they are not gonna move Bourn
July 13th, 20122:59 pm
Which he will turn down and take a ton of money from the Giants or Nats and the Braves will happily take the extra pick
July 13th, 20123:00 pm
at least they caint tunnel into Fla
Sutton is having a couple of 2010 Conrad Brooks moments at the plate this year. You guys should know better not to buy into looking like this is a big problem . The guy has been with 4 organizations in the last couple of years! That should tell you something.
July 13th, 20123:01 pm
@ shaun, i’m reading his tweet and looks like the trade is a done deal. Upton will bat second in the lineup. Thanks for the memories Prado and best of luck.
and the Braves will happily take the extra pick
And give back after they sign Nick Swisher to a three year contract….
Could definitely see that happening. Wren is allergic to multiple high picks in the draft.
In football news, top prep linebacker Reuben Foster has ditched Bama for Auburn!! woohoo!!!
oh and $60 mill of Brees’ deal is guaranteed
July 13th, 20123:02 pm
Morris Code, who is “his”?
July 13th, 20123:03 pm
I wouldn’t mind that tradeoff really…. though, I’m not sure that Swisher is a “Braves” kind of player (if the rumors of douchebaggery are to be believed)
I’d be interested to know where the guys on this year’s all-star teams were drafted… how many guys of those guys were taken in later rounds?
Someone must know this or be able to find it without much trouble.
I suspect that the top few rounds of the draft aren’t the end all be all of prospect acquisition.
July 13th, 20123:04 pm
it tells you a lot less than his career totals tell you, and they are not all that bad . he is a 102 OPS+ hitter so don’t give me a bunch a”this year” bunk. he would be better than Jack,Josh or Tyler at this point and would have cost nothing. not saying they should trade for him back
au contraire…. “no bat that can produce .300/100/30″….. Try a healthy Heyward & Freeman for the balance of the season oh cynical one.
July 13th, 20123:06 pm
okay so why does Boston, Atlanta and Tampa give up on him? You know something they don’t?
If Swisher were to become a Brave… well, at least he’d make former Braves’ douchebags Fick and Rocker less lonely at alumni days.
July 13th, 20123:07 pm
no they aren’t by any means Murph, but they do more or less follow a pattern of the higher the round the more long term success. but they are all fairly low.
40% of all first round picks never see the bigs, but lower rounds are worse
I wouldn’t mind that tradeoff really….
Sort of hoping there are very few offers made to upcoming free agents than expected. Like I’ve said, I see lock offers for Hamilton, Hamels, Bourn, Greinke, A. Sanchez and Swisher. Not sure if others will get offers, though.
July 13th, 20123:09 pm
Bourn is history…
Might as well DFA him right now and be done with it.
July 13th, 20123:10 pm
It’s a little known fact that the reason so many draft picks are eventually tossed on the scrap pile is that they pretty much can’t play…..
Jon Morosi @jonmorosi
#Twins have two scouts watching #BlueJays prospect-laden Lansing affiliate. Liriano and Capps are fits for Toronto.
so far, I can see there were 5 #1 overall picks in the game: Chipper, Hamilton,Harper,Strasburg and David Price
Brian from SC
Hello, folks. Looking forward to Braves baseball tonight. It feels like it’s been a month.
what the hell difference does that make to our present situation? not a damn thing.
obviously they picked him up for short term use and let him go when he was no longer needed.
I’m not saying he is a regular starter, not saying that he should have been up here instead of at AAA, just that he would be a better current option than we now have
July 13th, 20123:11 pm
I’m thinking about digging a tunnel from my place in Utah to Mexico to funnel in some drugs. I could use the extra income…………..
Gotta go get a new shovel though.
July 13th, 20123:12 pm
better buy an extra DS1….
Wow. Just noticed we have another off day on Monday. Incredible. Just not a lot of baseball played these days.
I found a site for all the draft history, but it’s gonna take forever to look em up individually
July 13th, 20123:13 pm
Young owns us
oops wrong link
Brave New World
Given regular playing time at short, Jack Wilson may surprise us. He had some very good years in Pittsburgh (201 hit season), and has a career .265 BA. His last few years have been as a back up. If he plays good defense and hits .240 – .260 that would be ok until Simba is healthy.
If Swisher were to become a Brave… well, at least he’d make former Braves’ douchebags Fick and Rocker less lonely at alumni days
I haven’t loathed a Braves player in quite a long time. Disliked a few very, very much (Proctor, Wickman, Francoeur, etc.) but not full blown disgust and detestation. That streak would end the day Swisher dotted his “i” on a Braves contract.
July 13th, 20123:14 pm
If we did trade for Justin Upton, we’d get 2 out of 3 good years from him. Just expect a drop off in 2014. He’s an every other year sorta guy (so far).
July 13th, 20123:15 pm
Contrary to popular belief, Doug Melvin says his phone has not been constantly ringing with teams trying to pry away Zack Greinke.
“There’s probably more rumors than anything,” the Brewers general manager said Thursday while watching his team’s informal workout at Miller Park.
“I think, respectfully, general managers don’t call when you’re eight games out (in the division), six games out of a wild card. They don’t call but their let their interest be known in a different way. Their scouts will talk to our scouts and say, ‘We’re interested in somebody.’
“Last year, I wouldn’t have called somebody who was six games out and ask if you’ll give up your best player for prospects. There’s always speculation on any free agent player. You hear it with other players like (Shane) Victorino and (Cole) Hamels. It’s the same with Zack.”
Melvin reiterated his desire to see how the Brewers play over the next couple of weeks before deciding whether to trade anyone before the July 31 non-waiver deadline. There’s also a chance that the Brewers will take another run at getting Greinke to sign a contract extension before the 31st but Melvin didn’t sound optimistic of a positive outcome on that front.
When players get this close (to free agency), there’s not many that will sign, at that (talent) level,” said Melvin. “He’s a difference-maker to a team that’s got a chance to go to the post-season. Unless you’re raising the bar (to a higher salary), you usually go on the market.”
@ Shaun, the “his” would be the great Buster.
July 13th, 20123:17 pm
I feel a Yuniesky Betancourt deal coming!
Brave New World
Chances are pretty good that Jack Wilson is a little over the hill. That might be why he hasn’t played regularly for the past few years.
I’ll be OK with him in the short run, but I think it might be expecting too much for him to get too far north of the Mendoza line.
That streak would end the day Swisher dotted his “i” on a Braves contract.
I think we fill most of our holes via trade. I know we don’t have to offer a ton, but I just doubt we go on a spending spree this offseason. Maybe one contract of three years? The only guy they’ll go big after is probably trying to keep Bourn. But I’d bet that goes away pretty fast after Boras’ demands come out.
July 13th, 20123:18 pm
July 13th, 2012
Wow. Just noticed we have another off day on Monday. Incredible. Just not a lot of baseball played these days.
Gotta have your rest in such a fierce sport…
McFann :Ô: :Ô: :ô:
Thanks for the new Blog, Ms. Rogers! Gameday—FINALLY!! This ASB has seemed longer than others…
McCann’s wife is due with their baby boy on July 21st so there might be a game or two in there he’ll miss. But what a fun time for the two of them and the anticipation of their son’s arrival.
Aw, shucks, they’re our of town that weekend! (And that’s a double-header…forgot about that…). Somebody else told me she was due on the 27th—that would be better ’cause they’re home, then…
Either way, yes—very exciting for sure!…
July 13th, 20123:19 pm
Shanks says the Braves have recalled Boscan from AAA?? I don’t get it…
i just vomited a bit in my mouth reading that
July 13th, 20123:20 pm
Josh Wilson???? what the crap
My Boscan post may be related to the McCann post preceding it…
Tom Tango is Shaun’s hero….
July 13th, 20123:21 pm
just looked at Buster’s twitter page, nothing about a done deal, just speculation from 4 days ago
Cannot say for certain that Drew Sutton would be a better alternative. Reminds of Gregor Blanco talk from 2 years ago.
July 13th, 20123:25 pm
agree no guarantees, but he hits better and he plays better defense, so the odds are certainly in the favor of it.
and Gregor is hitting 103 this year…
July 13th, 20123:26 pm
If that is the way you feel then you should be pushing for the Braves to trade Bourne, why hold on to him if there is no way you can win this year. I really feel the Braves are an ace pitcher away from being able to win it all.
My guess is a deal for a utility infielder is sort of close? Maybe a trade coming soon if they called up Boscan instead of Wilson.
July 13th, 20123:27 pm
Thunder, lightning and raining like crazy here.
So Boscan will be the fill-in at SS? Go getem JC!
Naturally Mac prefers to attend his child’s birthing than actually play ball…..sigh.
July 13th, 20123:28 pm
If you trade Bourn then add an ace pitcher, you’ve basically created very little difference in overall value
Braves win 2/3, Bank On It
Constanza could catch, play short and pitch in a pinch….
MD Braves fan
July 13th, 20123:29 pm
I really hope Sheets doesn’t shart Sunday. That would really stink in that Georgia heat.
The Braves arent trading their best player. Bourn is not getting moved.
but still, why call up Boscan anyway? Wilson in the trade? Ross in the trade? Mac in the trade oh my
gotta admit I am having trouble understanding it. just a big dummy I guess
Atlanta Braves @Braves
Tonight’s lineup vs. NYM (7:35, PTV/680AM/BRN): Bourn 8 Prado 7 Heyward 9 Jones 5 Freeman 3 Uggla 4 Ross 2 Wilson 6 Hudson 1
Mac not in the lineup tonight……
July 13th, 20123:30 pm
my bad nolie, Sutton’s been with 6 different organizations the LAST 3 years.
Gregor coming back down to earth after a good start. My guess is that probably won’t be starting for anybody come next season.
Maybe McCann’s wife is going early?
I hope it’s Scutaro for Juan Francisco. I want to see Francisco get a hold of some in Colorado.
July 13th, 20123:31 pm
@ NickB, not Buster Onley’s twitter page, it’s on Buster Johnson’s twitter page.
Either McCann’s wife is in labor, or he’s being traded.
Mac not in the lineup tonight…Efrim
prolly traded for Scutero
The only reason I could see Boscan called up would be to fill the roster spot and enable Ross to PH for a few days while Jack Wilson mans SS while they wait for whoever the picked up to arrive in Atlanta
Is Bmac going on the DL? Ross starting and Boscan called up.
Why not get rid of Ross? I never did buy much into having the best backup in the league. Who cares? Can you name who backed up Molina last year in St. Louis? I will deal him if there was something to get back in return. Of course, he’s great in the clubhouse……..
July 13th, 20123:32 pm
who the heck is Buster Johnson??
July 13th, 20123:33 pm
Pretty sure his wife is in labor. The guy is not getting traded….
Look for McCann’s home numbers to drop drop drop after the new baby arrives… but his road numbers should skyrocket.
I got more done around the house last night, with no Mrs Murph or Mini-Murphs around, than I have in the last 4 weekends combined.
again what the hell does that have to do with us getting through the next two months here?
he is an average hitter and an average defender, none of out other current guys are.
talk about being OCD
Sounds like little Mac is coming a little early. That’s the only way things add up.
Maybe BMac is going to be the backup SS/utiliy guy while Wilson starts?
there’s no trade, Mac’s getting off for baby delivery
Boscan called up to take Simmons’ spot on the 25-man. This is probably because McCann will be out for his child’s birth, and the Braves need a backup catcher. When McCann returns, Boscan will go back down, either for Pastornicky or to give way to a new SS acquisition.
July 13th, 20123:34 pm
Hmmm that sucks losing Mac when He was hot, i wonder if he’s getting a few days of paternity leave?
July 13th, 20123:35 pm
so if Jack goes down in the second inning, who plays short? Hinske?
Yeah I had forgotten about the new Macnugget on it’s way
Remember Mac has a current 4-game homer streak. Maybe they don’t like the pitching matchup and are trying to keep that intact.
July 13th, 20123:36 pm
OCD, too funny. You brought up Sutton to begin with. You kill me man, the first to make retorts about somebody posting but when called up get all defensive. Get the last word in, you know you need to.
Why not get rid of Ross?
Why get rid of Ross?
Prado would be the emergency SS, I would guess.
Maybe Mac will be back for Sunday? Or just back for the Giants series. Either way, congrats to him.
Jayson Stark @jaysonst
Add another name to the #Tigers 2B shopping list – i.e., their old pal Omar Infante. If #Marlins sell, Infante is an excellent fit in Det.
Better hope Wilson does not get hurt or all those pining for Prado to play SS may get their wish. Seriously who is the backup SS right now?
July 13th, 20123:37 pm
congrats to BMAC
Kind of selfish of Heap’s wife to have the baby now, what with Simmons on the DL and all that.
nah I vote Mac for Scutero. we all know that Mac is fat and worthless anyway
Hello everyone! My top trade list
1. Josh Willingham
2. Justin Upton
4. Garza, because the Braves clobbered him
SS Only One
This is my wish list, and options. Wren can make two moves? We are in the Play -Offs, and deep into October.
Sweet crud, y’all almost scared me outta my half mind! Er…half outta my mind…er…something…
This is intense, anyway…
Mac is 0 for 7 with 2 BB against Young and Ross is 0 for 2.
Fredi is a dumazz. Why would you sit McCann when his bat was starting to heat up and the Braves need him to hit in the 2nd half. I could care lees if he is Huddy’s catcher, they need Mac’s bat in there especially against a team right behind us.
July 13th, 20123:38 pm
Wow, I didn’t know Chris Young was still in the league. I don’t mind that matchup. Let’s get him.
July 13th, 20123:39 pm
Why would you sit McCann when his bat was starting to heat up and the Braves need him to hit in the 2nd half.
Guys wife is having a baby. Cut Fredo some slack, I think this was an okay decision.
Hope Boscan aught an early flight from Louisville…
And if Josh Wilson is gonna back up Jack Wilson, he needed to be on the same flight.
If Bmac is on paternity leave, Boscan can take his roster spot, still leaves a slot open and we need some sort of backup for Jack Wilson. Beachy could have done it, but he’s hurt.
July 13th, 20123:40 pm
you too are full of crap Frankie. cause it really makes soooo much difference to the current situation that other teams moved him around. so much difference that you feel the need to parrot the same crap in half a dozen posts. learn a little baseball and get back to me later….
@TomahawkTalk: “The team can use another player from its 40-man roster to replace a player on the paternity leave list. #TheMoreYouKnow”
BravePack, obviously because as others have said his wife might be going into labor early. At least wait until we know why before you start blaming Fredi.
@NickB, oh Buster Johnson is a part time mechanic that works on my car from time to time.
Does “paternity leave” open up a roster spot?
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
