Sure are a lot of empty seats for a Saturday in July.
Janish I know little about. Whatever, as long as he can glove it I’m cool.
Redmond for Janish…Im not overly happy about that
July 14th, 20124:59 pm
Heyward has no clue against the knuckleballer…hopefully he won’t strain a oblique trying to hit it..
At least a great quote on Fox: “Fredi said he might as well keep running Uggla out there because sooner or later he’ll hit.” So, using Havana Fats logic…why not keep running Livan Hernandez out there?: Sooner or later he’d pitch a no hitter.
Joe Buck and dumba..s McCarver might need Uggla as an assistant color man soon.
Could be a simple AAA move…after all, they need players too
July 14th, 20125:00 pm
Paul Janish is a guy from Hungary who used to played for the Reds big team last year. As other said he can play 2nd, 3rd and SS.
Typical crap trade from FW. Wouldn’t have expected anything else.
July 14th, 20125:01 pm
he hasnt even played this year..why would we trade a fairly decent pitcher for another pastornicky?
JC Boscan III
The Braves seemed determined never to give Redmond a chance to pitch in the majors, so maybe it’ll be good for him. It’s too bad we dumped Drew Sutton a few weeks ago.
Janish has like a career 590 OPS in the majors.
What is the deal with Hanson’s inability to get Ike Davis out?
Well damn – let’s not pitch him over the middle of the plate anymore – that’s twice!
That’s what I get for gawking at his batting avg when he first came up to bat.
Doofus(Goober and Gomer's Smart Brother)
Probably makes Todd Redmond feel great, being traded for a “no name” SS. He was all excited when he got called up to ATL last week for one day but didn’t get to pitch, even though his dad made it in for the game. These guys are on roller coasters more than a “Braves Fan”!
The A Bomb
July 14th, 20125:02 pm
Selling Sutton for a pack of glue sticks was one of the worst moves in a season of brutal moves by the front office.
Don’t we already have a all-glove no-stick SS?
What a great move Frank Wren!…….(yawn)
Hanson is getting rocked.
Ike Davis has been on fire.
What’s the deal..Is 4 innings going to be the limit today?
It wasn’t a matter of if, but when Hanson would give up yet another HR.
July 14th, 20125:03 pm
well one of our pitchers is headed down to the minors so they had to make a pitching spot for him…
July 14th, 20125:04 pm
Don’t see how Janish would even be much, if any, upgrade over other options Braves already had at Triple-A, Pastornicky and Josh Wilson.
dang, guys gonna try to break McCann’s ankle with the bat, huh?
Hanson is so frustrating to watch.
Hanson is asking for trouble.
Coach (2012 Fredi's Beisbol Fandango)
Paul Janish…….another warm body, except that he can cover 3B, SS and 2B. This is believe it or not an improvement.
July 14th, 20125:05 pm
Janish makes sense. Younger player than some of the other mentions. Guess they didn’t really want to give up too much for the filler and Redmond isn’t very much.
This is bad Hanson day.
Go settle him down, Mac!
Hi—gals and guys….much to my surprise; Hinske lumbering ’round 3rd was my 1st vision and glad to see he doubled–way to go Ski belated….
This Mets lineup is pretty good. They put together some tough, fundamental at bats.
July 14th, 20125:06 pm
Well this isn’t very DOUBLE PITS TO CHESTY.
Some of you are acting like we just traded Greg Maddux for a little leaguer. Any move made for a SS is TEMPORARY. Wren is not going to go out and overspend for a 5 week fill in. We need a guy that can play D for a few weeks, preferably one with minor league options left.
July 14th, 20125:07 pm
Paul Janish…….another warm body, except that he can cover 3B, SS and 2B. This is believe it or not an improvement. – Coach
No its not. The Braves gave up a decent potential back end of the rotation starter for another Jack Wilson.
He’ll get out of this–he always seems to sharpen up the curve when he’s in trouble
So Janish is who were were playing shorthanded over? This has been a very bad year for Wren!
Janish is a good defender who can play a few positions but that’s the only good stuff about him. He can’t hit to save his life.
July 14th, 20125:08 pm
Damn, Tommy. You weren’t supposed to do that.
Another strong outing from a starter.
It is good getting one player who can cover 3 positions at once. Couple people have said he can cover 2B,SS, and 3B. That does leave us a little bit short though in the offensive dept., unless we can use 2 DHs in the lineup.
Hanson is so ho hum it makes me sick.
July 14th, 20125:09 pm
HOW many times will our starters give up a lead this year!?!?
Janish has averaged 0.4 WAR the past three seasons because of solid defense. Below replacement-level offensively but as good defensively as plenty of major league shortstops with starting jobs.
July 14th, 20125:10 pm
Yeah, get your mouths off Dickey’s butt
Hanson always has a hard time. Allways seems to be in trouble.
Tommy Hanson has such a difficult time limiting damage in an inning.
Janish provides no offense but strong defensively, Braves just picking up a strong defensive shortstop to fill in. Prado not an every-day shortstop.
Jaded Braves Fan
What is about the Mets and Nats? Mediocre lineups that give our pitchers, even our good ones, major problems.
Really needed Hanson to come out and deliver and that’s just not the case tonight. Really do need pitching help, pretty sad that 37 year old Tim Hudson is our best starter still.
McFann :Ô: :Ô: :ô:
cabravesfan Can’t wait to see Mini Mac decked out in a tiny version of Daddy Mac’s all star jersey for his 1st birthday next year in New York
Oh, GOSH yes!!
Hey, and he was born on the anniversary of BMac being named the ASG MVP!!
July 14th, 20125:11 pm
Well, let’s start again – hate to see the lead gone, but…you knew 3 runs wouldn’t win this game. And Janish is better defensively than anyone we currently have – just can’t hit a lick
July 14th, 20125:12 pm
Todd Redmond is a AAAA pitcher. Relax.
DOB, anybody who can play better defense than Pastornicky is an upgrade. Don’t know a thing about Josh Wilson though.
JC Boscan III
Good question. It is almost like the starting pitchers refuse to hold a lead because it happens pretty frequently. I wonder if the Braves starters breath a sigh of relief when they are blessed with an early lead leading them to be less focused.
Janish is marginally better than Jack Wilson for one reason and ONE REASON ONLY.
Janish covers 3B, SS and 2B, Wilson’s a SS only. Neither can hi much but Janish at least offers some versatility.
So who’s going to be the primary starter, Janish or Wilson (when his finger is better)?
July 14th, 20125:13 pm
July 14th, 2012
Exactly. We didn’t give up anything.
Coach, Wilson can also play all three of those positions.
I heard it mentioned earlier….Hinske is big; and should he have used his frame to crush the tagging catcher earlier? Tough one in my opinion; just isn’t done like that anymore and, yeah I think in that instance given the team’s current status—why risk another potential injury?
looks like our Bullpen will have to win this game
July 14th, 20125:14 pm
Efrim – Todd Redmond is a AAAA pitcher. Relax.
Just for that, he’s gonna win the Cy Young, ROY, and MVP in 2013. Just to spite us.
I understand the need for the good defensive guy, but the Braves have already said that Wilson would only miss a day or two. Just not sure why we would trade for another Jack Wilson.
Redmond at best might be a long reliever in the big leagues. I see him being a career minor league guy tho.
July 14th, 20125:15 pm
Freeman now at .273/.330/.461.
Heyward at .271/.342/.492.
WOW – what a TERRIBLE call – got robbed Mac
Strike 3 was high and a ball.
THAT WAS NO STRIKE!!!
Wren picked up some depth on the infield and didn’t give up squat. Nicely done.
July 14th, 20125:16 pm
That pitch was high.
The lack of spin must be mesmerizing the umpire.
This umpiring crew having a Frank Wren weekend.
And now we get to hear that loud Obxoxious lady!
Really do need pitching help, pretty sad that 37 year old Tim Hudson is our best starter still.
Yep, Huddy looked like an ace last night too.
Chest high called strike?
Wow… that was awfully generous.
July 14th, 20125:17 pm
This. It’s for 5 weeks, folks. That’s all
Wow bad luck for Uggla there….
Good stroke Uggla – line drives are good
F U Wright.
Maybe change of scenery will help Janish.
“This. It’s for 5 weeks, folks. That’s all”
Uggla and the Braves needed that liner to fall for a hit.
July 14th, 20125:18 pm
Two of the hardest balls we’ve hit today have been robbed by infielders.
Come On Big Red! Help Yourself Here!
July 14th, 20125:19 pm
Cursed…just robbed of everything that inning…
HANSON – shut down inning. Try it, please.
Hanson loafing down the line. Dude is a serious slacker.
July 14th, 20125:20 pm
That’s as exciting an at-bat as you’ll ever see out of Hanson, more suited for an AL team.
July 14th, 20125:21 pm
Gawd, We have had some Nasty Highway Robbery today, that is not in our favor!
I think Janish was with the Mickey Mouse club.
Hard hit balls find Met gloves. And they score with 2 outs. They are going to come down in the 2nd half if their starters let up even a little.
Wright is a star and one of the best players in the league. Ike Davis is a nice player. Ruben Tejada is too. Not really a Duda, Niewenheis, Murphy, Thole supporter. But I think they have most of their infield set.
Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1
#Braves obtained SS Janish from #Reds for P Todd Redmond. Had been talking to #Yankees about Ramiro Pena in case couldn’t get Janish.
Janish is what Jack Wilson was 2-4 years ago, which is not a bad thing.
July 14th, 20125:22 pm
Hanson has pitched well in odd-number innings today, maybe that trend will continue.
Hmmm…this looks very ominous..an umpire who strike zone is above the letters and below the knees…a pitcher who can’t help himself on the mound or at the plate at the moment..
Wren’s moves thius far, and my grades:
Signed Livan Hernandez (F)
Signed Chad Durbin (B+)
Hoover for Francisco (C-)
Signed Ben Sheets (TBD)
Redmond for Janish (C-)
Traded Drew Sutton for cash (F-)
Signed DJ Carrasco (D-)
Signed Felix Fie (B-)
2012 draft, overall (B+)
Umpires need to quit thinking they are God. Get over yourselves, Blue.
July 14th, 20125:23 pm
Well, that kinda evens up somethings..
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
