitcher. I like the kid, but it’s the truth
11 of his 19 starts this year have gone 6 or longer, 7 of which have gone 7 or longer.
July 14th, 20125:56 pm
Smh hanson and that stupid throwing motion
Nats will fold, won’t handle the pressure..
How many balks are there gonna be next year when that stupid fake to 3rd and look at 1B will not be allowed? I can’t wait for that stupid play to go away.
Come On Durbinator! I still dont trust the Guy.
Apparently the umps “allowed” the braves to get a couple of runs.
I have seen that very thing you described happen, and yes they sent the runner back to first and the batter was out
and crap the game is tied
Greg Myers almost makes me wistful for the days of Dick Stockton.
Getting Janish for Redmond was a good move
Gonna be a long game.
Jaded Braves Fan
Just getting an out is such a struggle against these guys. They own our pitching.
July 14th, 20125:57 pm
Went back to the same location.
According to fangraphs, Hanson only throws his fastball 54% of the time. Seems low too me
HAHA what a joke.
Dang. Hanson blows two leads of two runs today. That is inexcusable, plus Durbin allowing an RBI single with two strikes is irritating as well.
These starters aren’t really helping out our weaker pen. Post all-star break rustiness I suppose. Just win the game.
Braves two best pitchers get smacked by a light hitting Mets team….awesome.
Way to give back a lead in one out.
July 14th, 20125:58 pm
Hanson’s face is bloated like an alcoholics.
Sons of Rick Matula
Hanson is declining … The Braves pitching is coming unraveled. McDowell has to take some of the flack for this staff in decline.
let’s don’t stop there give um some more boys.
Offense gives Hanson 5 runs and it’s still not good enough.
July 14th, 20125:59 pm
Typical Hanson and Hudson performances. The team gives Hudson a 5 run lead and he blows it, they give the head case Hanson a 2 run lead in the 5th, and what does this clown do? He gives it right back. Hanson is so out of shape, the guy can’t pitch if it is over 80, and even then he wilts after 5 or 6 innings. Anybody that thinks this pathetic pitching staff will get this team to the playoffs is dreaming.. The braves have no starting pitcher that the team can count on, and Hudson and Hanson or 4th or 5th starter talent and nothing more. The problem for the braves is that these losers are the #1 and #2 starters on a staff that has an E.R.A. of 4.00. Only 4 more weeks until football season. Thank God!!!
Remember when Durbin gave up a HR in every outing he had to start the season?
Today’s loss is on HANSON!!!!!!!!!!
Crap, crap crap
The problem is that by 6th inning he’s thrown 40-50-60 curves and it’s hard to keep rolling off crisp curve balls one after another. Plus the hitters have had 2 times to see it .
Well, what else is on today…
Hinske plays left field like he is carrying a piano.
Ridiculous. Now Durbin is imploding. Braves blow leads way too frequently.
I sure do miss the days when the Braves scored 5 runs that you could go about the ret of your without worrying if they could hold the lead.
Another scrub…another run. Pathetic.
July 14th, 20126:00 pm
This is torture. I have to find out about the Mets tying the game on ESPN.com?
How did I know we would suck today.
I’m sorry. I’ll try to stop venting now.
Haven’t been able to actually watch a game in weeks.
You can chalk this one up. Our pitching is horrible. I will be stunned if we can manage to make the playoffs with this pitching.
light hitting Mets team? wow. just wow.
unless this team gets some better Starters they ain’t going anywhere. Hanson, Hudson etc are not getting it done.
I love it!!!
Great job by Tommy Hanson today against the mighty Mets!!!
Wow – just piss poor defense and pitching. Don’t know what else to say.
Durbin is awful, but Hanson once again didn’t get the job done. The pitching staff on this team is just a mess.
July 14th, 20126:01 pm
What is Wren waiting on? The team needs a starter and a bullpen arm now.
wow these umps blow.
MLB umpires are horrible!
Strike two wasn’t , strike three WAS
Too many slow curves for Tommy.
July 14th, 20126:02 pm
Wright paying homage to Dan Uggla today.
NickB…but what if he actually caught the ball…& say Prado was obviously gonna be doubled up…if they had originally got the call “right”…in my “situation”…would they still allow Prado to go back to 1B…bet they wouldn’t…I’m guessin’ there is a “Special Rule”…that allows umps to just make up a decision…based on what they think is “fair” in certain situations.
Weren’t the Mets supposed to not have a prayer against the rest of the division this year?
Guess they didn’t get the memo.
Tommy Hanson is mediocre garbage and he deserved to be Booed today.
Gas Can Durbin did not help either and once again a pathetic garbageperformance by a Braves SP.
Hanson has to go, what a POS piece of crap. Durbin did not help today but Hanson got what he deserved, he pitched a second rate POS game.
Its games like this that is why a part of the ATL Braves fan base does not give the love for Hanson. Sort of a Joe Johnson of Braves pitchers, he will never take us anywhere.
Could we at least put Matt Diaz in left? He isn’t as heavy as Hinske and might be able to get to some balls a little better.
The problem isn’t too many slow curves for Tommy…the problem is too many slow fastballs.
July 14th, 20126:03 pm
Fredi with the “MF” on the mound?
Hey, we got Sheets now, we’re gonna be just fine..and in the bullpen, we’ll have ‘Everyday Jonny’ and the ‘Great Aussie’ back soon enough… sets up just fine.
Gas Can Durbin Can NOT Be trusted in big Games in the September! Fredi has overused him
Come On New Guy!
With FW’s track record this season I wouldn’t hold my breath for Dempster, Garza, Grienke or even Loriano.
July 14th, 20126:04 pm
Fredi is working up a nasty sweat making these pitching changes. Or, he’s been doing backflips waiting on the arrival of Paul Janish.
Wren is just waiting on a team he can rip off instead of diving in there and getting this team a pretty desperate need. Trying to be savvy all the time.
gene garbage…You think the Mets are a big offensive team? Really? After Wright, who scares you on the Mets?
Tommy Hanson had 1 out in the 6th inning with a two run lead. No excuse in letting that lead slip away, let alone trail now. This team has serious pitching problems and problems with maintaining momentum after scoring runs.
Is this Avilan’s Braves debut?
July 14th, 20126:05 pm
yeah, but Diaz has to windup before he ever gets rid of the ball..he actually looks just like Hanson when he throws…
This has to be the worst umpire crew I have ever seen and I’ve seen some awful ones.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
