Vivlamore reporting from Turner Field.
With the July 31 trade deadline approach, Chipper Jones said Friday he would like to see the Braves acquire a pitcher – a move he believes will help the team be more consistent during the second-half playoff push.
“You solidify your ball club with lockdown starting pitching,” Jones said. “You’ll be amazed at how consistent you will play when you’ve got five guys who walk out there and you expect to win every time they walk out there. The Nationals have done it up to this point. We have struggled with a couple of spots in our rotation. That’s why we haven’t been as consistent as they have. With a starting pitcher at the deadline, can we become that consistent? Yes. Most definitely.”

Looks like Teheran’s days here could be numbered. Hope we don’t give up on him so soon.

I think Chipper has a future as a pitching coach. He talks more about the shortcomings of the team’s pitchers than he does about anything else.

I love how much of a true veteran he really is. So pro. He’ll be missed.

The pitching would help, but so would another bat. Our hitting has been very INCONSISTENT

I’m joking about Chipper being a pitching coach, but not about how often he points the finger at the pitchers.

Way to throw a couple of young team mates under the bus. Great job, Hoss.

Maybe if Chipper and the rest of the offense got a few runs for Delgado, they wouldn’t be struggling so much with a “couple of spots in their rotation.”

Chipper isn’t throwing these youngsters under the bus. All he’s saying is we need a starting pitcher that isn’t young and inexperienced. I myself was hoping a lot more out of Minor and Delgado. These two guys have a bright future ahead of them however if we want to win now we need to get another solid bulldawg pitcher out there. With Huddy, Hanson, and JJ pitching well, we might have a shot at that World Series. We need the pitching and a better bat off the bench. Wilson,Hinske, Diaz, Hernadez aren’t getting the job done.

How about our third baseman being a little more consistant in the number of games he plays…He has YET to play a full 3 game series this year…………

You are right on Big Wheel. You would think that a team leader would be working to build the confidence of the young guys. If he’s going to call people out how bout the p… poor hitting in clutch situations of some of the so called offensive studs!!!

In 20 starts Delgdo has had 15 runs scored for him. This love/hate relationship with Chipper is wearing thin…I’ll be glad when the season is over and he’s gone. It’s about time for him to pull a hammy or tweak a rib muscle. I’m only counting on Chipper playing 24 of the next 79 games. Anyone have odds?

[...] Pitching deal near? Speaking of Chipper, I’m sure most of you saw it here Friday where he said that he’d like to see the Braves acquire another starting pitcher before the July 31 [...]

P.Bull Terrier…I think Chipper will make a better Ambulance driver (taking the aching players to the ER — he has plenty of experience, in that area, don’t you think?)
