Honestly, I hope we toss Fredi. The dude is even less agressive than Bobby Cox. No hit and runs, no arguing with the umps to protect your players. I think Fredi has a bad feel for the game really. Doesn’t take pitchers out when he needs to (like tonight), other times takes them out too early after giving up a baserunner in a game they’re dominating. Not bunting tying runners over in a 1-run game in the 9th inning. Overall, bad managerial decisions as of late. I’m down try TP for the rest of the season. He’s an old-school type of guy, bunting, taking pitches, moving runners. That’s what this team needs right now.
On a side note I finally killed the fly that’s been buzzing around my apartment all night. I was 0-10 and finally made a connection, and people are complaining the Braves are bad glad I’m not on their roster. Lightenin’ the mood….
I bet he points to his bad start today as evidence, but then, you could counter with the Braves putting up 7 on Halladay as a counter that that argument is ridiculous
I am still of the opinion that too many of you view baseball like it’s football and take individual losses wayyy to hard.
Nick B — One thing you have to take into account is that your typical Braves fan comes from all areas of the country and in the ATL area, there are some transplants from other cities who have adopted the Braves as their favorite team.
Where I grew up, calling guys bums after a loss, Booing, venting and saying exactly how you feel is how I became a fan, I look at blasting the Braves after a bad loss as a way of “Telling them Off”.
I do not believe in the Southern Gentlemenly way of just accepting it as it is after a loss. I believe in gettimg mad as hell about it.
So, the fan base is going to react in different ways, some of it is the culture of where you grew up.
Personaly I am a Dirt Dog kind of fan and if I do not like something I believe in expressing how you really feel. No feelings spared.
If some want to call the bitching well, so be it. I would rather bitch than smile about indifferent ownership and underachieving players.
We have been seeing some bad Braves baseball as of late. I am mad as hell about the way the Braves are playing as of late and this is a fourm to just “Tell em Off and Give em Hell.”
Of course that is as far as I hope that any fan would take it. All it is is words, hope they do better tommorrow.
5-5 homestand a pipedream now. Braves will end up 4-6. What a total joke of a franchise.
Fire Fredi. Sell at the deadline. Rebuild. Forget Greinke. Forget trying to make a run at an opportunity to lose a one-game playoff.
Time to move away from AFS baseball in Atlanta (Always Falling Short). Old #10 is the last carryover from that group of paper champions. Once he’s done and some new blood is in here, maybe the Braves will be relevant again. But the 2012 Braves have no heart, no leadership and absolutely no place in conversations about contention in the NL.
Greinke is risky. He is not unlike a guy with arm problems, Greinke had head problems. Not being mean, just looking at it from a personnel standpoint. If Greinke stays on track, that’s great. On the other hand, he may just be a chemical imbalance away from becoming a spectator.
part of a manager/coach’s responsibilities include puttng the players in situations to succeed. 6 strong innings in this heat and humidity is a lot for any player. Someone should have been ready to start the 7th and at the first sign of trouble/tiring Hanson should have been pulling to a standing ovation for his strong effort.
@Stizz — So far the impression of Ferry is good but lets see what he can do with the salary relief in a yr or two.
Billy Knight had salary relief and really did not do a heck of alot with it. Well, he did overpay for Joe Johnson, that is what got the JJ era started. The Leveinson/Gearon group overpaid for him not once but twice.
The easiest stap is to get rid of people. Billy Knight did that when he first came on board. Its what you do afterward.
Nontheless, I do think Ferry is on the right track. This is a great NBA city. The TV rating say it. ATL will support good NBA basketball, but there was a disaconnect with this Hawks team.
ATL did not like this Hawks team in spite of them being pretty good.
I was around during the Dominique era……The Hawks owned ATL at the time. Too bad we did not build around him and we stayed too long with Fratello as coach in my opinion.
And Fredi handles the press delightfully….so adept at redundant rubbish. With a mic pointed his way in the aftermath of a mediocre effort; he only point his index finger at one viable thing–his nostril and the contents therein–quite an aggressive mover and shaker he is!
“Hope Bourn gets the last spot and does well. Then shop him hard for best available players.”
I’d rather Bourn be back for another five yrs. You are not getting much for him as a rental.
You will not get much of a trade unless the other team signs him. The Braves would be better off taking back draft picks than borderline prospects or a marginal MLB player or two like we got for the second Texiera deal.
this team has consistently underperfomed and people continue to have career worst slumps – Prado and Heyward last year. McCann and Uggla this year along with the first part of the year last year for Uggla. The two consistent things about this team lately is a lack of fire and lack of consistent play.
I know these guys are professionals and men but that still falls on the manager. Why else do so many teams go from a fiery guy to a players coach to a fiery guy based on what the team needs? What Fredi is giving this team is not workin chemistry or effort wise in the clubhouse. His game management skills are debatable at best – not simply on this blog but by baseball “experts” on ESPN (what was Fredi’s WAR?).
This team needs a shake up at some level – either via trade, firing the manager, or both. Even if the players take responsibility for the manager getting fired, the move will hopefully light a fire where the sun don’t shine
“I felt real good with my stuff. I was throwing strikes and getting ahead of guys, keeping my pitch count low. It just didn’t go well in that last inning. But, I’m from California, why should I care?”
They’re getting Greinke. I have been saying that for a few days now. It makes too much sense and really, more for next season and the future. I don’t think we do much this year, but he’s there now and who knows, maybe they win in spite of that moron Fredi. Doubt it though.
If anything Greinke’s head issue keeps his contract slightly below market value. It will keep him out of the high profile and big money markets.

Venice just couldn’t wait to come on here and find a blogger to bash on. You sir are so very interesting and insightful. Actually, you are worse than a Mitchell who at least comes on and speaks of the team in obsession. You are obsessed with bashing other Braves fans comments.
The biggest reason I say that is because he is already 30. There aren’y many good leadoff guys up there right now and that will drive up Bourns price and the length of the deal. I don’t think the Braves and their spending will be serious players. Plus, I just don’t think it’ll be good for whoever gets him in a long term deal because he is a speed guy that will start slowing soon.
McDowell is clearly the worst pitching coach in braves history. Seven years of misery for the fans.O”What the hell” Criticize Fredi and let Roger slide,
I don’t think so Disgusted. Greinke was pretty clear during the trade from KC that he wanted no part of NY. I think more pitchers/players will see what happened to Burnett in NY for example. I think Greinke is conscious enough of his issues he knows he needs to be a good environment even if that costs him a couple million per year. The Yankees will also be a little more hesitant in this situation.
I would be more worried about Texas than the Yankees in regards to Greinke
Hi, my name is Venice Jim. I am scouting DOB’s blog for nasty Braves fans. I am so smart and better than those low life’s because I am cool, calm and collected with MY posts. Ha, one day maybe those morons will learn to be a conservative, better fan and also learn to constantly harrass others like myself.
Venice just couldn’t wait to come on here and find a blogger to bash on. You sir are so very interesting and insightful. Actually, you are worse than a Mitchell who at least comes on and speaks of the team in obsession. You are obsessed with bashing other Braves fans comments.
———————————–
yeah he is my fu*&kin hero
TnBrian – wow – you branded all Californians in a highly negative manner. I apologize if I am offended when someone demeans the person I have chosen to spend my life with in such a pejorative manner. I was not commenting on the negative fans in any way – you do that often yourself (in your amazingly schizophrenic way). But, feel free to make fun of me personally and show how clever you are…I never addressed you personally, so no one would know what a completely offensive thing you had done without calling attention to yourself. Well played, indeed,…
Jim, my wife is from ARZ. She talks and acts way different than myself. I married her.
You got offended because I said TH was a Cali, too cool for you dude. Well, isn’t he? You like his smugness in interviews to reporters? He thinks he’s better than what he is or something. Somebody mentioned earlier he seems the type content with mediocrity. I agree. Or he comes off this way.
No offense, DOB, but why would we want to read about these clowns or hear what they have to say? — ncbravesfan
Because you’re a fan of the team? I don’t know. Is this a trick question?
Anyway, no offense taken. None whatsoever. You read the quotes or you don’t. I found out the last time I stopped posting them that a whole lot more fans, particularly on Twitter, wanted them than those on this blog who don’t. So we’ll post ‘em. Really, it’s easy to skip the quotes if you don’t want to read them.
Well, Best move, getting RID of Chicken wren and “freddi”, They STINK.
They are proving everyday they know NOTHING about professional baseball, They are OUTCLASSED at every turn. They need to go and by doing so, the team will improve…
They are LOSERS !
I didn’t realize thanking someone for their work was considered “brown nosing” I do appreciate what DOB and Carroll do, and I have no problem thanking them for it.
Thank you for the quotes on a nightly basis. Know the Braves are struggling here lately but its still nice to read what the players and manager has to say on a nightly basis regarding the game. So this ncbravesfan90 likes reading the quotes.
Fredi would’ve been run out of NY or Boston by now. Particularly that Yankee team in NY. Heck, maybe even a half dozen other clubs would’ve canned this imbecile by this date. Who knows though. I feel pretty strong in my own opinion though.
I will go on record that the Braves miss the playoffs again and won’t get a No.1 starter or a No.2 starter, they will go for window dressing pitchers like Liriano who might help, but not enough to make the playoffs. The only thing for the Braves organization to do, is to trade Uggla and Bourn and get some young position players to fill the outfield holes. McCann would be OK to trade if some team gave the right pieces, but that is unlikely to happen with the season he has had.
I would be OK with trading Tommy Hanson as well with the right return of players. Let’s face it: Hanson is a shadow of the pitcher that we thought he was when he first came up to the bigs. He threw 95 mph, had that nice curveball, slider and changeup. Now he throws his fastball in the 89 -90 range ,at best and it is straight and gets hit easily and often. He is still a good 4th or 5th starter, but only if you have a No.1, No.2 No.3 starters( Hudson is a good No.4)
The Braves have a great core of hitters in Heyward, Freeman, Prado, Simmons, and I still have faith in McCann to bounce back(He does have a great track record). But, Bourn would and Uggla does take too much of the modest payroll to allow for the most important part: a great rotation.
The Braves must look around at the Phillies and Giants. Yes ,the Phillies had the hitting as well , but the World Series they won was due to the pitching.
The Giants World Series win was almost totally pitching with timely hitting and good professional at bats that fueled that Championship.
The future course of the Braves can be changed, IF the people in charge do the right thing: Trade Uggla and Bourn (and possibly Hanson) get some young talented outfielders and a young 3rd baseman or 2nd baseman.
Then, go hard after Grienke, Hamels, Edwin Jackson, Brandon McCarthy: pitchers under 30 years old who are at their peak and likely to hold their value for 5 years.
Well, Best move, getting RID of Chicken wren and “freddi”, They STINK.
This unfortunate circumstance had been entirely orchestrated by Bobby Cox to put Robert’s theory, that you could pull a name out of a phonebook and they could manage the team to ten more wins, to rest forever.
I didn’t realize thanking someone for their work was considered “brown nosing” I do appreciate what DOB and Carroll do, and I have no problem thanking them for it. — cabravesfan

Plus, it’s not even part of what they get paid for – they do that for the blog, for us.
Talk about being ungrateful…
I watched them tear a building down;
A gang of men in a busy town.
With a mighty heave and lusty yell,
They swung a beam and a side wall fell.
I said to the foremen, “Are these men as skilled
As the men you’d hire if you had to build?”
He gave a laugh and said, “No indeed!
Just a common laborer is all I need.
And I can wreck in a day of two
What it took the builder a year to do.”
And I thought to myself as I went my way,
“Just which of these roles have I tried to play?
Am I a builder who works with skill and care
Building others up by the rule and square,
Or am I a wrecker as I walk the town
Content with the labor of tearing down?”
Anyone remember the days when if we were 3 games over .500 we’d throw the manager a parade?
The last 2 years Braves are what — 19 games OVER — and it has always felt like an 85-90 loss culture the entire time.
Tonight, Braves went right back to Gonzalez baseball — try to hit the ball 500 feet over the foul poles. No moving runners, no creativity, no nothing against a highly inferior opponent. This guy is holding talented players back, and upper management just lets it happen.
We’re now in the “joke” phase of this era of Braves baseball. Tough to watch.
Tonight, Braves went right back to Gonzalez baseball — try to hit the ball 500 feet over the foul poles. No moving runners, no creativity, no nothing against a highly inferior opponent. — The A Bomb
Moving runners etc.?!? The Braves had 6 hits & 1 walk… 7 baserunners, and 2 of those were erased in double plays. I think tonight’s problem lied elsewhere…
How about squeezing with Bourn? How about laying down a few to neutralize some of the breaking balls?
Yeah he stole with Simmons, but sometimes you have to get a little more desperate when the usual swing-from-your-ass-and-come-up-empty philosophy doesn’t result in anything but the ol’ Gonzalez Gooseggs.
DOB has gotten many, many thank you’s from me by all his extra stuff he does especially for the fans. I don’t care if he gets paid to do what he does or not, he goes way out for the fans. I appreciate the man.
I thought I had something wrong with my computer. It turns out google is down. I’ve been using it so exclusively, it took me a few minutes to think of another search engine.
DOB – I think its obvious to anyone watching this team that their talent far exceeds the level at which they are playing. Ever since last september they have been exremely inconsistent, lack basic fundamentals(such as getting a leadoff double and then not being able to advance him to third in a close game), and just don’t seem mentally prepared or up to games that they need to win. To me, this team needs better leadership and someone who can light a fire in their pants and motivate them to play at a higher level. With Fredi there is no sense of urgency and he is always so optimistic that it comes across as fake and not being realistic. Are you hearing anything within the organization of Fredi being in danger if they don’t turn things around?

Ah, one more thing…
Seems to me Bowman’s being a little dramatic right here, talking about how well BMac did through his first 91 games of last year:
…Then McCann suffered the oblique strain that completely altered the direction of his career.
Seriously? A little early to be making THAT claim. It altered his season for sure, but career? I don’t know about that…

Plus, I just don’t think it’ll be good for whoever gets him in a long term deal because he is a speed guy that will start slowing soon.

DOWN ON THE FARM
DANVILLE is waxed tonight by the ROYALS 13-5. Enough offense to win, but five errors and stinky starting pitching will do nicely for the monday blues.
RHSP RAFA BRICENO [L 1-1, 9.45 ERA] 2.0 IP, 8 H, 1 HR, 6 R/ER, 1 BB, 1 SO. SUX!
RHRP WILLIAMS PEREZ [3.00 ERA] 3.0 IP, 1 H, zeros, 1 BB, 5 SO.
Outstanding middle-relief work.
RHRP CHARLIE ROBERTSON [3.38 ERA] 1.1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO.

I watched them tear a building down;
A gang of men in a busy town.
