When Jason Heyward gunned down Rick Ankiel at second base Friday night it was his career-high sixth outfield assist of the season and his third in nine games. He nailed Jason Kubel at the plate to save Jair Jurrjens a run on Thursday night, and nabbed Mark Teixeira at home to save Tim Hudson a run at Yankee Stadium on June 19.
Heyward’s previous career-high was five assists during his standout 2010 rookie season.
“It’s something that’s been a part of my game and I want to try to keep improving on it at this level,” Heyward said. “I’m just trying to grow in the game and keep helping out the pitchers.”

Uggla struck out looking. 3 times Thursday. 1 time today. Glad he sat out and made some adjustments. Is Chipper playing? No big deal with the division leader here. No reason to step up and play and lead. Gotta protect that bruise. Don’t you throw out bruised fruit? What if he said, “We need a win and I am going to play.” Hahahahahaha!

2 runs should be enough for Strausburgh against these posers. Pretty sad that Minor gives up a run on a base hit by their pitcher. A great example on how a team on paper doesn’t mean jack crap. On paper, everyone was raving about the Braves pitching staff, how is that turning out? Yep, the Braves are a joke. Another walk and another hit, I wonder how many runs this loser will give up this inning. Man the Braves have one pathetic ass team.

Once again our idiot coach may cost us another game. 1st and 2nd with no outs in the first. Get a clue Freddy! Its called small ball!!! It how this game used to be played all the time! You bunt the freakin runners over and a ground ball or sac fly gets you A RUN! What, do you think were gonna light Strasburg up moron! NO!!! Gets as many runs as you can!!! I cant belive Frank Wren pays this guy. He shouldnt even be coaching high scool ball cuz at least high school coaches know how to play the game!! End of the 3rd. Braves up 3-2 and it should be 4-2. Had a chance to tie the game last night but know. This guy sucks and needs to go!!!!!

At least 10 to 15 instances where Braves could have moved runners up and we don’t. Wish i knew how many games we’ve blown cuz of this stupid coach. At least 10 I’d say. We’re onna wish we had that extra run later in thisgame I know it.

I’m sure BravefaninWisc will come around again now. And for the morons that were trying to argue a few days ago that Beachy was an average pitcher because his record was only around .500, I guess Minor is great today, right? 4 runs in 5+ innings, but in line for the win…

The man has a cannon — no doubt there! He’s also having a good year at the plate. After that humiliating effort on the Bryce Harper single stretched to a double, Heyward apparently saw the light and has been on a tear ever since.
Also, many hear have made it a habit to question Fredi Gonzalez, but absolutely nothing Fredi’s done this season is even half as questionable as the decision that Nationals’ manager Davy Johnson did when he decided to take out Steven Strausburg after only three innings.
The news reporters are making it sound like a “weather-related” decision. But, the Braves’ telecast clearly showed Strausberg in the Nats’ dugout visibly shocked and disturbed about getting yanked!
Yes, it was a record heat wave in Atlanta today (take heart Atlanta, as living here in east New Mexico as I am it is also setting heat records here also — been over 100 degrees for seven straight days here!). Game time temps reached 106, which beat a 1980’s record by a degree. But, Minor was able to go far enough to earn the victory. Strausburg should have been able to go longer than three innings as his pitch count was manageable. He had only pitched 67 pitches, with 36 of them being strikes.

@Angel Wings – it was an overall good performance by the braves…minor pitched “ok” but not too encouraging, although he did get a key double play with the bases loaded that pretty much saved the braves. simmons, bourn,prado,j-hey and freeman all looked good. Uggla looks like he is beginning to turn things around. He actually made contact on multiple pitches today, and also hit an RBI double. francisco was solid as well.
As for the bullpen, they all did from average to good

AW,
To answer your question, the Braves played a solid game today in brutal conditions. But, had not the Braves telecast showed Strausburg in their dugout with his glove on and clearly protesting his removal from the game to his pitching coach, I might have believed Strausburg got heat exhaustion.
But, looking at his shock and visible protests, I have to believe it was a convenient excuse. What was the reason? I don’t know. What I do know is that the Braves feasted on the Nats’ relievers when Strausburg may well have settled down from the three-run third inning.
Regardless, I’m not complaining about Johnson’s move! Though I am sure many Nats fans are posing the same questions I have!

Love the lineup, DOB. With Heyward hitting for power (check his ISO), it is nice to see him get some time at number 3. With Chipper behind him, he may see some fastballs. I know Ross is there to catch Hudson, but it is good for McCann to have a day off after catching in that furnace yesterday.

BTW, Strasburg took three separate IV saline drips yesterday and complained of dizziness, a sure sign that he was suffering from heat exhaustion.
