Braves third baseman Chipper Jones with the whitetail deer he got while filming an episode of Major League Bowhunter.
While Chipper Jones is at the All-Star Game in Kansas City next week, fans can also get a glimpse of what the Braves third baseman did last offseason. Jones will be featured on the outdoor program ‘Major League Bowhunter.’
The show, to air Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. on the Sportsman Channel, documents Jones on a deer hunting trip in October near the Beaver River in northwest Oklahoma. He joined co-hosts Jeff Danker and Matt Duff on the trip in search for whitetail deer.
Jones took a large 185-pound buck he nicknamed ‘splitter’ for the way the deer’s antlers split.
“After going back and forth with ‘splitter’ he finally came back into range and I didn’t miss this golden opportunity,” Jones said.

This is a horrific act, killing animals for the sport of it and with a bow which leads to a slower death if not hit directly in a vital organ area. You people scorn VIck for his actions but you applaud Chipper on this crap….just insane and depends on whos doing the evil deed .

Chipper put on Bryce Howard face paint, and as the deer approached who he thought was Bryce Howard for an autograph, Mr. Jones bagged him.

The Truth,
Chipper is a part of a team that produces hunting shows. He is an excellent hunter…especially with a bow…and is also an extremely ETHICAL hunter who actually eats what he harvests.
Your comment is completely uneducated. The comparison of a deer hunter to one who operated a dog-fighting ring is so far beyond ignorant that it blows my mind.
The next time you sit down and eat a steak, or burger, or chicken, or fish, think about how it got to your plate.

Congrats Chipper on a nice 12 pointer. The deer looks to be a younger one, which should be good eating. It takes alot of skill to hunt with a bow, with or without a fence. Enjoyed Chipper playing for the Braves, enjoying his final season and look forward to seeing him on hunting shows after this coming October. Class act all the way round.

Most hunters have the utmost respect for nature. I would bet that Chipper is in that group. Killing an animal happens on a mass scale every day, but people are so removed from the killing process they only see “burgers, chicken nuggets, etc.” I know vegetarians that wear leather products. Last time I checked, a cow needs to be slaughtered before the hide becomes leather.

As long as he barbeques the meat, I have no problems.
Or he could FedEx me 20 to 30 pounds of the meat; I can make use of it.

new suggestion…have Havana Fats run Ted Nugent out to replace Damn Smugglan at 2nd. Ted & Chip shoot crowbows into visitor dugout top of each inning!

Nice deer chip! It would be a real trophy if you didn’t kill splitter in a fence.

Why do some of you think this was an enclosed hunt? Did I miss something that stated that was the case? The enclosures I’ve seen are generally several hundred to thousands of acres. Heck I would wager that it would be equally difficult to kill a deer with a bow with or without the fence.

Although I do eat meat….I still don’t understand how some people enjoy killing animals. It’s seems like something that would be done reluctantly.

I wonder what his splits are with the bow, right handed and left handed? How many deer did Eddie Murray kill in his career and is Chipper far behind? We could have a lot of fu with this…..

I am stunned, and wish to organize a support group for all the mastadons killed during the ice age by thoughtless redneck neanderthals looking for cave trophies. We need to organize doofus’s everywhere and demand that the North American Mastadon Murderers Association apologize to all the descendents of murdered mastadon survivors … what was that?
Oh, nevermind. Let’s see, I had a life around here somewhere …
