At least they are making Gonzalez work, but Uggla’s at bat was awful. They need to start making Gonzalez pay for his struggles.

74 pitches now. Might be gone after five or six if they can keep it up…
Can’t keep defending Uggla. Inexcusable missing pitches right down the middle. It is getting old fast.

Updated Sheets story (with still more to come from Sheets himself)
Same last night. Right down broadway, whiff-UGGS!
I posted this to wrong blog early: Simmons fouled off 8 straight pitches in that 14-pitch walk
uggla don’t even hit here lately.
Uggla definitely needs to make adjustments, but he never does. He swings at every pitch as if it was a damn fastball.
Waffle House or Bust
All my predictions have come true from this series.
1. Fredi changes lineup (all three games) – check!
2. Braves lose two of three (they will lose today) – check!
3. Bloggers claim it is still early in the season. – check!
Can I be manager now?
Five Braves batted in 3rd inning. Four hit the ball hard. Uggla struck out.

Uggla – Our all star.
July 1st, 20122:40 pm
Of course nolie makes a sarcastic joke about Uggla’s struggles. Doesn’t want to look wrong in any way supporting Uggla and then admitting he is really hurting his team missing very hittable pitches.
Simmons needs to teach Danny the way to make a pitcher work.
July 1st, 20122:41 pm
The problem as I see it is before, when the whole lineup was struggling, pitchers were pitching around Uggla so his power wouldnt beat them. Thats why his OBP is so good. But now that the rest of the lineup is heating up, they are going after Uggla as the weakest link.
July 1st, 20122:42 pm
that is called mocking the blog Brian, nothing to do with what you claim. Over a season he is definitely an asset.
July 1st, 20122:43 pm
Uggla is going to be the downfall to the WAR or at least he should be. Uggla is terrible and if WAR says hes good then it is terrible too!
The pitchers have been reaching base in this series far too often. That could turn out to be a huge mistake.
July 1st, 20122:44 pm
Way to pick it, Freddie!
Nice grab, FF.
July 1st, 20122:45 pm
Good play, Freddie!
place is crawling with idjits today, though I suspect that several of our unknown posters are the same idjit….
Hudson being clever not letting Gio sit down
July 1st, 20122:46 pm
They’re all me, nolie
The Braves are just awful to watch. With the signing of Sheets, that means Wren is not trading any young pitchers. What is wrong with Bourn??? He can’t wait until season is over, he will not sign with Braves. If the Braves are way out by end of July, they should think about trading Bourn, Hudson, McCann & JJ. This team is just not built to compete for a division title or wild card.
July 1st, 20122:50 pm
well if thats so Jeffrey, come up with some smarter ones too huh?
That inning could have been better. Hudson has the top of the order due in the 5th. I foresee problems.
July 1st, 20122:51 pm
Those late calls by the HP Ump drive me crazy!
July 1st, 20122:52 pm
If the Braves are way out by end of July, they should think about trading Bourn, Hudson, McCann & JJ
They won’t be way out. No need to consider this.
Trade Uggla NOW, I sure somebody would give us a case of balls for an ALL STAR.
July 1st, 20122:53 pm
Good catch, Chipper!
July 1st, 20122:54 pm
Well, call me an idiot 2 bc I don’t see how anyone can say Dan Uggla is an asset so matter of factly. If Dan Uggla wasn’t playing 2nd base he would just be another player, and the fact that he plays it as bad as anyone else in the majors is what makes his All Star selection kind of a joke.
The A Bomb
July 1st, 20122:55 pm
Uggla talk is ridiculous.
He’s Fredi’s godson and is treated differently. And he’s the type of player that drives the fan base crazy.
He’ll go 1 for 40 followed by a 23 for 40 with 10 homers. I don’t ever remember a more inconsistent player wearing a Braves uniform. But it’s worthless to debate his value because he’s so loved by Godfather Fredi and Uncle Frank. Plus, he hustles and that makes him look “better.”
He HAS played pretty well at 2B, though.
it always amazes me how many folks are willing to look like fools in a public venue. anonymity I guess
I thought Zimmerman had been hurt haha
That is the ballgame folks.
July 1st, 20122:56 pm
Couldn’t have served it up better.
This Nationals lineup is always so dynamic against the Braves. Some people claim that the Nationals offense is a weakness, but they are never weak when facing the Braves.
Dang, Huddy, did you have to give the run back?
July 1st, 20122:57 pm
Man all the hate for Bourn…all you guys must be perfect, never made a mistake at work or life ? should we just call ya’ll God?
Bourn is one of 5 best players on team….Boooed..what kind of fan are you?
Bourn smiling..you don’t know why he was smiling.
God help your wife- kids–hope they don’t ever screw up.
waffle house or bust
I hope your family is eaten by bears
(Rob from SC)
Expected more from Hudson today
July 1st, 20122:58 pm
Why can’t nolie just express his viewpoints instead of trying to intimidate people into silence by taking shots at their intelligence?
July 1st, 20122:59 pm
Its Imperative now that we take 3 out of 4 from the AAA Iowa Cubs, we cant make them look playoff calier like we did when we were in Wrigley. Furthermore we cant overlook them in preparation for the Showdown in Philly
July 1st, 20123:00 pm
eaten by bears
waffle house or bust I hope your family is eaten by bears
Please dont bring back tim Hudson either…..
I don’t see why people are on Uggla!!! He is 2nd on the team with home runs and 1st in RBI’s! Why so much hate???
July 1st, 20123:01 pm
Doesn’t matter of Huddy gives up 2 runs or 20 runs, either way Braves lose.
I would sure like to see an argument why the guy leading in every 2nd base category in the NL except batting avg should not be on the All Star Team because he happens to be slumping now.
If he had slumped for the first 3 weeks of the year and then hit like his first two months for the last 2 months, you’d all be fellating him
July 1st, 20123:03 pm
Uggla has been better than expected at 2nd and much, much worse than expected at the bat. He has limited range however and short arms (!) a lot of balls though. He’s no John Kennedy, as Lloyd Bentsen would say. Not worth the 10m-12m a year clearly, when you compare him to any minor leaguer.
Braves have allowed Gonzalez to settle down. I believe the answer to the trivia question is Ron Gant in 1992.
if the Braves lose this game it will be mainly due to defense, rarely have we been a bad defensive team, but games 1 and 3 have been pretty lousy
5 spot for the Bravos here
NickB – “Because he’s slumping now!” That’s the only argument you should expect from here….
Good point made in that 256 post
Im telling people this team is like a version of the 1994 expos! they give the braves fits. they own us, They are in the Braves heads like Philly was the last 4 years
not really cool using that f-word on a PG blog IMO
Signing Ben Sheets will not stop Wren’s pursuit of an impact starting pitcher, thats for sure.
July 1st, 20123:04 pm
D.O.B liked your story about what Hudson was going to do about his start today with the heat you forgot to mention an early shower.
another anonymous commenter
Blow it out your cornhole, nolie…post something pertinent about the game or the team…or STFU
he was not slumping when he garnered most of his votes, so that makes no sense at all LAG
Uggla’s been slumping badly, but so has Infante (who some say should start ASG and should be here in Atlanta)
BA OBP SLG OPS BAbip
“if the Braves lose this game it will be mainly due to defense, rarely have we been a bad defensive team, but games 1 and 3 have been pretty lousy”
if? IF? Seriously?
ok that’s more like it
July 1st, 20123:05 pm
over his last 3 weeks, btw (for Infante)
damn ,thought Heyward got that one, btw, looks like the kid has turned the corner as he’s hittin lefties like mad lately
right back at you cowardly anonymous commenter
The Braves lack of consistency in their lineup is so maddening. They need to get guys going.
July 1st, 20123:06 pm
This is what I’m talking about. When people bring up Dan Uggla, they never just say..oh what a great player…its always in relation to others at 2nd base. When Chipper was in his prime as The Guy on the team, you just let the stats speak for themselves. It was not always an addendum comparing him to other 3rd basemen.
And I do like some things about Dan Uggla, and would be fine with him as a complementary piece and if he was at another position.
Who is a better 2nd basemen than Uggla??? Uggla deserves to be on the NL team because he is the best in it!
July 1st, 20123:07 pm
nolie is a much better poster than you anonymous commenter
nolie – You know that, I know that, and NickB knows that. And we all agree. But let’s ask some of the others, shall we?
might be because he is a second baseman, and that was what he was elected as? just a thought….
NL allstars should have Wright at third and Phillips at second. Uggla will out two times in that game.
I was about say that I feel Hudson will be unable to pitch past the 6th inning.
Time to get Huddy out.
I’m sick of pointing out the lame arguments and lack of evidence people use to rationalize their misguided Uggla hate, you wanna hate him? Fine, just now that the rest of us think you are an idiot
July 1st, 20123:08 pm
That sigh was the sign language edition of I AM DONE.
Gio could show Strasburg a thing or two about dealing with heat, triple digits and the guy is going out and dealing like it’s just another start
July 1st, 20123:09 pm
“I was about say that I feel Hudson will be unable to pitch past the 6th inning.”
Looks to me like Tim was “unable to pitch” all day today
I’m done with this game! Time to watch Italy vs Spain!!!
Uggla gets the hate because he makes 15 mill
Where is Jerry BTW? LOL
July 1st, 20123:10 pm
Don Sutton- That ball bounces away from McCann…. LOL. Mac is so bad Don calls him out for passed balls
Phillips is having a good year no doubt
Comedy of errors continues.
That was terrific hustle recovery by Freeman to get that out.
The Braves just don’t have the personel to compete with the Nationals right now, that’s harsh, but its very true.
July 1st, 20123:11 pm
Yeah that Hudson sure showed up in a semi big game. Huh, hasn’t he scuffled in big games for us in the recent past? Sure he has. And it wasn’t 110 degrees on the field in those games, so that cant be an excuse.
He is no Smoltz, Glavine or Maddux. I even recall young Avery throwing some good big games for us and he was a bottom rotation guy.
Yeah, keep thinking he fits the bill as your number 1 guy the rest of the season going for a playoff run. You in a damn fantasy play world.
I Just Turned It off!
Why does the Braves defense always suck against the Nationals? My goodness, the Braves are terrible in the National League East. I seriously feel like this is 2006 the way this team plays.
It was a wild pitch!
Nolie is a good ole fart..he’s been around along time and I hope he’s around alot longer. You just got to understand his humor. He is a great fan.
July 1st, 20123:12 pm
Only- Even when McCann is on the bench. LOL
