How about that steering wheel on the ‘misdirected’ T-Bird of 1966….it slid to the right so the driver had more room to exit cockpit….sequential turn signals…..1966! Not a sports car for sure, buta true classic and a beauty. IMO looked equally great in either black or white.
Corvettes and T-Birds small and sporty to begin with. Corvette stayed more or less true to the concept, Ford soon took the T-Bird in an entirely different direction. I hated that they did that — nolie
I’ve only seen pictures of the early ‘vettes, but you’re right – not only were they awesome too, but they never changed into the bigger, luxury car as T-Bird did.
Chevrolet’s from ‘59 to ‘61 got off track, but came back after ‘62. I had a ‘62 Impala convertible fully loaded and that was a very nice car, until a drunk hit my wife head-on in front of Lockheed. She barely made it and the car was a total loss.

My father lives next to a man, James, that went into a Chevy dealer in 1969 to look into purchasing a 396SS Camaro. As luck would have it, another customer had recently refused one because the factory made a mistake.
Instead of the shifter in the middle, it was on the steering wheel. ALL SS models had the shifter on the console. The salesman made an offer that James couldn’t refuse. He took it.
Nova SSs ruled too.
and I had a 66 GTO that I loved. was a demo that had power seat and power windows, very unusual for that car back then. It was bronze and I liked the 66 best because of the vented rear light treatment, didn’t like the Judge near as much when they switched design

You are correct—the ‘focal’ blog turned into a leaping frog a while back…..if you need a little meat, just read between the lines…..all is really fine.
James eventually sold the car to his brother and, then, bought it back. It’s in his garage as we speak. James was a body shop owner and had several employees.
As anal as he was with the work his customers received, you can imagine how well this Camaro looked over the years.
Right now, it looks BETTER than showroom. For one thing, today’s paints are better.
My father and I checked the value of this vehicle on NADA, after James turned down a $230,000 offer at a car show.
Of course, getting what it’s valued at is a whole different story, but it was listed under NADA, as being worth more than TWICE what he was offered.
James, who’s now retired and suffers from MS, couldn’t believe it. He only refused the guys 230k offer because he didn’t want to part with it.
Here’s the kicker; do you remember the mistake of James buying it in the first place – shift on the column instead of the console?
Well, there were only ELEVEN made that way in ‘69.
How many of those do you think are left? We haven’t been able to find that out, as of yet.
But the prices that NADA suggest, do not include this factory-foul up.
This car may be worth a whole lot more than almost a 1/2 million!
Bobby H: Great story and that may be the only one left with the column shifter. I remember they used Hurst shifters and you could power shift them and get a wheel every time. You or someone is sitting on a gold mine, prolly.
My dad had the ugliest brown 1973 Buick Skylark for years. He finallly got a new truck after the floorboard got a hole in it. He said he felt like the Flinstones on his way to work. LOL
Yeah, we (my father, James & I) were figuring what are the odds of someone having a 396SS in ‘69, and not having motor problems since then, or wrecking it.

It would nolie. About 1500 to get it from the west coast. Getting it to LA from Atlanta is the problem. Drive it, maybe. Have it trucked is pricey and a bit risky.

Used to trade my 81 Scirocco with a friend of mine with a 68 Camaro SS occasionally.
So stupid fast it was hard to make go straight which was not made easier by the 40 turn lock to lock steering or the stupid 4 wheel drum brakes.
Linkage was broken. If you missed a shift you had to pull over and reattach the shifter or something underneath the car. Good times.

It’s easy to see I’m not on steroids. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been weak with my “s’s” !

It would nolie. About 1500 to get it from the west coast. Getting it to LA from Atlanta is the problem. Drive it, maybe. Have it trucked is pricey and a bit risky.

Where’s VJ and Cab? — kenhotlanta
I’ve seen VJ this late, but not too often. Extremely rare to see cab here at this time. They pack it in early in that little hick-town they live in. Nothing to do, I guess.
