Has anyone confirmed that $20 million per is Greinke’s asking price?

Why would he take less than Cain? They’re comparable, in the marketplace, anyhow.

This. He doesn’t want a big-market team, and is said to like the Braves… who says he won’t take less, like 13-15 mil?

It sickens me that here we are again talking about next year. Why not do something about THIS YEAR? Start with firing Fredi and I would even settle for TP taking over in 2012. See if he fires up the team or more of the same. Anything right now. This team has talent. Just horrible leadership.

I’ll wager a large fraction of my personal wealth that Greinke is not going to sign some 4 and 60 deal. His agent, his family, and various passers-by would have him committed before he could affix name to page.

Anyone know what the guy who walked in the trees and blew smoke out of his ears name was?

Dan Uggla? Isn’t that the only thing you blog about?

This is a good point. $20 million per are big market dollars. I’ve read and heard all along that Greinke has no intention of going to NYC, L.A., or Philly (if the Phils were inclined to spend).

If Greinke wants a midsize market, he’d have to have fairly realistic expectations for a contract, no?

If the Braves have a payroll of $80mil next season (based on Shaun’s link above, picking up McCann’s and Hudson’s options and keeping all arbitration-eligible players), then how the heck are they going to upgrade any positions, let alone getting a guy like Greinke?

That’s $80mil without a CF or a LF/3B. With Beachy on the DL 3/4 of the year. And a rotation of Hudson, Hanson, JJ, Minor, Delgado.

I wonder if any players will fall for the video game trick of signing a guy to a 20 year, $500k contract.

Perhaps the posts that make your head spin around like Linda Blair in the Exorcist, are the ones where people post their imaginary lineups that would be winners, and fill them with people who are already wearing Braves uniforms and not producing! lol

great point cricket – I think if the Braves could get Greinke for $17-18 million and LIberty agreed to increase the payroll to $95-100 million then it would be reasonable.

Transplant — Let’s see if I have this straight. Next year, you think that adding Grienke at about 20% of our payroll would be an upgrade if we had Davis and Cunningham – two entirely unproven AA players or Davis and Pagan, who will cost about 6-7 Mil, as two thirds of our outfield?

ive always liked liriano. but blogmeister is right sometime its time to tune up the old run scoring machine

[...] • Braves: “No one realistically expects [Ben] Sheets, who’ll be 34 this month, to be the overpowering game-changing type of pitcher he was in his Milwaukee heyday.” – “Braves are trying to fix pitching, but what of the offense?” – David O’Brie… [...]
