only the good die young
Signing Ben Sheets will not stop the Braves from going after another starter. He is a very low risk, high potential reward signing. They can still get a front line starter
July 1st, 20124:39 pm
looks to easy.
Will agree that OBP is a most important stat. Clutch avg, i.e. with men in scoring postion and team within two runs, is also a telling stat.
Ok let’s cut to the chase Clippards! $9.95…Great Clippards!
The entire NL All-Star roster should be the Braves roster.
These guys are the best of the best!
July 1st, 20124:40 pm
Congrats to you. hat was spoken like a true idiot that grows the biggest nads while sitting behind his keyboard. You are someone I’d really like to meet….please! Maybe we could go play in traffic instead of my kids, who are all grown btw. You are such a piece of shyt. Anyone who would take talking about baseball and turn it into a personal issue is the lowest sumb!tch. You are a weak patchetic ass.
Weak ending…. Nats win again. Damn, they’re good. They Can’t keep this up all year though.
Braves home record and NL east record fall again. Below .500 in both. Not good.
Phillies are said to be asking around about interest in Hamels, but the price is looking like 4-5 prospects, including probably 2 high level ones…
They can ask for that but only way they get close to that is if the other team signs him in the 72 hour period.
It would be a big news in the NL East but will not say its a shocker given the season the Phillies are having.
At least Heyward hit the ball hard. This crap has to stop. The Braves are unable to afford dropping so many series to teams from the National League East.
The Braves not only need another starting pitcher or two, they need a stronger bench and better arms in the bullpen. Folks this isn’t going to be solved overnight and if they manage to squeak into the postseason it will border on a miracle.

Out before this place turns nasty.
Venters is getting paid to pitch… having him continually ride the pine in the Bullpen doesn’t help anything either.
tomahawkin meant “bro” in the generic sense that DOB meant it in his blog headline. But if you had been around the blog for a while, you would know that.
Jaded Braves Fan
Fair enough, NickB.
Those shocking Braves’ home numbers I mentioned earlier…
1-5: Braves’ 2012 record at home versus first-place Washington
1-8: Braves’ record versus first-place NL East at Turner Field teams dating back to last season’s three-game finale with the Phillies
5-15: Braves’ postseason record at home since defeating the Mets in the 1999 NLCS
0-3: Braves’ all-time record at Turner Field in series-deciding games
0-8: Braves’ record in postseason games at Turner Field when facing elimination
18-28: Braves’ home record versus the Phillies since 2007 (the first year of their division title streak)
2-11: Braves’ all-time Turner Field record versus the Yankees (including 1999 World Series)
Maybe if blew up the park a lot of our problems would magically go away.
July 1st, 20124:42 pm
Hey just send the Braves starters to the All-Star game; and make certain you do it on Sunday!!!!
I agree. I think they’ll make one of the two WC spots, which is really all that matters; who knows, they could turn into the NY Giants of MLB. LOL
Its games like this that get me frustrated to the point where its tempting to give up on Johnny Venterbumb.
How much more of this crap has to go on before the change of scenery is needed.
The arm seems to be there, but come on how much more of this do you put up with.
you think they will get two starters? I kinda doubt that will happen, especially since Wren seems to think Sheets will be in the rotation soon. but yaneverknow….
July 1st, 20124:43 pm
Next up the worst team in the Majors, no doubt the Braves still make it a very interesting series
In this series vs Nats, we beat the righthander and lost to the two lefthanders—–What does that tell you?
July 1st, 2012
I Cant stand the Overrated Jeff Samantha of The Cubs! BSPN used to s.ck him off hardcore because he went to Notre Dame.
U mad bro? You sound jelly….
July 1st, 20124:44 pm
I just think there’s not enough teams that consider themselves “sellers” to provide the Braves with a lot of choices on who they can go after.
Jay you may be right but I hope they make a move.
Nickb..you must over look some people. Its just a game.
But you know some people on here believe they know everything.
yes , their terrible performance in crucial home games is troubling….
July 1st, 20124:45 pm
How embarrassing that Braves have to hope a pitcher coming out of retirement can help them….Diaz Hinske Wilson Francisco horrible off the bench….go with Ross next year until Bethancourt is ready and dump tired McCann although he is a “nice guy”…. Sign Bourn
If Uggla is an allstar then Venters should be to.Dont have to worry Freddi will never manage an allstar game. Teams have a better chance of winning a WS with new managers than keeping someone long like Cox Leyland or someone like Baker
Signing Ben Sheets will not stop the Braves from going after another starter. He is a very low risk, high potential reward signing. They can still get a front line starter
And cheaper than Oswalt!
Sheets replaces Minor, another pitcher replaces Delgado or JJ (or Sheets if it goes wrong). Might be looking for a 4/5 starter if the Braves are really impressed with Sheets. Liriano or Vargas I’d guess.
July 1st, 20124:46 pm
yer not a real person, you live in interweb land
2, you don’t want to meet me i person. I’m large, ex-military and have a terrible temper, not acting like an internet badass, but it’s true… i’m probably going to end up in prison as I have a mild form of Asperger’s and my friends have done a good job of keeping me from killing somebody…..
it sucks, and I deal with it the best i can
July 1st, 20124:47 pm
QUESTION OF THE 1ST HALF???
Why is it that when our starting pitchers get run support they pitch like dogcrap???
Come On Man Funk That
Am I the Only one who thinks our starting rotation so far is Overrated???
Throw me in the pool of fans on here who were drinking the Kool Aid and wearing the rose colored glasses in sayting that we have one of the deepest rotations in the game when the Season started…I will Admit I was pretty boy flexin abt our rotation…
DAmn, not even 20,000 at the game?
July 1st, 20124:48 pm
You are on my prayer list buddy.
Nick B — If a player can put up the production like the 10 players on that list of strikeouts leaders, then of course, strikeouts do not matter.
I will go on the rest of my life saying that HRS, RBIs and Doubles do matter. Always will. That group fares well in those stats.
I think that doubles are underrated. I’d rather have a big double guy than a player that pads his OPB with a bunch of walks. What good are runners left on base.
And stolen bases not mattering never makes sense. If a guy steals with less than 2 outs, you have two chances to score. I’ll take that chance.
My son has Aspergers
Chipper doesn’t deserve to go to the All Star Game any more than Dan Uggla does.
That just tells you all you need to know about him at this point in his career.
Whereas Derek Jeter is still a highly productive player at age 38, Chipper is just a figurehead.
It would be sad to see him get in after the fact because of the player he was ten years ago.
Bozo ( The Clown )
nolie is a gigantic douche for that uggla comment earlier.. maybe someone should shoot you u waste of space ## nolieshouldabeenaborted

“Signing Ben Sheets will not stop the Braves from going after another starter. He is a very low risk, high potential reward signing. They can still get a front line starter”
poor troops..have to serve over seas in a meaningless ridiculous war and then come home to the worst punishment of all..having to sit through an entire braves game in 100 degree heat…ouchies
I would be all for blowing up the Ted and building a new , old fashioned park in the middle of downtown somewhere. would probably improve attendance and thus increase payroll,
when I have visited from out of town to see games, I have always thought the nearby area looked a little dodgey
July 1st, 20124:51 pm
Grant Balfour and Brandon McCarthy could fill two glaring holes right now
You know, JBF, you make a good point there.
July 1st, 20124:52 pm
Braves pitchers give up 18 runs in 3 games vs. Nationals. Braves offense puts 15 on the board in 3 games vs. Nationals.
I think it’s pretty clear what the focus should be at the deadline.
How soon can Sheets get here? Huddy spits the bit today in the rubber game! We are next to last in the NL in quality starts- LOOK IT UP MERCY
thanks, I will probably be okay, I’ve made it to nearly 40 without much trouble other than a DUI….
Uggla an all star, what a joke!! Send him and his 225 average back to Miami. He needs to be sitting for a couple of weeks. Why is Gonzales playing this guy?
July 1st, 20124:53 pm
NickB..you also in my prayers.
July 1st, 20124:54 pm
They were talking about all the runs Hudson gives up in the very 1st inning in so many starts the season. OMG, they think this aging feller is going to lead that team into the playoffs, or if they get there, deep in the postseason, then they deserve to be blanked out of October ball anyways.
I watch this guy choke away big games left and right and most fans still see him as a real “stopper”. No he ain’t. Not anymore and it is time Wren realizes this and quit depending on retreads like Sheets.
cole hamels said to be available for four to five prospects… get on it wren
Do you still take medication? Reason I ask is I’m trying to gage and see if my son’s still going to have to take it when he reaches adulthood.
2, you don’t want to meet me i person. I’m large, ex-military and have a terrible temper, not acting like an internet badass, but it’s true… i’m probably going to end up in prison as I have a mild form of Asperger’s and my friends have done a good job of keeping me from killing somebody…..NickB
Okay dumbass, you wanna have a pissing contest, lets go. I too, was a Mp in the military, and I’m a retired firefighter. I am also large at 6′3″ and 250lbs. Wish I was a little smaller, but I get around anyway. You don’t bother me a-hole an if you are unfortunate enough to live anywhere close to driving distance, I would consider it a real pleasure to meet you. I’m not doing anything important right now and the heat doesn’t concern me. Time and place?
July 1st, 20124:55 pm
Phillies now 13 games back in the loss column in the NL East race. They finish the 1st half of the 2012 schedule 36-45.
Phillies would have to go 54-27 in the 2nd half of the season to finish with 90 wins.
Amaro is making the right choice in selling, just not sure he’s going to get what he wants for Hamels, Victorino, etc.
July 1st, 20124:56 pm
Nats highlight that smart managers can win games with younger teams. Davey has a math degree; I doubt Fredi can do long division. Great hire, Frank Wren.
The Ben Sheets signing obviously is a shot in the dark. Maybe he is the pitching equivalent of Troy Glaus – and has one more 10 win season in his arm. But in reality, it is another sign that the Braves have to shop in the dollar store. Very sad, actually.
I am of the belief you NEED a true number 1 to go the distance. Not guys who used to be and you stubbornly refuse to except they are no more.
nolie was kidding. what is your excuse Bozo, other than being a clown??
July 1st, 20124:57 pm
My Ideal Rotation @ (after) Trade Deadline:
Greinke/Hudson/Hanson/Sheets/Jurrjens (either Delgado or Minor to bullpen, whichever one isn’t traded for Greinke)
Likely Rotation @ (after) Trade Deadline:
Hudson/Hanson/Liriano/Sheets/Jurrjens (Minor/Delgado to bullpen)
Boooooooo. Losing at home over and over again to teams you need to beat is beyond old. This team has been disappointing to this point. There are no excuses…..but there sure will be when FG is interviewed.
McFann :Ô: :Ô: :ô:

BravesfaninAugusta go with Ross next year
Dude, Ross is gonna be 36 next year. Didn’t you notice the flecks of grey in his beard?…
If you asked him, he’d say to stick with BMac.
Efrim – who would have thought on Opening Day he would be selling? That’s why the fun part is watching the actual games played and seeing what happens in a season, isn’t it?
never have taken medication, only got diagnosed like two years ago, I’m highly functional as I have friends go out…etc I just have a really hard time with conflict and a really really hard time when people don’t seem to understand things that seem so simple to me. I probably should take meds, but eff that, they are expensive and i don’t have insurance, plus, I don’t like the idea of medication altering my worldview and/or behavior, and I haven’t been in a fight in almost a year!
Hey going to church anybody need prayer?
July 1st, 20124:59 pm
Lmao…Man Dude you sure like to take it to another level!
Jerry and RickB– Thanks for your military service but both need to cool tempers. Its not worth it. peace to you both.
lighten up Francis
July 1st, 20125:00 pm
Braves are 15-21 in their last 36 games since starting the season 26-16 in their first 42 games.
My ideal rotation after trade deadline…Dickey,Price,Verlander,Weaver and Cain….
Yeah, my nephew as he’s about to embark on a journey (might be joining military) and my family as well as we learned my dad’s bro is not in that great of shape right now.
Why is Venters still here? (AAA)
Why is Minor still here? (had one of his best starts only 4 ER in 5 innings)
Why is Wilson still here?
Why is Henske (sp?) still here?
Why is Diaz still here (love that plate discipline)
Why is Fredi still here (”I’ll pitch to Matt Kemp with game on line and first base open”)?
Why do I follow this team each and every day? (good question)
July 1st, 20125:02 pm
Sorry, NickB, I didn’t mean to be presumptuous..
Heck, I’d probably be diagnosed with that stuff if I actually saw a doctor over it. I’m still active duty, and don’t want anything that might disqualify me for military service. Got less than 5 years before I retire….but listening to your struggles, sounds like you and I have a lot in common. LOL. (Except I haven’t been in a fight since I was a kid)
My son’s 13, but his Aspergers makes him mentally more like a 7 year old. He’s a great kid for the most part, gets good grades, but every now and then he’ll launch into one of the biggest tirades you’ve ever seen.
Idiots bashing the offense should smack themselves in the face real hard. Offense, other than that awful bench, is better than good. They grind pitchers away and have improved drastically from just a year ago doing the small ball, basic things to score runs.
Pitching all around is a big problem, especially the starters.
July 1st, 2012
My ideal rotation after trade deadline…Dickey,Price,Verlander,Weaver and Cain….”
July 1st, 20125:03 pm
This pathetic team cant get out of its own way….if we lose 2-3 games to the Cubs we better back that truck up and start unloading…STARTING WITH FATSO GONZALEZ AND FRANK WRECK.
Not necessarily in that order, of course!
Well People…We Should’ve won in late innings friday night, We Beat Strasturd, and In my opinion, today was a winnable game
Its imperatve that we dont make the AAA Iowa Cubs look Playoff caliber and put a Fatality on the Phillies…Gotta go 5-2 this week! No excuses if we go 3-4
thats really something to joke about, shooting someone .. how is that funny… i am tired of seeing uggla getting ripped on when he is arguably and statistically in the top 2 or 3 every year for best national league second basemen. It’s becoming absurd how stupid and annoying the Uggla haters are..most sensible people realize he is going to tear in the second half, like he always does, but yet he still receives an insane amount of bashing.. Someone’s gotta stick up for this guy, may as well be this clown!!
July 1st, 20125:04 pm
I’m very mellow, and then someone will make a comment and boom, I have to lower my blood pressure…. then I’m 5 minutes later back to mellow again…… have you had his IQ tested? he’s probably very high
Or maybe in that order would work well . . . .
July 1st, 20125:05 pm
TB Braves fan..I do serious.Don’t wish to say why right now but will later.
you don’t pay much attention then Bozo, I an always backing Dan as several posts ripped me for today.
July 1st, 20125:06 pm
Co-Sign on that 502 post, I just Had a Semi BF on the starters that I posted on here abt 20 minutes ago, Our rotation is Overrated
I do think people forget how young this team is, and how rare it is for teams this young to even be above .500 much less in the playoff hunt.
no not necessarily in that order MIBF
Hudson,Hanson are inconsistent
minor, Delgado,are consistently BAD
Uggla sucks…and hes going to the Allstar game? PATHETIC!
By the end of July these pathetic ,boring, losers will be last place and Framk Wreck will probably extend Fredidiots contract four more years.
July 1st, 20125:08 pm
And thank you Nick and Jerry , you both make it quite obvious that the military drives 3 outta every 4 to be quite insane at some point later in their lives, ( if not so already ) What is wrong with you two, internet mafioso’s is no way to go about living, you both sound like clowns and thats coming from a clown you 2 should be ashamed…trying to meet up to fight give me a breakkkkkk
Got you buddy. Yall have a good day.
July 1st, 20125:10 pm
Tomahawkin, I asked McFann yesterday if she’d been hanging around you lately with her new found slang.
Anyone at the game today who stayed after the first inning are idiots…like this team was gonna pull a rabbit out of their hats…i wouldnt spend one dollar to see these incompetent losers play baseball…
And the sad thing is u cant trade any of them!
Oh ok well my bad then, glad to know there are still some supporters out there… i don’t pay much attention, mostly due to the fact that i am always having to practice juggling and riding on unicycles, i barely just skim through these pages..
Nolie I didn’t rip you today. What I said was good.
BF Chris27..you got it!
I’m not trying to meet up with anybody, my temper got the best of me for a minute there, nothing to see here, move along, lol
four starting pitchers 25 and under and three 22 year olds starting every day and some of y’all wonder why the inconsistency?
What a disappointing outing from Huddy. I believe he was ahead with 2 strikes on a couple of their hitters in the 1st inning and grooved 2-fat pitches. It was a big game, 2 game swing. FF made it respectable for awhile. I always felt like Bourn’s defense was suspect, don’t really care if stats say different, he does not go back on balls well and now 2 games in a row he’s misjudged liners. I thought he could of had that ball off the wall early (I think Ankiel runs that one down). But I do love his offense. Seen more missed plays this year and last from him, than Andrew or Grissom ever missed in their whole careers here.
July 1st, 20125:11 pm
By the way…micael bourn cant play centerfield for his life…hes constantly misplaying or misjudging flyballs…let him walk outta here
yeah Yogi I know. I was not meaning you or Bill. thank you
Le Fan – nice name. Your post reminds me I’ve never liked the French! (Or would that be La Fan?)
July 1st, 20125:13 pm
I haven’t starting Ripping Uggla yet, but if he doesnt hit against the inner division teams in the 2nd half, I’m gonna join in on Whaling on him
He gets the Haterade poured on him on here because he’s making 15 mill and has been an automatic out the last month
July 1st, 20125:14 pm
And venters is SHOT…THANKS TO FREDIDIOT
and them damn defensive stats claim he is about the best
Lies, dam lies, and statistics……..
July 1st, 20125:15 pm
