Wonderful, wonderful song choice. Great song and extremely underrated band… thanks for this choice.
if he meant sophrology, its a series of mental exercises that supposedly reduce stress. and relaxes you.. studied it a bit when working on my masters. If that ain’t what he meant then I got no clue either

Ithink he said he is lacking funtional brainwaves
Stop obsessing over every thing he flippin’ posts, grow up, get a life!

sounded meaner than that though, didn’t it??
Venters needs to “do a Jurrjens” and be sent down to the minors to get his game back.
What if it means something good? Like maybe VJ was noting that Nick was an exceptional dancer

July 1st, 201211:21 pm
Jimmy got game already
July 1st, 201211:22 pm
Venters is done. You don’t go to the minors to learn to throw 97 again.
July 1st, 201211:23 pm
If they were going to add a “round” add a round, not a 1-game playoff. That’s not a “round”!
This. That. And The Other. Who really thought that this setup made any sense???
July 1st, 201211:24 pm
where is this evidence f 97?
you just blurt stuff out and say it’s a fact don’t you
July 1st, 201211:26 pm
Jonny’s control is the issue. And it is a big problem at the major league level.
July 1st, 201211:28 pm
I watched them play all last year and the only evidence I have is after every pitch I look to see the mph differential. Thats all I have. I know you don’t agree with it and thats fine. It really is but he threw harder last year.
July 1st, 201211:29 pm
Even talented pitchers like Venters get their mechanics, confidence or whatever it may be out of whack. It’ll be important for the Bravos later in the season, especially if they make the playoffs, to bring in a guy they can count on… hopefully for Venters in the low pressure environment of the minors it will help him get his game sorted.
TOBF – the same people that thought home field for the WS should be decided by a vote that allowed Melky to be a starter!!!

Jonny Venter’ss avg fastball velocity :
avg sinker velocity:
avg slider velocity
his velocity is down about 1 mph, I reckon it’s due to mechanics or soreness or something, but it isn’t some drastic velocity change we should all be concerned about

Greinke/ Hudson/ Hanson/ Sheets/ Jurrjens
My rotation prediction come Aug 1.
whats his name?

I felt that was the best post I have ever made, and I am made even more sure of that position if people thought that my self-invented words had any possibility of being accepted in anything other than the SAT Books from which I teach the 2400 seeking children of Rancho Palos Verdes…

When it comes to useless additions to the blog, I like to think that I have done more than my fair share over the past 5 years
And with that, I am off to prepare for a couple of relatively full days of work for a slacker like me before what will be a rare complete day off on Wednesday…
July 1st, 201211:59 pm
Meant to put this stat in blog earlier today:
Strasburg is 2-3 with a 4.26 ERA in five starts against the Braves, and 13-4 with a 2.43 ERA in 28 starts vs. everyone else.
July 2nd, 201212:00 am
Take care, VJ
July 2nd, 201212:01 am
That’s an encouraging stat, DOB!
July 2nd, 201212:04 am
Nolie, that is the word that came up.
July 2nd, 201212:06 am
Have a good night, VJ.
July 2nd, 201212:08 am
I’d love to know what word. For some silly reason I feel like I’m in the middle of a Stevie Nicks song, and I’m so not her! I love some of her songs, though!
July 2nd, 201212:12 am
Not sure about y’all but I’m not falling for Ben Sheets as the missing rotation piece. Not one bit. The Braves don’t have one pitcher on the current roster that is a bona fide #1 rotation starter. Sheets, while I don’t mind the signing as say a #5 starter, certainly isn’t a #1 type any more. I’m not buying into it. You shouldn’t either.
July 2nd, 201212:14 am
he hasn’t been picked up to be a #1, he’s been picked up as a low risk/high reward piece of the puzzle, by no means are the Braves done acquiring starters
July 2nd, 201212:16 am
I don’t think anyone is “buying into” Sheets as #1, Dadgum! That’s not what anyone hopes he will do. I’d be thrilled if he can be #4!
And if anyone on this blog has something they want to say to me, open your pie hole and say it!!@
July 2nd, 201212:18 am
Oh yeah, the summer college wood bat games were around Lexington and Thomasville, NC this weekend. Awesome. Got some great que at Lexington BBQ again. Their slaw is awesome too. Owner says he uses the same vinegar based ingredients for seasoning the slaw as he does the pork. Why not. Always worth the stop if you are trekking up 85. Solid.
An outing like Hudson had today, in what I consider a pretty big game, had to widen the eyes of the Braves that a true ace type guy is much needed. I think Tommy can be that guy in some time, but he isn’t that right now. To hang with those Nats they do need a Greinke type. Maybe he isn’t Verlander, but you put him with what we have and he’s close to it, imo.
July 2nd, 201212:20 am
MIBravesFan, pie hole wide open … what’s up?
July 2nd, 201212:22 am
don’t forget to go vote for Chipper for the ASG!!
July 2nd, 201212:24 am
Oh…. Well not what Wren is saying about it. Says he hopes this is what the rotation needs. If he progresses from Mississippi that is. Wren is projecting him into the rotation within 3 weeks. Hey, I ain’t making it up. Frankly I just heard about the signing and was reading what was posted about the signing. Wren seemed content that Sheets was the missing piece we needed.
July 2nd, 201212:25 am
CTB – no one is Verlander, and the Braves can’t have him! Maybe Zach G will work out for the Braves, that would be good. Just being cranky, CTB! Take care!
July 2nd, 201212:26 am
IMO, Sheets would be better than Mike Minor in the rotation.
July 2nd, 201212:29 am
Voting for Chipper both early and often and non-stop is not only legal, it’s fair and it’s the right thing to do! Just IMO!
July 2nd, 201212:30 am
Trey , I agree Sheets would be a great 4-5 slot guy if he can progress through a couple of weeks in Pearl. Can’t imagine a total resurrection for him but a great pick up.
July 2nd, 201212:33 am
according to mlb trade rumors , and DOB, Braves are in on most of the top arms available…. so I see nothing that says FW is content with Sheets
July 2nd, 201212:48 am
Nick, I don’t either. I just think he will be good to replace Minor with, then we can get another top pitcher, get rid of Delgado and throw another pitcher in there.
July 2nd, 201212:50 am
“I was so much older then, I’m younger than that now” – does anyone write lyrics that now? I love U2 and I love Bruce, and I’m not sure anyone writes lyrics like that now http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4UcaLHaabY
July 2nd, 201212:53 am
I see now reason to “get rid of “Delgado, he’s pitched pretty darn well for a 22 yr ld
July 2nd, 20121:19 am
Nick – sorry I’m late with this. My late mom’s favorite song by her favorite singer – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qoymGCDYzU
July 2nd, 20121:22 am
He has his good days, Nick, but if we do get someone better, if the scuttlebutt is true, then I see no problem of replacing him.
July 2nd, 20121:23 am
Just my two cents.
July 2nd, 20121:29 am
Thanks, Trey, for your service to our country and for contributions to the blog!
July 2nd, 20121:35 am
I look God awful, don’t I? I’m misinterpreted and look like someone I’m so not. But that’s funny. Because that’s the point. But not in jeffrey d’s way. Entirely different point/way.
July 2nd, 20121:37 am
July 2nd, 20121:42 am
Thank you, MIBravesFan.
July 2nd, 20121:52 am
Trey – I’m not sure if you mean for 1:29 or 1:37. 1:37 was worth a lot more than 1:29.
July 2nd, 20121:54 am
The Braves love scrapheap reclamation projects.
July 2nd, 20121:58 am
I never know when to shut up do I?! Trey’s last word was a really nice word, and I had to go and ask a question, and open the floor up!
Waffle House or Bust
July 2nd, 20122:02 am
nolie – I might not be a “baseball expert” but you have to admit I predicted this series right. Check my post on Friday before game one. I nailed it and this only makes you guys hate me more. Ha!
Sorry if I know this manager and team better than 99% of you on this blog. Wake up people!
July 2nd, 20122:18 am
I’ve loved this song since I heard way back in the 70s – some of you are going to just so not like it, but “yada, yada, yada” – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjT2xhMnzzE
July 2nd, 20123:57 am
ooooooo, you looked at the pitching matchup and probably though” Minor and Delgado will win and Hudson will pull one out for us”
making predictions doesn’t make you an expert on anything, it makes you lucky.
July 2nd, 20124:01 am
Hello everyone! Not a bad signing for Ben Sheets. Hope it works well. Waffle you claim to know 99% more than us. How about 99% BS……..Dude you do nothing but complain , and you complain about just every thing……. I think your Waffles just dried up dude…..
July 2nd, 20124:24 am
All, have a good one, Braves will get the Cubs in the next series. Let’s hope Wren, has some thing going…… Like a possible trade with Cubs…..”Go!!!!!Braves!!!!!” You wont see me on much! The 4th of July is coming up. All Be cool, and Peace my friends……

Mornin’ David O’Brien
Upon getting in late / early and taking a large sample size of many of the comments on the blog, I was a little surprised to see the lack of folks commenting on your question. Of course, spotting the Nationals an early four run lead will put a damper on much congenial, in-game conversation.
At any rate, my initial reaction to your question was to answer, “No. Even if he plays in every remaining game of the season, (84, for a total of 109), he won’t have enough time to amass the heavy stats needed to oust Harper or the Miley kid from Arizona with his 9-4 record and sub 3.00 ERA”.
Then I stopped myself, suddenly reminded of our own Bob Horner and the ROY voting in 1978.
Horner finished first ahead of Padre Ozzie Smith, who played in 159 games that year and hit .258 with a .311 OBP and 43 RBI. Smith also stole 40 bases in a solid rookie season.
But it was Horner who swayed the vote in only 89 games as he hit .266 / 23 / 63 with a .313 OBP while slugging .539. In addition, he led all NL third basemen in home runs, (Mike Schmidt–who’d averaged 37 home runs the previous four seasons–had an off year with 21). Another plus –in the minds of the voters–might have been his straight jump to the majors after leaving Arizona State.
At any rate, it’ll be interesting to see what Simmons does with the bat during one more swing around the league as the pitchers begin swapping information. And–as recently as 2010, Buster Posey– won NL ROY honors while playing in just 108 games. Maybe the secret is to come along just late enough so your name is fresh in the minds of the voters, yet early enough to not be considered a flash-in-the-pan.
July 2nd, 20124:40 am
That’s some kind of good tune; one I hadn’t heard in years. Harold Melvin And The Blue Notes sure baked a groove with that one.
July 2nd, 20124:57 am
Thinking of Chipper and his stats: I hope he can finish his career with that OBP sitting above .400.

2) Save on Ben Sheets. Free two day shipping at Amazon.
Anyway, here’s some 2010 info on that cheap ho…
The day it was announced that Stephen Strasburg will probably need Tommy John surgery, Ben Sheets visited the A’s clubhouse and said, “I wish that’s all I had.”
Sheets, 32, actually had three procedures performed during his Aug. 9 surgery. Along with the Tommy John surgery – in which a tendon from his hamstring was inserted into his elbow to reconstruct the ulnar collateral ligament – he also had had the flexor and pronator tendons in his elbow repaired.

GCL – ORLANDO
STANKEES best the BRAVES 9-8 in a 20 hit slug-fest with eight errors. Not the cleanest game ever played.
Six pitchers were used.
RHRP PETER MOYLAN started and went one inning without a sniff of a hit, and one SO.
RHRP CLINT WRIGHT followed with a pristine inning of work and one ‘K’.
But RHSP ROBERTO ‘Star’ ESTRELLA [L 0-1, 15.43 ERA] was savaged in his second start of the season for six earned in 1.2 IP. Ugh.
RHRP ELVIN GARCIA [4.05 ERA] was much improved over his predecessor, but still was dented for two earned in 2.1 IP.
RHRP MADRIGAL AVENDANO [4.50 ERA] 2.0 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 SO.
Rookie RHRP BRANDON ROHDE [2.08 ERA] 1.0 IP, pristine, 2 SO.

LF JOEY MENSES [.237 BA] 1-5, 2 R, 1 RBI , 1 SO.
Rookie DH JACKSON LAUMANN [.275 BA] 1-3, 1 SO.

Hey, Ed Goode, you’ve got that crummy government building-looking ballpark in DC with not enough parking because the dopes that run things in your fair city wanted to cram everyone onto the Metro – the nation’s failing apart, breaking down subway system. Ain’t it fun after a game being herded like cattle into the dank bowels of the city and shoved into Metro cars like sardines? Ain’t it wonderful smelling all those other sweaty bodies that your packed against for 30-minute ride to the burbs – that is, if there aren’t any delays?
Real treat, huh?
Sorry, Ed. I just had to get that off my chest.
July 2nd, 20129:00 am
…and we start to get an inkling of Heyward and Freeman together for the coming years. They’ll be worth FA contracts or long extensions, when it comes time.
(With the usual caveats, yada yada yada.)
July 2nd, 20129:02 am
Dan Uggla since July 5, 2011 (you know, after his massive and unprecedented struggles ended)
in 152 games
.267/.363 (batting avg./obp) with 104 runs scored, 26 Doubles, 35 HR, 101 RBI 89 BB and 171 SO
Not too bad.
July 2nd, 20129:03 am
What happens if they don’t win 5 of 7? They get thrown out of the league and have to go home for the rest of the season?
