Its no secret that I’m no supporter of Uggla as a player the last year and a half in Atlanta. However, I think form what I have observed, that he is a good teammate and I know he always hustles. I’ve never heard him say anyhting but positive things about his team in interviews.
As for the All-Star selection I’ll be interested to hear what his comments are about it. If I am right, I bet that he says he appreciates the fans votes but that others are at least as or more deserving.

1. The Braves do have an All-Star middle infielder. But it sure as hell isn’t Uggla. Andrelton Simmons is the man.
2. Has anyone in MLB stranded more baserunners than Uggla? If so,it’s gotta be a short list. Evidently, his 43 RBI made a big deal with All Star voters as a 2nd baseman. That’s BS. With .300 hitters like Prado and Bourn always on base, if he could make contact at all, he’d have 70 RBI by now.
3. Again, it has been proven that LIberty Media does not own the Atlanta Braves. The Washington Nationals own the Atlanta Braves.
4. As long as Venters, Diaz, Francisco, Wilson, Uggla, and Hinske continue to perform at a minor-league level, this team cannot be taken seriously as a playoff contender. Especially with the Frediot at the helm. It’s hard to compete with Davey Johnson and a roster full of actual major leaguers.

Chipper on the team: We have the ability to play brilliantly. We also have the ability to bring out our inner Bad News Bears at times. It’s frustrating, but when you’ve got some young guys they’re going to make young mistakes. But we have a chance to really end the homestand against a team that we, on paper, should beat. So let’s just take care of business, and go to Philly and into the All-Star break on a good note.”

The Braves can not afford to send Venters to AAA to work on whatever the issues are, because they do not have anyone else to bring up.
As it is now, the pen is very shakey, so they can’t add more questionalble arms.

You are correct I’m afraid. We’ll never see the Venters from early last year due to overuse. The players union does a lot of stupid stuff in my opinion but they should stand up for these young guys who get abused somehow. Venters was really good and now he’ll never get a big payday like he could have.

And again – if you had read more carefully, what I was saying was that Hudson might be extended, but as a lower rotation pitcher. Hanson is good enough to be a number one and with Vizcaino and Beachy coming back, along with Delgado and Teheran, we will have an effective pitching staff without spending money we obviously won’t have after extending some players and paying arb to others and locking several up when the time comes over the next couple of years.
Dealing because you’re upset like many fans here is a really stupid way to run a ball club.

The young starting pitchers have, at times, especially recently, been tanking the team. Dan was carrying the team at times earlier this season, and it’s not Chipper’s flippin’ fault he got whacked by that ball in Tampa (and yes he had a misplay recently because of that, and that should have stayed an error!), and I know BMac has had an off-season. I did not read Chipper’s comment as throwing the young guys under the bus, at all.

CTB – Yopu have to have a longer view like WRen. Why do you think he’s refused to part with all the young pitching prospects, even knowing that they’d have to take their respective lumps? It’ s because top pitchers like Cain and others are receiving $20 mil per year deals and the Braves can’t afford to pay that kind of money when their salary level is pre-ordained to remain the same (yes, it DOES suck, but that’s the way it is).
By letting the Kids develop along with position players like Freeman, Simmons and Heyward, they can put together a good team for quite a few years. Maybe all the Kids won’t work out as they hope – happened many times before in all organizations – but you have to let them pitch.
I know many here wanted someone like Garza or Grienke, but honestly, Garza is basically a Number Three starter and we have a couple of those and Grienke, though he will claim Ace money, is still a 3.75 ERA career pitcher with only one really good season to his credit. He won’t be worth giving up one of the pitchers it would cost to get him and we can’t afford his contraxct going forward.

The braves have managed to play their worst baseball against the Nats. I want to give the Nats credit, they are a good team and have assembled quite the pitching staff but i’d be lying if I said the braves haven’t contributed to their win total in head to head matches. Errors, poor at-bats, and not so great starts by starters. Hudson has to do better, Minor was ok, and Delgado got done in by his defense. We’re playing the way people thought the Nats would, like a young team with room to grow while they are playing like a more veteran team, at least so far. Taking nothing away from the Nats because they are good, but this braves team should be playing better than this. The difference in these last 3 losses is not just lack of hitting with risp(although that would help big time) but lack of playing fundamental baseball. Have to play better at home and get back on track with the Cubs.

Keep in mind a lot of thos wins were as a result of a potent Brwers’ offense – not becuase Grienke pitched that well.
We are not going to be able to afford a $15-20illion price tag and that’s what it will take. AS a rental, it wont be worth the price and long term we can’t afford him.

I think the Braves will be lucky to split the series with the Cubs. Samardzija having a pretty good season, game 3 has lefty soft-tosser Malholm and we all know how the Braves do against that type of pitcher.
No offense to Venters, but right now he should not be brought into any close game right now. Either ship him off to AAA to right the ship or just let him throw mop up duty.
This team is a decent team. Not a WS winner imo, but they could be a WC playoff team.

The Nats have an obvious edge over us in pitching, bullpen and starting, they are playing very solid baseball. I actually feel like our vets are letting us down more than our young guys with a few exceptions. Heyward is fighting his way back nicely while Freeman has had some injury setbacks, and since Simmons has been largely good. Minor is a disappointment but Delgado after a rough April has only really had one bad start and that was in Boston. The more established players not quite doing the job right now.
