Sutton is having a couple of 2010 Conrad Brooks moments at the plate this year. You guys should know better not to buy into looking like this is a big problem . The guy has been with 4 organizations in the last couple of years! That should tell you something.

And give back after they sign Nick Swisher to a three year contract….

I’d be interested to know where the guys on this year’s all-star teams were drafted… how many guys of those guys were taken in later rounds?
Someone must know this or be able to find it without much trouble.
I suspect that the top few rounds of the draft aren’t the end all be all of prospect acquisition.

it tells you a lot less than his career totals tell you, and they are not all that bad . he is a 102 OPS+ hitter so don’t give me a bunch a”this year” bunk. he would be better than Jack,Josh or Tyler at this point and would have cost nothing. not saying they should trade for him back

no they aren’t by any means Murph, but they do more or less follow a pattern of the higher the round the more long term success. but they are all fairly low.

Sort of hoping there are very few offers made to upcoming free agents than expected. Like I’ve said, I see lock offers for Hamilton, Hamels, Bourn, Greinke, A. Sanchez and Swisher. Not sure if others will get offers, though.

Given regular playing time at short, Jack Wilson may surprise us. He had some very good years in Pittsburgh (201 hit season), and has a career .265 BA. His last few years have been as a back up. If he plays good defense and hits .240 – .260 that would be ok until Simba is healthy.

I haven’t loathed a Braves player in quite a long time. Disliked a few very, very much (Proctor, Wickman, Francoeur, etc.) but not full blown disgust and detestation. That streak would end the day Swisher dotted his “i” on a Braves contract.

Contrary to popular belief, Doug Melvin says his phone has not been constantly ringing with teams trying to pry away Zack Greinke.
“There’s probably more rumors than anything,” the Brewers general manager said Thursday while watching his team’s informal workout at Miller Park.
“I think, respectfully, general managers don’t call when you’re eight games out (in the division), six games out of a wild card. They don’t call but their let their interest be known in a different way. Their scouts will talk to our scouts and say, ‘We’re interested in somebody.’
“Last year, I wouldn’t have called somebody who was six games out and ask if you’ll give up your best player for prospects. There’s always speculation on any free agent player. You hear it with other players like (Shane) Victorino and (Cole) Hamels. It’s the same with Zack.”
Melvin reiterated his desire to see how the Brewers play over the next couple of weeks before deciding whether to trade anyone before the July 31 non-waiver deadline. There’s also a chance that the Brewers will take another run at getting Greinke to sign a contract extension before the 31st but Melvin didn’t sound optimistic of a positive outcome on that front.
When players get this close (to free agency), there’s not many that will sign, at that (talent) level,” said Melvin. “He’s a difference-maker to a team that’s got a chance to go to the post-season. Unless you’re raising the bar (to a higher salary), you usually go on the market.”

Chances are pretty good that Jack Wilson is a little over the hill. That might be why he hasn’t played regularly for the past few years.
I’ll be OK with him in the short run, but I think it might be expecting too much for him to get too far north of the Mendoza line.

I think we fill most of our holes via trade. I know we don’t have to offer a ton, but I just doubt we go on a spending spree this offseason. Maybe one contract of three years? The only guy they’ll go big after is probably trying to keep Bourn. But I’d bet that goes away pretty fast after Boras’ demands come out.

Thanks for the new Blog, Ms. Rogers! Gameday—FINALLY!! This ASB has seemed longer than others…
McCann’s wife is due with their baby boy on July 21st so there might be a game or two in there he’ll miss. But what a fun time for the two of them and the anticipation of their son’s arrival.
Aw, shucks, they’re our of town that weekend! (And that’s a double-header…forgot about that…). Somebody else told me she was due on the 27th—that would be better ’cause they’re home, then…
