Game may be delayed about 45 minutes starting if you can believe Weather Channel.com
July 13th, 20125:34 pm
Bay Area Steve, with all due respect, who said the delivery date was moved based on work? From my understanding, it was based on a doctor’s recommendation after a visit in the last day or so.
July 13th, 20125:35 pm
rain is falling and tarp is coming out. need to cool things off anyway.
The A Bomb
July 13th, 20125:37 pm
This is what happens when an organization of “professionals” spends an entire winter handing a major league shortstop job to an unproven commodity.
Same conglomerate which sent a reliever down to the minors to become a starter, only to be brought back as a reliever and costing the team a win or two.
July 13th, 20125:38 pm
The baby is alot more important than the game. Mac needs to take all the time he needs. His 1st baby son is Special.
If the Washington Nationals make the World Series, don’t tell Stephen Strasburg — who is on a team-imposed innings limit — that he won’t be able to pitch.
“They’re going to have to rip the ball out of my hands,” Strasburg said on MLB Network Radio.
“Game may be delayed about 45 minutes starting”
Yeh, because we haven’t waited long enough for baseball. Waiting four days for baseball during the season…is like a month long break when you think about it.
July 13th, 20125:39 pm
They better be doing more than “mulling” about the SS situation. Pastornicky should not even be speculated as the answer, nor should Wilson. 6 weeks or more without a very solid defender at that position will likely lead to a nosedive to the bottom of the East.
July 13th, 20125:40 pm
“The baby is alot more important than the game.”
Nah, not really. The kid can’t even develop memories for like 12-15 more months anyways. And earning his paycheck and providing for his kid is probably more important.
Bay Area Steve
My comment was responding to others who’d suggested Mac and his wife should’ve timed this with the ASB. I think that’s ridiculous.

I’ve decided today I’m boycotting the Olympics this year, simply because the uniforms are made in China. THAT is ASININE! Even both the Dems and Repubs are together on this one. One senator did some checking and said if all the pieces were made in the USA, it would keep $1 billion in this country!
Besides, I don’t like the Olympic Committee’s attitude about it today, when asked about it. BTW, this may not be Braves, but it is sports. Just a little off topic, but now I’m mad and had to say it. What is wrong with these people?
July 13th, 20125:43 pm
“One senator did some checking and said if all the pieces were made in the USA, it would keep $1 billion in this country!”
Bull. Keeping money in the country isn’t as important as saving the buyer money. If the U.S. wanted to make the uniforms, they could have had the opportunity if they bid lower than China. Supply and demand my friend. Politicians being politicians and not understanding the economy. That’s a shocker.
tons of speculation about Upton, must be something more than that he is simply having a poor year
July 13th, 20125:44 pm
Happy to help, ken.
July 13th, 20125:45 pm
Looks like trade could be with Rockies, something going on with Herrera and Scutaro per Troy Renck of Rockies.
Scutaro is in the lineup… not sure where you got that info from.
Boycotting the Olympics because of where the uniform for the opening ceremonies is made is just pouty silliness.
The 2008 Olympics were made in China, did you boycoot them too?
July 13th, 20125:46 pm
Safe to assume this senator won his election and paid for his campaign almost entirely with money from the same corporations and special interests who move the jobs away in the first place? Too political?
The clothes are cheaper there. I like cheap. Most of us do. Globalization is here; we’d better get used to it. ‘Cause I sure as hell ain’t sewin’ shirts for $1/day.
This may be a good thing after all. Whoever we acquire will likely take Wilson’s roster spot when Simmons returns, boosting the bench.
Although with this organization they may keep him around since he’s a great fundamentals guy (can put on his hat neatly and tie shoes correctly)
July 13th, 20125:47 pm
MFin04..So it is.
What did Olympic Committee say? iTiSi
Everything is made in China. And who cares where the damn uniforms are made??
I’m boycotting the election because all politicians are made of stupid.
July 13th, 20125:48 pm
by the time Simmons gets back the roster will be expanded
July 13th, 20125:49 pm
“I’m boycotting the election because all politicians are made of stupid.”
I figure I’ll know when my vote will actually mean something.
Murph vote all of them out!
July 13th, 20125:50 pm
Actually, this delay is a facade. The rain is just an excuse. It’s just giving BMac an extra hour, in case the baby comes, and he might can still make it to the ballpark on time.
July 13th, 20125:51 pm
we need some middle of the road common sense candidates. everything is so polarized now days.
July 13th, 20125:53 pm
BAS and Carroll – I was totally joking when I posted that the FO should have scheduled a C Section during the break. Sorry. It was so absurd, I thought it was obvious.
Brian, his wife and child are way more important than a game of baseball.
I hope no one thought I was serious.
If you did……you are a loser!!
Could very well be Herrera you just never no.
July 13th, 20125:54 pm
Wren just sold off Sutton for a bag of balls. Good move Frank among many he’s made this season.
The Olympics bore me to tears….
No thank you to the hours of sob stories that are intertwined with 2 minutes per hour of actual action!
Brewers prepared to offer Greinke somewhere around 100 million for 5 years. The braves CANNOT and will not make that kind of offer. So Forget Greinke guys. And if we trade prospects for a 3 month rental then we are about as dumb as our ownership looks.
July 13th, 20125:55 pm
I saw at least three posts suggesting something like that; I figgered at least one of ‘em was real.
July 13th, 20125:56 pm
Herrera? a 66 OPS+ hitter in Coors would be an upgrade? Really????
July 13th, 20125:57 pm
I’ve enjoyed this election cycle by ignoring it all.
It’s been great!
McFann :Ô: :Ô: :ô:
Ms. Rogers From my understanding, it was based on a doctor’s recommendation after a visit in the last day or so.
Praying all goes well!…
And thanks so much for the info!
Herrara plays third and short stop. makes a little since but he isnt that good. Batting around 240. Just play Pastornicky…he is that good.
I keep telling my girls that, someday, they too could be president. The 4 year old told me, with that serious look that she only gets when she’s talking about dinosaurs or karate, that she didn’t want to be president, that she wanted to work at the grocery store.
Fine by me. She’ll probably be a lot happier.
July 13th, 20125:59 pm
Alright, time to make like BMac’s baby and head out.
Have a great weekend everyone.
thats 240 in Coors which would prolly mean 200 in the Ted. hell BAS could come outta retirement and hit that….
July 13th, 20126:00 pm
BAS – Gottcha. I just wanted to clear my name.
Some folks are just stupid. And the game hasn’t even started.
Murph- You been to Walmart lately?
We do not need to trade away our future for a stop gap SS. Check out the winning % when The Rev started and when Simmons started. Not much a difference.
We’ll make it for 6 weeks or so.
July 13th, 20126:01 pm
Good for her!…
Have a good weekend!…
If Greinke turns down the 100 million then that means he will test the free agency market…
Time to put a little separation between us and the Mets.
July 13th, 20126:02 pm
winning % between the two had very little to do with how they played. certainly not an excuse to tempt the bbgods and stay with poor players
braves are going to make a trade on a short stop. Gonzalez said it yesterday on the radio.
July 13th, 20126:03 pm
The 4 yr old is wise.
July 13th, 20126:04 pm
Gonzales said they were gonna keep parrish too

“YB” I see you’re agreeing with “MFin04″ so not much need in relaying what they said. You can “google” it yourself anyway. I will just drop it and ride off into the sunset with my own beliefs about it. It’s pretty obvious there is an “unpatriotic persuasion” on the blog right now. Kinda surprised me, really! Should have know though!
July 13th, 20126:05 pm
S/B “should have known though” on last post at 6:04PM
July 13th, 20126:06 pm
The Braves got Ozzy Osbourne to comment for Chipper’s commemorative program, which went on sale today at Turner Field and the Braves clubhouse store at CNN Center for $5…
“Thank you for all the support you’ve given me all these years by having ‘Crazy Train’ play as your walk-up music. It’s been my honor to accompany you every time you’ve stepped up to the plate. I’m in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, and I know that you’ll be in the Baseball Hall of Fame one day soon. So from a Hall of Famer to a future Hall of Famer, congratulations on an amazing baseball career.”
When one of the Braves PR guys showed it to Chipper, he said “That’s pretty cool.” Indeed it is.
July 13th, 20126:07 pm
And if we do trade for a SS, half the blog will declare it’s an ozzie smith and half will complain ceaselessly….
I should have posted this sooner, but it’s pretty clear the Braves are working on a trade to acquire a SS and that it’s just not completed yet. Here’s what Frank Wren had to say when I asked him about it this afternoon:
“I think we’ve had conversations over the break with clubs. It’s one of those, can’t really speed the process up. we’re moving along and hopefully in the next day or so we’ll get to the end of it.”
As for why not call up Pastornicky in the short-term, he said: “We’ve put him in a situation where he’s learning to play, he’s doing really well at second. And he’s going to play some outfield. He’s in a role right now where we want to leave him in the situation he’s in.”
Don’t be surprised if Wren is working on killing two birds with one stone … Brendan Ryan and Jason Vargas of the Mariners. I won’t be surprised if it is at that level.
July 13th, 20126:08 pm
nolie – it is all about winning – not player performance.
And yes, FG did say that…and we know what happened. Good point.
Going to feed the fish. Thunder in the distance.
you so right Nolie…funny but true.
if they get Ozzie Smith I’ll complain too. great player but a little long in the tooth for even the Braves
July 13th, 20126:10 pm
According to Frank Wren, Baby Mac is here
July 13th, 2012
“…….And if we do trade for a SS, half the blog will declare it’s an ozzie smith and half will complain ceaselessly….
Phil, how about us wait and see’ers? Heh!
I always liked Ozzy. He isn’t stupid. He’s a nut, but if you can translate what he is trying to say through all that mess of jumbled words, he is pretty damn smart. Also funny as hell.
July 13th, 20126:11 pm
Brendan ryan is awful!
July 13th, 20126:13 pm
ryan = great glove which is my guess what they want
July 13th, 2012
“……nolie – it is all about winning – not player performance.
And yes, FG did say that…and we know what happened. Good point.
So jimmy, which appendage will you dissect today for those little flesh-eaters?
Please no Vargas….
July 13th, 20126:14 pm
player performance affects winning, anybody who thinks not should become a Twinkies fan for a few years. sheeeesh
July 13th, 20126:17 pm
Went to ‘HIGH’ Bridge State Park today, but no one was toking. Dang!
Time to get this second half of Cap tipping and keep running him out there underway.
Ben Maller @benmaller
Braves Eric O’Flaherty’s (1.54 ERA) lowest mark by N.L. lefty reliever since start of 2011. Cubs James Russell (2.27 ERA) i2nd.
One of the Mariners RP could be in a deal with those other two. Kill three birds in one stone. Just saying to keep expectations at a minimum. Now the vets here know all about that, but the ones new to the game I’m trying to help if it comes to that.
Alex Wood in today’s start: 4 IP, 6 hits, 4 ER, 2 BB’s, 4 K’s and 1 HR allowed.
Ozzy Osbourne= fried and scrambled brain, thanks to drugs of a lifetime.
SHEETS, SHEETS, he’s our man……
July 13th, 20126:19 pm
how many times did Alex fall down Efrim???
July 13th, 2012
“……Alex Wood in today’s start: 4 IP, 6 hits, 4 ER, 2 BB’s, 4 K’s and 1 HR allowed……”
Ouch! Hey, best LH’er available with our second pick, right?
July 13th, 20126:20 pm
do we call him Unpolished or Spastic ??
July 13th, 20126:21 pm
Yeah EF, how many?
FYI, DirecTV is offering MLB free for the next week on channels 720-749. Get to keep up with the “Nasty Nats” live for free now! Guess they’re needing more new customers.
July 13th, 20126:22 pm
After today’s outing, a little of each sounds about right.
Haha! Love it, noles. Spastic!!!!!!!!
July 13th, 20126:24 pm
Looks like Rev will be starting in left next year!
July 13th, 20126:28 pm
My guess is the Brewers offer something like five years, 90-95 million. That’s what I was thinking awareness would top out at if he was hammered and we got one more pitching injury….
move Prado to third
move Uggs to Left
move Tyler to second
move Jason to Center
move Diaz/Hinske to Right
Walla…world series champs in 13
July 13th, 20126:30 pm
July 13th, 20126:31 pm
What’s Blauser up to? Couldn’t we plug him in for a couple games?
I’d be down with Scutaro but he’s making six million this year and I’m not sure we’d be down to pay much more of his contract….
YAY!! Congrats to the McCann Family and Ashley’s Family!!
July 13th, 20126:32 pm
Oh ok Bay Area. …i missed out on the context.
I like Scuts too but I think they only pay for a glove
July 13th, 20126:33 pm
And move Venters to utility infielder…
July 13th, 20126:35 pm
we should make Jonny into a catcher. he has a strong arm and isn’t fat….
July 13th, 20126:37 pm
Or maybe the Brewers are using Heyman. Might just make it look like they will offer him a deal, for the fans…
I wouldn’t be surprised to see someone like Brendan Ryan coming over. He’s a heckuva glove man and has hit better in the past. He’d be a younger Jack Wilson.
I guess it depends on if they have any confidence in Jack’s ability to start regularly for 6-8 weeks.
July 13th, 20126:39 pm
That’s true…but he’d just throw it into center like Murphy.
Ryan has another year or so left IIRC
July 13th, 20126:41 pm
yeah, prolly throw it in the dirt in front of the bag
His contract is up this year and he is a 2nd year arb eligible for 2013.
July 13th, 20126:42 pm
dire times when Brendan Ryan is seen as an upgrade….
July 13th, 20126:43 pm
ah so, they could sign him as backup for next season or non-tender him huh?
July 13th, 20126:48 pm
I feel like I haven’t seen a baseball game in a year…..
July 13th, 20126:49 pm
What’s the expectation with the weather there….do they expect to play baseball tonight?
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
