whats sad is that we now know we have the money to sign greinke, yet we coulldn’t come up with the the 27 million needed to obtain beltran for 2012 and 13. no guarantees but if that move had been made
we’d be 5 in front of washington now, instead of 5 behind

Just got a call back from Howie McCann, proud grandfather of Colt Michael McCann, who was born today at 2:03 p.m., a healthy boy weighing in at 7 pounds one ounce. Ashley was induced last night and spent the night in the hospital…..Brian plans to spend tonight with his wife and new son, catch up on his rest after an eventful night and return to action tomorrow with the Braves.

Yeah, that was kinda what I was thinking concerning Ryan. Let him and Wilson split time (or whomever gets hot with the bat starts) while Simmons is recup’ing and then see which one you want as your backup for 2013.
And Ryan has played all positions except for C and 1B in his major league career. (not sure if he has played CF though………. but he might be a good utility guy to have around. And plays very good D.

MLB network will broadcast “The life and death of Darryl Kile” again tomorrow at 5pm. I highly recommend to DVR if you can. Costas narrates and really well documentation of what a outstanding guy he was on and off the field. LaRussa is interviewed in length as well as Jocketty and they are very candid.
Kile left behind 3 children including 5 yr old boy and girl twins and was only 33 when he passed. I have 5 yr twins(boy and girl) and man it got me choked up watching this. Good story, well written and sounds like a really quality guy that left way too soon.

I’ve decided today I’m boycotting the Olympics this year, simply because the uniforms are made in China. THAT is ASININE! Even both the Dems and Repubs are together on this one. One senator did some checking and said if all the pieces were made in the USA, it would keep $1 billion in this country!
Besides, I don’t like the Olympic Committee’s attitude about it today, when asked about it. BTW, this may not be Braves, but it is sports. Just a little off topic, but now I’m mad and had to say it. What is wrong with these people?

I don’t know the status of the trade talks but isn’t a little weird the Braves are so open about wanting to trade for a guy. to the point where they’d rather play with an open roster spot while waiting for the trade? It doesn’t seem like that would leave you with much negotiating leverage. Maybe the trade is done but the other team wanted one more game out of their player. It just all seems odd to me.

I think we should always buy American whenever we have the option and the cost is not prohibitive. We are helping our economy and creating American jobs to make more goods. Until a few months ago, I was not even in the habit of looking at whatever I bought to see where it was made, I just bought what I needed at the time. However, many times there is a choice of whatever you are buying, if it is made here or in China, Taiwan, or some other foreign country. In that situation you have a choice and I think Buy American is the right thing to do. I sell collectibles on eBay and have for 14 years and the past couple of years is the slowest it has ever been. It picked up for awhile earlier this year, but now has dropped to almost nothing. Folks are still hurting and don’t have the disposable income they used to have. Just my 2 cents.

Scutaro will cost more in the way of prospects (though I do like him a lot) and he has a much higher salary. Bloomquist is not as good of a defensive SS with 1 year left on his contract after this year at almost 2 million per.
Fontenot has no range…………. think Pastornicky. Carroll, I know little about but I think he is getting a bit long in the tooth and is not really much better of a hitter than Ryan.
Ryan has a very good SS glove. If Wilson can’t start (stamina or whatever), which if the Braves are looking for a replacement it must be true; then Ryan would be a good addition that wouldn’t cost much in the way of prospects or $$.
We’re talking about a 6-8 week proposition here.

Which is pretty much a good chunk of the rest of the season, and this 6-8 week timetable is assuming he does not have to have surgery when the cast is removed in 4 weeks. So very best scenario is 6-8 weeks.

Re: USA Olympic uniforms being outsourced to China: The USA will rue the day it sent all this money to the China which we should never forget is a communist military dictatorship. They are taking a lot of that money to build up their military. Their goal is to replace the USA as the dominate military and economic force in the world. At the risk of someone saying this is political, I’d say the best thing that could be done to spur manufacturing in the US is to not demonize business. I, like most, am on a budget. I buy my stuff at Sam’s Club and Costco. I don’t look at labels, I look at price tags.
