McCann away for birth of first child – updated

Brian McCann missed Friday night’s game for the birth of his first child, a son Colt Michael, who was born at 2:03 p.m. Friday at seven pounds, one ounce, according to McCann’s father Howie McCann.
Brian’s wife Ashley was admitted to the hospital and induced on Thursday night. The original due date was July 21, but baby and mother are healthy and all went well with the delivery, Howie McCann said.
McCann can be away from the team for up to three days for paternity leave, but his father said he plans to return to the lineup on Saturday.
The Braves re-called catcher J.C. Boscan from Triple-A Gwinnett to take McCann’s roster spot.

Soooo why was it planned on the day of the first game back from the break? He clearly wasn’t going to the All Star Game so Monday or Tuesday would’ve been nice. I know people will say it’s callous but he makes about $12 million per year and is very important to the team. Let’s hope it’s just one game.

chc4: this is to you….it is not about the Braves or Brian McCann, it is about the health and welfare of mother and baby…I am a RN in mother/baby…the doctor visit obviously showed something that the doctors felt needed to be dealt with…not on the braves timetable, but the mother’s and baby’s…
