Well, I bet Tyler Pastonicky feels pretty insignificant right now. Not only are the Braves looking for a shortstop to trade for, but they have other AAA options available that – apparently – they’d go to before bringing the Rev back.
Heads are gonna Roll if we dont at least get one of the wildcard slots, This SEC fanbase is Hungry, because the NL is so Futile this year, No Dominant NL Team
Eh, sorry, I don’t know that it’s on TV anywhere—I’ve got the DVDs (they’ve released all but Vol. 4, and I’d really like to have Vol. 4…). And I was finally able to lay my hands on a DVD of DuckTales: The Movie and watched it for the first time last night. That’s my kind of movie!…
Having a real hard time grasping why they make a move for Greinke. He’s a very good pitcher that would make a difference the remainder of the season and push for the playoffs. Still, you need him to do more with a acquistion cost this high. He did not have a good postseason at all last year. Isn’t that why you go get a pitcher of this caliber? Not to just get in but make a deep push? Too many question marks with him regarding pitching in high pressure games. . Need a starter, but he’s not the answer. For what he costs, have to have total confidence this guy can win a playoff game. I don’t think the risk-reward is worth it.
“Just won’t happen if they only tread water until he returns.”
I don’t see Simmons being a main cog in the Braves contending. If they had to depend on him to win 92 games, they we were pretty much screwed from the beginning of the year, right? Since we went with Pastornicky and all, and no I don’t think it was just because of his injury.
Bourn
Prado
Chipper
Uggla
McCann
Freeman
Heyward
SS
Is a good enough lineup to win A LOT of games. Especially if half of them start hitting.
What about a deal for Izturis and Greinke? I know Izturis doesn’t have a huge bat but he could be useful as insurance til Simmons is back plus doesn’t cost much.
It’s not a matter of Simmons making the difference – it was a commentary on playing .,500 in the time (six weeks) that he’d be gone and being able to win 92 games as Tomahawkin contended.
Lew – Got ya. Yeh, I don’t think Simmons makes the difference though if that is the argument. I mean To say they will turn it on after he gets here, seems to be kind of absurd. It’s not like they have been great with or without him. They need their hitters to hit consistently. Bourn and Prado have been consistent. Everyone else seems to be hot/warm or ice cold.
Just like I’ve been saying all along – If the Braves hit and pitch to their potential they will win no matter who plays short. If they don’t, it wouldn’t matter if Ozzie Smith was out there.
“That’s why I think at this point we need to be very proactive.”
Proactive for what though? A starting hitter or a pitcher? Surely not for a no bat, defensive short stop? We already have that in Jack Wilson, who has been a pretty good situational “hitter” this year.
MFin04, obviously your not going to trade for a starting SS of a very high caliber cause once Simmons is back, what would you do with him? So I think your main focus is a starting pitcher, but it can’t be just a mid rotation type.. we’ve got enough of those, we’ve got to get a very good 1 or 2 type starter.
Pitching to their potential is the problem. 15th out of 16th in quality starts, pretty obvious what the issue is here. Shortstop is the least of the worries right now.
So it hitting to their potential. Freeman, Uggla, McCann, well below their potential. Not to mention our main bench bat, Hinske is well below his potential. Heck even Heyward is probably below is potential.
2 years out of baseball and two AA starts. Not really how you plan it the right way but with so many question marks, they really don’t have the timeframe to be patient with Sheets. Got to see what he has right now.
I’d be alright with adding Willingham and Carroll to our bench. I’m just not sure what it would take to get something like this done. I know it shouldn’t take much to get Carroll but knowing the Twins, they’d probably ask for the farm for Willingham and at that price it just won’t be worth it.

Well, I bet Tyler Pastonicky feels pretty insignificant right now. Not only are the Braves looking for a shortstop to trade for, but they have other AAA options available that – apparently – they’d go to before bringing the Rev back.
That’s gotta hurt.

They could be willing to include Pastornicky in a trade. To me, that makes some sense.

Two Bold Statements that will be worth Noting
1) The Braves are Going Nowhere Unless Chipper plays No less than 60 games in the second half, his presence in the lineup is that important
2) The Braves Must and I mean Must play .500 Baseball, Til Lil Andy Gets Back
I still think this team can go 92-70 as I called in S. Training

If the Braves go 18-17 the next six weeks until Simmons returns (IF he does by then), the Braves would have to go 28-14 til the end to win 92 games.
Just won’t happen if they only tread water until he returns.

Bourn
Prado
Chipper
Uggla
McCann
Freeman
Heyward

Frankie

Pitching to their potential is the problem. 15th out of 16th in quality starts, pretty obvious what the issue is here. Shortstop is the least of the worries right now.

I really have no read at all on how good Sheets might or might not be, but there could be an additional benefit to having him on the staff.
We do not have a veteran starting pitcher who pitches like Delgado does. Could be that Sheets presence might be beneficial in The Kid’s development.

So it hitting to their potential. Freeman, Uggla, McCann, well below their potential. Not to mention our main bench bat, Hinske is well below his potential. Heck even Heyward is probably below is potential.

I’d be alright with adding Willingham and Carroll to our bench. I’m just not sure what it would take to get something like this done. I know it shouldn’t take much to get Carroll but knowing the Twins, they’d probably ask for the farm for Willingham and at that price it just won’t be worth it.

They could ask for the farm, but they won’t get bnut a few of the outbuildings for him and maybe a cow or two.
