I think that because of his GREAT defense…an a decent production for 3 more season, making him able to reach 450 hrs. and nearly 1,400 rbi’s he’ll get a shot to the hall
By the by, DOB, next road trip to Miami, try Sparky’s Roadside BBQ on NE 1st Street & 2nd Ave. Just a micro-smidgen beneath Tom Jenkins, and they’re right near the Rip-off Dome.
I think he has to get 500 HR’s to even have a chance…. 8-10 years from now, will voters really remember how great a fielder he was? Maybe…….. but I don’t think they will remember ENOUGH for him to get in on those merits alone.
Part of Andruws problem was he lacked some flair. His crazy bird like sense gave him some freakish first step on the ball. If you watched him everyday you came to appreciate how much ground he covered and while making it look pretty effortless.
One intangible that could help would be Smoltz, Glavine and Maddux all talking about how important he was to them, and he really was.
Sorry to all the Andruw lovers, but he really poisoned the well for me with that stupid little smirk after every futile flailing strikeout. And that smirk became more-and-more common the longer he was with the Braves. The last 2-3 years just annoyed the crap out of me.
To piggyback on the Dawg,s Bob Gibson note, I don’t know if there is enough cash to pay that guy what he would worth in today’s market and if the umpire gave him any crap about a brushback he would probably throw at him too. On another note, Selig has to do something about this embarrassing banana republic/Chicago all-star voting mechanism when he moronically put the World Series home field on the line to go with it. We’re playing for game 7 at home and we got that sumo wrestler at third instead of David Wright.
Maybe Andruw gets to 500 homeruns, seems unlikely though. I don’t know that gets him in the HOF anyway, I mean ten years of platooning, doesn’t scream Hall Of Fame. He might of had a better shot if something had knocked him out of the game at 31.
The Angels plan to make a run at trading for Brewers starter Zack Greinke if the right-hander becomes available prior to the trade deadline, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.
I can’t imagine them declining Dan Haren’s contract option. Ervin Santana probably makes sense to decline. He’ll be added to an already loaded starting pitcher market this offseason.
Braves center fielder Michael Bourn believes the Nationals were interested in him last summer, Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post reports. The Nationals, who continue to seek a long-term answer in center field, are expected to pursue Bourn when he hits free agency this coming offseason. Bourn told Kilgore he’ll take his time deciding on where to sign his next contract.
Lots of teams after Bourn this winter. Giants, Phillies, Nationals, Braves and I wouldn’t put it past the Yankees with them shifting Granderson to a corner. I really don’t think we’ll have much of a chance to re-sign him.
Our systems lacks a projected impact hitter. Were loaded with arms, defense, and speed.
Yup. They haven’t really focused on the hit tool very much since DeMacio took over. Even in 2012 – 3rd round – C Bryan de la Rosa, 4th round – CF Justin Black, 5th round – Blake Brown, 12th round – Conner Lien, 16th round Fernelys Sanchez – athletes with questionable hit tools. Matt Lipka, Todd Cunningham, Andrelton Simmons, Joe Leonard in 2010. Ahmed in 2011.
I don’t know. It certainly hasn’t been a focus. They have stuck with pitching, and potential up-the-middle players. Nice strategy – but I’m always a fan of diversity and it’d be great if they just took a hitter like Richie Shaffer for example. Someone who can just rake. Oh well. Most prospects past pick #15 all have some sort of warts. One time we picked Top 10…..we have Polished.
Cunningham looks like a 4th OF’er to me….. His numbers appear to be the product of a lot of balls finding holes…. If he repeated this performance in 2013 or hit the cover off in Spring Training, I might buy into him as a starter, but now, he looks like he’s having a lucky year at the plate
Todd Cunningham could be an option for CF if they decide to use most resources elsewhere.
That’s a stretch. But I’m sure he’ll be pumped up this offseason like some others were. I do not believe he is more than a 4th outfielder/tweener type.
Yeah that makes sense. Gonna be interesting to see how the Braves go about the offseason. I highly doubt we re-sign Bourn… I see us working hard in the trade market to fill holes.
It’s going to be really interesting to see how many teams extend 12.5 million dollar qualifying offers to free agents. You lose your first round pick if you are selecting 11-30. Teams in the Top 10 lose their 2nd rounder for signing a guy with an offer.
Rays – B.J. Upton, Padres – Carlos Quentin, Giants – Melky Cabrera – tough decisions, but I’d lean toward no on all of them. A slew of starting pitchers are in a good place for offers, I’d think. But U haven’t looked through all of the free agents.
I’m hoping we can somehow fill ALL of our holes without having to forfeit a draft pick for a player through free agency – even if we get a comp pick back in the 30’s from Bourn. God forbid we have 2 picks in the Top 40 selections in the draft……
Hey, in that bunch of ASG clips they showed before the rosters were announced, they showed the winning run scoring in 2008, but failed to show anything from 2010, the NL’s first win in 13 years…
