Signing Ben Sheets will not stop the Braves from going after another starter. He is a very low risk, high potential reward signing. They can still get a front line starter

Will agree that OBP is a most important stat. Clutch avg, i.e. with men in scoring postion and team within two runs, is also a telling stat.

Phillies are said to be asking around about interest in Hamels, but the price is looking like 4-5 prospects, including probably 2 high level ones…

@CAB –

They can ask for that but only way they get close to that is if the other team signs him in the 72 hour period.

It would be a big news in the NL East but will not say its a shocker given the season the Phillies are having.

The Braves not only need another starting pitcher or two, they need a stronger bench and better arms in the bullpen. Folks this isn’t going to be solved overnight and if they manage to squeak into the postseason it will border on a miracle.

Fair enough, NickB.

Those shocking Braves’ home numbers I mentioned earlier…

1-5: Braves’ 2012 record at home versus first-place Washington

1-8: Braves’ record versus first-place NL East at Turner Field teams dating back to last season’s three-game finale with the Phillies

5-15: Braves’ postseason record at home since defeating the Mets in the 1999 NLCS

0-3: Braves’ all-time record at Turner Field in series-deciding games

0-8: Braves’ record in postseason games at Turner Field when facing elimination

18-28: Braves’ home record versus the Phillies since 2007 (the first year of their division title streak)

2-11:  Braves’ all-time Turner Field record versus the Yankees (including 1999 World Series)

Maybe if blew up the park a lot of our problems would magically go away.

Nick B — If a player can put up the production like the 10 players on that list of strikeouts leaders, then of course, strikeouts do not matter.

I will go on the rest of my life saying that HRS, RBIs and Doubles do matter. Always will. That group fares well in those stats.

I think that doubles are underrated. I’d rather have a big double guy than a player that pads his OPB with a bunch of walks. What good are runners left on base.

And stolen bases not mattering never makes sense. If a guy steals with less than 2 outs, you have two chances to score. I’ll take that chance.

Chipper doesn’t deserve to go to the All Star Game any more than Dan Uggla does.

That just tells you all you need to know about him at this point in his career.

Whereas Derek Jeter is still a highly productive player at age 38, Chipper is just a figurehead.

It would be sad to see him get in after the fact because of the player he was ten years ago.

I watch this guy choke away big games left and right and most fans still see him as a real “stopper”. No he ain’t. Not anymore and it is time Wren realizes this and quit depending on retreads like Sheets.

Phillies now 13 games back in the loss column in the NL East race. They finish the 1st half of the 2012 schedule 36-45.

Phillies would have to go 54-27 in the 2nd half of the season to finish with 90 wins.

Idiots bashing the offense should smack themselves in the face real hard. Offense, other than that awful bench, is better than good. They grind pitchers away and have improved drastically from just a year ago doing the small ball, basic things to score runs.

What a disappointing outing from Huddy. I believe he was ahead with 2 strikes on a couple of their hitters in the 1st inning and grooved 2-fat pitches. It was a big game, 2 game swing. FF made it respectable for awhile. I always felt like Bourn’s defense was suspect, don’t really care if stats say different, he does not go back on balls well and now 2 games in a row he’s misjudged liners. I thought he could of had that ball off the wall early (I think Ankiel runs that one down). But I do love his offense. Seen more missed plays this year and last from him, than Andrew or Grissom ever missed in their whole careers here.
