Moylan scoreless in first rehab game action since surgery

Braves veteran reliever Peter Moylan took an important step in his recovery from right shoulder surgery on Saturday morning, pitching an inning for the Gulf Coast League Braves.

He recorded one strikeout, coaxed two groundouts and needed only seven pitches to get through a scoreless inning in his first game action since October surgery. His fastball was clocked at 89-90 mph.

Moylan likely won’t be at full strength until the end of July at the earliest, but if he keeps progressing, he could be an arm the Braves turn to for the stretch run.

“We’ve got to just wait and see how the progression goes before we get ready to pencil him in anywhere,” Braves assistant general manager Bruce Manno said.

“We’ve just got to be patient with it because it’s going to take some time. But the main thing is he feels great.”

Moylan has undergone three major surgeries in the past five years, including elbow ligament transplant surgery in 2008. He missed most of last season after surgery for a bulging disc before returning in September. He made only six appearances before his shoulder flared up, and he was diagnosed with a torn labrum and rotator cuff. He underwent surgery on Oct. 3.

Get on back Moylan, we need you! Should we look into bringing Horacio back?

Hey Peter ” You need to call Mazzone and get his advice before you hurt your arm again.

It’s been so long since I’ve seen Peter that I had forgotten about him. He must be 60 years old by now.

DOB: Whatever happened to Brett Butts? He supposedly had TJ surgery but it has been more than 18 months and no news.

Love the news about Moylan. He is not just a good RH arm, but a great guy in the clubhouse, apparently. Durbin’s days in ATL may be numbered.

Found my own answer. Bret Butts is now Brett Cammons. Cammons is getting lit up on his return from TJ surgery. Has been back and forth at MS and Lynchburg. Guess some guys have problems coming back from TJ.

Doubt Durbin’s days would be numbered if Moylan is able to come back. Durbin, after a rough first 3 weeks, is pitching better than Medlen, Venters, Martinez, and Anthony V. Only Kimbrel and maybel O’ Flaherty are doing better. Durbin will be staying the full year.

DOB: Why hasn’t Sims pitched yet in the GCL? Hopefully, not injured already.

I really like Moylan. Our pen will be fine, and his experience and presence would be huge. The BP is so important. Like Yogi once said, “If you ain’t got a bullpen, you aint’ got nothin’.” Ours has been a little inconsistent, but ready to produce like 2011 the second half. Just like starters, you can never have enough good arms in the pen. Go Braves!!!!

He has struggled since, but had a nice outing last night and picked up the win in relief for the M-Braves.
